Sokka the 48th -- [Voice/Action]

[After being sent home in his own bed, Sokka had slept in a bit, finally had some real food and then went to see Suki. By now, he figures he should check to see how things went. Thus, he has a message to leave.]

Well that was a lousy week. How's everyone else doing? Did I miss anything?

Oh and uh. I think I might have to take the week off from the smithy. Maybe longer. That goes for training too.

[... yeah, that should do. He'll hang around town acting just a bit odd. For instance, very gently and very slowly opening the doors to shops. He doesn't bother going to the smithy. He's mainly just trying to stave off boredom due to the fact he really can't do much of anything now. Stupid Malnosso.]

[... what is this, Buffy? Sitting next to him? Sharing stories? He didn't realize this was bonding time.]

Malnosso experimentation. And why wouldn't I be the type? I could slay vampires, if I had to.

[Well, Sokka? She's channeling that part of her that kicks into high gear during the one-on-ones with new Slayers. The near counseling levels of conversation when she helps them cope with the sudden onset of super strength--not to mention the dreams, the expectations, the danger. Unintentionally, she's treating him like one of her girls.]

Sure, you could slay them...but you couldn't be a vampire slayer. In my world? Slayers are only ever girls. One girl, chosen to fight against the vampires and the demons. But--that's not the important thing. You haven't--y'know--accidentally hurt anyone, have you?

[Sokka is utterly chill with this, because he knows it's temporary. Mostly he's just bored.]

Why do they only get to be girls? Come on, that's not fair. [Ignoring the question there. He hurt Ami just helping her up. ~~And he hurt a lot of guards, but that wasn't an accident.~~]

They only get to be girls 'cause the old men who first created the Slayer line mistakenly figured that teenage girls--even with ridiculous amounts of power hidden in them--would be easier to control. To handle and to wield. So the Slayer line's always been girls only.

... well that's pretty stupid. [For multiple reasons.]

Yeah, I tried to put in some kind of formal complaint but I think the Council that was in charge really only understood loud, shouty, British insults. They're kind of a really wiggy group.

[She shrugs, it's not a big deal. They don't even really exist anymore.] So how much extra strength are we talking here? I know you mentioned the doors, but...

You know those drones? I hit one with a sword. One of the swords the guards had. I got it embedded in its side and was left with only the hilt.

[So he's thinking preeeeetty strong, yeah.] And I accidentally through one of those guards a couple dozen feet too. That was kind of cool.

It's a rush, isn't it?

[Strange how she can say that with sympathy and not enthusiasm.]

You know, if I could control it and thought it would stay? I'd be great with that. But sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. So it's basically just annoying.

You can't control it at all?

Not in the slightest. Hence the broken doors. [And him trying to punch a hole in a wall and just getting a bloodied hand.]

Yeah, you've clearly got the suckier deal. [A huff of breath, then:] At least it'll probably wear off, right?

Week... two weeks. Probably. That's the usual length of time, right?

Not to...freak you out, or anything? But the last time I was kidnapped, the effects didn't--ah--wear off until a couple of months after the fact.

[... he just gives her a look.]

You're a pro at this whole confidence building thing, huh?

I like to call it a finely honed lack of skill. Anyway, my last kidnapping? I came back sans any strength at all. The complete opposite. Kinda.

So. What if for those months you lost your powers, they decided to give them to me.

Well--huh, you don't happen to be having any freaky-deaky vampire-themed nightmares, are you?

Uh. My nightmares tend to be pretty freaky to begin with.

But vampireless, at least? [She hopes for your sake, Sokka.]

Well... last night I dreamed I was at home. And then Momo - our lemur, was eating fruit. And then the fruit started attacking him. So Appa showed up and yelled at them until they went away. But then it turned out it wasn't Appa, I was the one doing the yelling. So Momo and I had to start fighting off the fruit, but then they started biting me in the neck. I was ripping them off... and then this crazy lady who was kind of... wild started yelling at me. I tried to ignore her and told her I had to get to the store to get some rice.

But when I got to the store, Aku was destroying the store. So I started fighting him with Jack... or maybe it was Momo, I can't really remember. Then Flameybrows - uhh, that's what we called Aku, got mad and changed forms into this... angry bearded guy. He was saying all this stuff about the Malnosso, then I started saying all this weird stuff about how he should try speaking slang. Which was weird, because sure I like slang, but I was kind of just making up stupid words. And then I killed him. With a scythe, not my sword. That was weird. And then Katara showed up and was yelling at me for washing my clothes in the dishwasher. And then...

[Feel free to stop him at anytime.]

[She was about to ask him if he meant Jack Sparrow when--Bearded angry men? A scythe? Her eyes narrow and her face contorts into a kind of worrying concern. It had been a joke, before. But this?

Buffy stands, reaching out and settling her palm lightly on Sokka's shoulder.] What colour was the scythe? [Her voice is quiet, but insistent. Not quite the happy-go-snarky tone the girl normally sports.] Was it red? Was it like--like the colour of my wings?

[He gives her a weird look, glancing in her direction.]

Uh yeah, I think it was red. At least at first. When Katara was yelling at me, it was a giant spoon.

Sokka, I--[she frowns some more.] This question is gonna be the total definition of indelicate, but...are you sure you're not actually a member of the fairer sex?

What!? Yes! Of course I'm sure! Look, sure, maybe I dressed as a female warrior once, but that was the only way Suki would-- errr.... [Dammit Sokka, stop your mouth from running!] Forget I just said that.
