Sokka the 48th -- [Voice/Action]

[After being sent home in his own bed, Sokka had slept in a bit, finally had some real food and then went to see Suki. By now, he figures he should check to see how things went. Thus, he has a message to leave.]

Well that was a lousy week. How's everyone else doing? Did I miss anything?

Oh and uh. I think I might have to take the week off from the smithy. Maybe longer. That goes for training too.

[... yeah, that should do. He'll hang around town acting just a bit odd. For instance, very gently and very slowly opening the doors to shops. He doesn't bother going to the smithy. He's mainly just trying to stave off boredom due to the fact he really can't do much of anything now. Stupid Malnosso.]

Uhm--[she considers.] How about...that tree?

[She points out a solid trunk in the distance--still within the crossbow's range, but perhaps only just.] Not the too closer ones either side of it but...that one. I can go mark it for you, if you'd prefer?

[She's already tugging at her scarf.]

That tree? [He squints at it. That's kind of far. Well, okay, there's nobody nearby he could accidentally hit.]

If it was my boomerang, I could manage. Probably. [If you mean THAT one, anyway.]

Of course you could manage with your boomerang. You've learned your boomerang. But you haven't learned this.

Right, right. Fine.

[He loads the crossbow, slowly and carefully so as not to break it and then takes aim. Okay, that tree. Probably well out of his range. Well, he gives it a good solid try. A moment later he lets the bolt fly loose.]

[... and there it goes. Hitting the tree dead center. Did it? He blinks. Yes, yes it did.]

... lucky shot. Probably.

Another ten bucks says that...if you had been standing there? You could have caught that bolt before it even hit the bark. Not that I'm too interested in testing that one out, of course.

... yeah, so uh, do you want those bucks skinned first?

[Now it's her turn to look more than a little wigged.]

Well, I mean, I'm not going to prepare the meat for you. But I can get the skin off first. You could make some good winter clothes with it.

I didn't say anything about meat. Who said anything about meat?

Wait, you want the bucks alive? I'm not sure that will be easy to pull off...

N-no, oh--Sokka. I didn't mean bucks like the animal. I mean bucks like...like moolah. Cash? Money? Money-which-doesn't-exist-here but the betting terms kinda just roll off the tongue.

... oh, right. Yeah. Nevermind. [That does a lot to ease his mind on what exactly Buffy would need all that meat for.]

Okay, so what does this all prove?

It proves that--for some reason--you now have some kind of innate sense of a weapon you weren't even sure you could aim too well. There's talent and then there's skill and both are pretty much integral. But--the inborn talent thing? That's a total Slayer trademark.

[... well that's peachy.]

Okay, so let's just say I happen to be the first guy Slayer ever. What now? Are we going to hang out at nights and kill vampires?

[A slight shrug.] Probably not. There are vampires here, but they're not exactly the stakeable sort. But I guess I should probably bring you to Giles' attention before this whole thing...wears off.

Giles? Who's he? And why does he... or she have to know?

He's..a Watcher. Ex-Watcher. He knows about Slayers and...stuff.

Let me guess: You don't.

No, I do. I'm one of the longest lasting ones, after all. Just...this is a totally new kinda precedent.

If this is a Slayer thing? Then it's kind of a big deal.

Right, so you say. But what if I decide I don't care? I mean, you said there's no vampires for us to go killing. So why even bother? It's not like I'll be a Slayer forever.

It's a big deal 'cause--well, Sokka? It shows just what kinda horror the Malnosso are capable of.
