Sokka the 48th -- [Voice/Action]

[After being sent home in his own bed, Sokka had slept in a bit, finally had some real food and then went to see Suki. By now, he figures he should check to see how things went. Thus, he has a message to leave.]

Well that was a lousy week. How's everyone else doing? Did I miss anything?

Oh and uh. I think I might have to take the week off from the smithy. Maybe longer. That goes for training too.

[... yeah, that should do. He'll hang around town acting just a bit odd. For instance, very gently and very slowly opening the doors to shops. He doesn't bother going to the smithy. He's mainly just trying to stave off boredom due to the fact he really can't do much of anything now. Stupid Malnosso.]

Rachel. [She guesses, from what Xander and Giles have told her. Buffy has never met the girl, but she sounds like someone Buffy wouldn't want to meet either. But mentioning Derek reminds her of how strangely she can feel even Derek's presence, though he's not one of her kind of vampire. But Spike is.]

Look, have you been around community building numero two, today? Like did you even maybe walk past it at all?

[No, it wasn't Rachel... but he's distracted by the question.]

No, it's kind of out of the way. Look, what's with all these questions? Do you think I'm actually a Slayer now? Because if it involves waking up as a girl in a few days? I'm not interested.

I said only girls could become Slayers, not...all Slayers become girls but--I don't know. Maybe it's nothing. Or maybe the Malnosso learned something no one's learned before when they pilfered my powers way back in January.

Or it could all be a coincidence! It's no big deal. [He hands the stake back.] Look, if I start speaking in weird slang and start serving alcohol, I'll let you know.

Okay--seriously? Those things have nothing to do with the Slayer thing. Those things are totally me.

So I don't have to worry about that. See? I'm relieved already. [See? He's totally okay with this.]

I don't think I have the barmaid figure.

And I do? [Then, figuring Sokka to be on the too-young side:]...Don't answer that.

[Mostly he was point out that, again, he is not a woman. Buffy seems to have difficulty remembering it. At this point he stands up.]

Anyway, I think you're too worried about this Slayer thing. Unless there's some other special powers you think I should have, besides strength, dreams and knowing how to use weapons - which by the way, I already knew how to do.

Even crossbows? 'Cause they can apparently be a little tricky.

[No, this isn't a serious question. This is the kind of question one asks in a slightly superfluous way to please get her mind off the possibility.]

Crossbows... yeah, I can load them. It's the aiming them I'm not so good at.

[Bows... guns. He just can't get the hang of them.]

Ten bucks says you could probably go home tonight and shoot one near perfect. Or not. Honestly? I hope the not option is the right one. For all our sakes.

Alright, you're on. There's some in the smithy. If I can manage to shoot it without the thing collapsing in my hands, then maybe there's something to that claim.

[He just doesn't know what he'll do with all that buck meat if he wins.]

So..right now? The smithy's just there, after all.

[On the other hand, if she wins, what will she do when Sokka leaves ten buck carcasses on her front door?]

[He'll be stomping off now. Just one moment.]

[...Sweetly ask Bones to clean up the mess, of course.

Anyway--she calls after him:] Try not to break any more doors!

[The concern is touching. But he already broke that door.

A minute later, he has a crossbow over his shoulder.]

Okay, find me a target O' Slaying One.

Uhm--[she considers.] How about...that tree?

[She points out a solid trunk in the distance--still within the crossbow's range, but perhaps only just.] Not the too closer ones either side of it but...that one. I can go mark it for you, if you'd prefer?

[She's already tugging at her scarf.]

That tree? [He squints at it. That's kind of far. Well, okay, there's nobody nearby he could accidentally hit.]

If it was my boomerang, I could manage. Probably. [If you mean THAT one, anyway.]

Of course you could manage with your boomerang. You've learned your boomerang. But you haven't learned this.

Right, right. Fine.

[He loads the crossbow, slowly and carefully so as not to break it and then takes aim. Okay, that tree. Probably well out of his range. Well, he gives it a good solid try. A moment later he lets the bolt fly loose.]

[... and there it goes. Hitting the tree dead center. Did it? He blinks. Yes, yes it did.]

... lucky shot. Probably.

Another ten bucks says that...if you had been standing there? You could have caught that bolt before it even hit the bark. Not that I'm too interested in testing that one out, of course.

... yeah, so uh, do you want those bucks skinned first?
