Sokka the 35th - [Action/Written]

[It had been an unusually quiet day at the Walton Avatar house. Last night they had all exchanged their good nights. This morning they had all had breakfast together. But when dinner came around, one of their number was conspicuously absent. Electing himself to go yell at their time-dislocated buddy to come and eat. He didn't suspect anything, after all. Roku's staff was sitting off in a corner from when he came in earlier. But when Sokka knocked on the door and received no answer, he proceeded to push the door open...

And saw a sight he had seen before. An empty room. Back to the way it was when they first moved in, save for the paint on the walls. With a sigh, Sokka steps aside so Katara can see. This... this isn't going to be easy.

Hours later, Sokka will leave a message on the journals about it, opting to stick with writing to make things easier.]

Hey everyone. It looks like Roku lucked out and went home. Since he didn't get a chance to say it himself, thanks to everyone who was there for his birthday and stuff. You don't have to worry about him, though. He's got a big important future and is going to live to be an old man with kids. He'll even have statues in his honor. So yeah. Still gonna miss him though.

[Katara peers over Sokka's shoulder into Roku's empty room. Her hands clench into fists at her sides.]

...oh.

[Sokka glances back at Katara as he leans in the frame of the door. He doesn't know what to even say. This isn't like Zuko or Aang. They would see them again.]

... they won't stop, will they?

[Action]

[markofthebrave]

[Her voice is low.] Not until we all go home. Where we belong.

[And then she turns and hugs Sokka for a fierce moment - You're next, I know it. - and then turns and stalks away towards her room.

Her door slams shut. Several minutes later, and there's the sound of something heavy hitting the wall.]

[Action]

[He watches her walk away wordlessly, not comprehending what exactly it is she's thinking. It's not too far away from what he's thinking, though. That soon it's going to be just him, alone in Luceti. He collapses into one of the chairs at the table and stares up at the ceiling.

... at least he knew Roku had a good life to go back to. His thoughts are interrupted when he hears something breaking. For a moment, he takes a step towards her door. But then... changes his mind. He grabs his sword scabbard sitting beside the door, slings it over his shoulder, and leaves the house.]

[Sokka sounds worn out, like he's just been swinging his sword at things for the last two hours. Which is exactly what he's been doing.]

I'll be fine. [It's Katara he's worried about.]

[He sighs.] ... about how you'd expect.

[Sokka tries and fails to cover up how exhausted he currently sounds.]

... you don't have to, Mayoi. [This isn't really the same. After all, Roku has a good life to go back to.]

[pause.] You all alright? It's always too sudden, I suppose.

Yeah, he was. [Sokka even sort of faced that whole resenting him for not stopping Sozin when he had the chance.]

I'm fine, though. Thanks. [He says this not very convincingly. But mostly he just sounds exhausted.]
