[It had been an unusually quiet day at the ~~Walton~~ Avatar house. Last night they had all exchanged their good nights. This morning they had all had breakfast together. But when dinner came around, one of their number was conspicuously absent. Electing himself to go yell at their time-dislocated buddy to come and eat. He didn't suspect anything, after all. Roku's staff was sitting off in a corner from when he came in earlier. But when Sokka knocked on the door and received no answer, he proceeded to push the door open...

And saw a sight he had seen before. An empty room. Back to the way it was when they first moved in, save for the paint on the walls. With a sigh, Sokka steps aside so Katara can see. This... this isn't going to be easy.

Hours later, Sokka will leave a message on the journals about it, opting to stick with writing to make things easier.]

Hey everyone. It looks like Roku lucked out and went home. Since he didn't get a chance to say it himself, thanks to everyone who was there for his birthday and stuff. You don't have to worry about him, though. He's got a big important future and is going to live to be an old man with kids. He'll even have statues in his honor. So yeah. ~~Still gonna miss him though.~~

[He blinks at her reaction, a little startled at her yelling.]

I... I do that all the time. [Well. For the last few months. Ever since Jet made fun of him for climbing down with a ladder.]

That isn't safe! You could hurt yourself like that.

It's fine Mayoi. Knowing how to safely land from high places comes in handy when fighting.

This isn't a battle Sokka, this is me bringing you muffins to help cheer you up like you helped me!

Well uh... do you want me to do it again?

...No. Just please don't do that again. It's really dangerous.

Alright, alright. I won't. [He won't do it again... when you can see him. He heads over to the small porch in front of the house and sits on the edge, facing west towards the sunset.]

[She'll follow him, sitting by him and taking her backpack off her shoulders.] I hope you like raspberry ones. [She reaches into the backpack and takes out the carton.] We should make this a ritual for when we have to say goodbye to people we knew. [Mayoi giggles, but it feels a little awkward. She never met Roku after all.]

[He manages a weak smile at that.] It'd be nice if it didn't have to become a ritual, though.

Aren't you always telling me how you want us all to go back to our worlds? [Mayoi opens up the carton and takes a muffin out, putting down the carton in between her and Sokka.] Not that I want this to become a frequent ritual either.

[Sokka takes a muffin out, but he doesn't eat it and just rotates it in his hands.] Yeah, I do. Just... not like this. Roku won't even remember us. Or any of the things we told him about.

[she looks at her muffin in silence for a moment]

Even then, isn't it better that he's home? You'll miss him, that's a fact, but at least he doesn't need to be stuck here anymore.

Yeah, yeah. I know. [His gaze lingers on the dwindling sunset.] He really does have a good life he's going back to. He becomes world famous and gets the girl of his dreams.

Sounds like the life of a famous movie star. [she shrugs a little.] Going through times of gain and loss are always hard, but you should treasure the memories you had of him when he was around. Like [...] like the taste of a muffin before you swallow it.

[yeah sokka, she can do muffin analogies too.]

[Sokka snerks at that last statement.] It's always the muffins, isn't it?

In my defense, you started it first. Accept your responsibility for swaying an impressionable young girl into thinking about muffins in such a strange way.

Clearly we're going to have to just take muffins out of your diet if you you're not capable of seeing them merely as a snack.

Sorry, onii-chan. I'll be a good girl for now on and not eat too many muffins. I like cupcakes better anyway!

[...] Uh. Mayoi? What does onii-chan mean?

Big brother. [she takes a bite out of the muffin and swallows.] Now eat your muffin.

[He gives her a weird look. Good thing she's joking. She's joking right? Of course she is. He eats his muffin.]

[she sees your look Sokka. yeah she's joking, but that look just makes her want to keep going with it]

What's wrong? You look a little strange.

[Well Sokka can never be too sure about these things!]

Not even my own little sister talks to me like that.

[At least not with Mayoi]

Don't worry, I'm not trying to take her place. I wouldn't want you as a brother anyway!

[Ah! Well that's a relief.] Well of course not. You'd hate having to do my laundry.
