Skills
Skills
Physical
Projectiles - S
There's no weapon Sokka is more skilled with than his boomerang, since he has used it as a weapon since he was just a child. By mentally estimating the trajectory of an enemy's attack, he can aim his weapon to hit opponents he can't even see. His talents carry over to using other projectiles like knives, tomahawks, and similar weapons. It doesn't carry over to bows, crossbows, or guns though.
Sword Fighting - A
A combination of his own experiences, training with Master Piandao and his ongoing studies, Sokka has developed into a master swordsman using the Jian sword. By the time of Black Sun, he had enough skill shear a man's spear, while mid-leap. At the time of his initial training, he had very little in the way of skill, just natural talent and quick reflexes. As a prodigy, he's proved to be a quick learner and quickly incorporated Piandao's teachings, in spite of the short time spent training. He's continuing to study with Okita Souji in Tennen Rishin Style, becoming disciplined in Kenjutsu and Kendo. This training is ongoing since May (2010/Year 3).
Martial Arts - B
Thanks to his brief training by Suki and his own experience dealing with martial arts fighters like Ty Lee, Sokka can usually avoid getting hit and knows enough to turn an unskilled fighter's strength against them. Training in Luceti has made him a better combatant, thanks to his training in Jujutsu with Okita Souji and Akido with Derek Bliss. This training is ongoing since May (2010/Year 3).
Explosives - B
Following Hakoda's example, Sokka has used the advantage of having resources and time in Luceti to keep himself stocked on bombs. Through his father's own lessons, some input from the Mechanist, and his own research and experimentation, he's created an arsenal of bombs to use. He prefers to use smoke bombs, but he has other explosives he uses in times of drafts. Although capable of making them himself, he often requests explosive boomerangs from the Malnosso for drafts.
Acrobatics/Agility - B
Compared to his friends, Sokka is a little more limited in this regard. But his duel with Piandao showed him capable of pulling off more than he would seem capable of in the rush of battle. He has a great sense of balance, can effortlessly pull off cartwheels in combat, and effortlessly jump from one platform to another. During Black Sun, he demonstrated the ability to jump on top of a Komodo Rhino's head, even while weighed down by armor and weapons. His time in Luceti has improved these skills, but he's still quite a bit behind his friends in athletic prowess.
Alchemy - C
With the guidance of Edward Elric and lots and lots of research, Sokka is starting to form an understanding of alchemy. He's able to form basic alchemy circles, but it usually requires time and effort to make a successful one, so he's far from being able to do one quickly on the fly. He's figured out how to transmute mute and he's working on techniques to transmute the components necessary to construct the variety of explosives he likes to keep on him in order to reduce the time necessary to construct them.
Other - B
Sokka's skills with other weapons vary, but he's adept at picking up just about any weapon and being able to use it fairly effectively. This is demonstrated by how quickly he was able to pick up nunchucks and show an extreme proficiency in their use, despite having never used them before.
Filial Magic
Kipinn (Air) - S
Due to how weak it is, Sokka found Kipinn wasn't much use in attacks beyond causing distractions (either by blowing air or throwing his voice), but he has developed a technique of increasing the strength and range of his boomerang. He's working on a way of keeping a gust of wind inside the boomerang's arc that would allow it to carry small objects back to him.
Eferin (Fire) - S
Sokka's affinity from fire was developed from his time in the smithy. He wasn't able to get Eferin's attention until he accidentally drank rum in the forest and started a huge fire as a result. Since then, he's developing the magic as a way to fight firebending, by learning to control an enemy's fire and stop it. He's developed a rather useless trick that involves making his sword appear to be on fire.
Tsinku (Lightning) - A
Sokka was only able to catch Tsinku's interest when he started spouting haikus off to him about his frustration at being ignored. Lightning is tricky to work with and Sokka's attempts to use anything but small sparks from a battery have not ended well. He nearly blew himself up when he channeled his own electricity into a training dummy. Another time, he blew the fuse in a house when he channeled the electricty from an open circuit through his sword.
Hyt (Light) - A
Sokka tried to contact Hyt for a brief time with Xion and din't make any headway. After several months of infrequent attempts, he's finally gained enough mastery to create orbs of light and brief flashes.
Nala (Healing) - F
At first, Sokka could hear Nala plainly. But he ignored herin favor of better spirits. Lately he's been trying to contact her, but her voice is faint. His own frustration at other things has made it hard for him to pay attention, due to a large part that he doesn't really want to be stuck on the sidelines healing people. As a result, he hasn't been able to learn anything significant yet.
Faeren (Earth) - N/A
Sokka has heard her voice, but has yet to make contact.
Sona (Water) - N/A
Sokka often hears her voice on his canoe trips down the river, but hasn't made contact. Waterbending is Katara's thing, not his.
Art
Poetry - A
Sokka has a gift for wordplay, effortlessly being able to come up with haikus off the top of his head, even adding rhyme and rhythm to them in the process.
Music - C
Sokka's music is unrefined, but has potential if ever developed. He has at least some experience with a flute, though he barely knows how to play one. He has a surpisingly good singing voice that is only ever heard in the shower.
Artwork - C
Sokka's art is horrible and barely recognizable for the subject he's depicting. His painting isn't much better. This has yet to dissuade him. Practice with alchemy has at least taught him how to make good use of circles and straight lines.
Sculpting - D
As bad as his art, if not worse. His attempts at carving wood or building something from sand both had horrendous results. He doesn't understand the criticism.
Crafting
Smithing - A
Sokka learned more than just fighting under Piandao's tutelage. As one of the Fire Nation's swordmakers, many of his skills were passed down to Sokka. That same knowledge he later used to forge Appa's armor for the Day of Black Sun. In Luceti, he has refined this knowledge and expanded what he knows to being able to work with various weapons and armor now. His technique has continue to improve and with the help of Leon, he's able to forge 'enchanted weapons' imbued with elemental powers.
Shipbuilding - B
Growing up in the South Pole, Sokka helped work on various boats with his father before he was sent off to war. In the two years that passed, Sokka was the one in charge of keeping their boats in working condition. In Luceti, there is no dried animal skins or whale bone to make boats with, so Sokka has had to learn to work with wood. His results have been effective, although his canoes are not exceptional by any means.
Engineering - B
Sokka has some talent for engineering. He is significantly skilled at this in his own world, which is on the verge of technological revolutions. However what he knows and is capable of doesn't quite compare to what has been accomplished in other worlds. In Luceti, he has been working with what is available to him in attempts to better understand more futuristic technology. With the aid of lots of "How To" books, he's knowledgable enough to make repairs on the usual sorts of electronic devices that are made readily available in Luceti.
Tailoring - D
Stitching clothes back together? That's Katara's job. Of course, Sokka could do it if he had to. It just wouldn't look very good. Or hold up for long.
Survival
Navigation - A
Sokka is a 'master' map reader and navigator, usually being the one his friends rely on to get them where they're going. For him it's part intelligence and part intuition. During their travels, he even had each of their days scheduled out based on how long it would take to travel from their starting point to the rendezvous spot with his father's fleet. One of his true loves is expensive atlases.
Fishing - B
Sokka is a skilled fishermen, his talents being considered 'off the hook' in his own opinion. He is skilled both at angling and at spearfishing, depending on the size and type of fish. He's even gone fishing using nets and a few times accompanied his father on whaling expeditions when he was younger.
Hunting - B
Being from a hunter-gatherer society and his tribe's primary hunter for two years, Sokka is a skilled hunter. His bad luck and clumsiness often proves to be his downfall though. However when the opportunity does arise, Sokka doesn't hesitate to kill his prey and eat what he's found. He isn't choosy about what he hunts and in Luceti he often goes for smaller game.
Woodcraft - B
Sokka is quite skilled at surviving out in the wilderness, especially given that he spent the last year camping out all across the Earth Kingdom and Fire Nation, only having permanent shelter for brief periods of time. He has no difficulty building fires and temporary shelters, tracking down animals, foraging, and other survival techniques. Many of these are significantly used for adapting to extremely cold climates, such as the South Pole.
Cooking - C
Sokka isn't an exceptional cook, having never needed to do given that it was the role of women to do so. He is however skilled enough to cook meat and make sure it's fully cooked without being burnt. Every now and then he gets the urge to experiment and tends to have mixed results.
Academic
Science/Technology -A
In regards to his own world, Sokka's grasp of technology and science is impressive, especially given his background. His inventiveness and keen insight are something he inherited from his father and honed by his meeting the Mechanist and understanding Fire Nation technology. Two years in Luceti has significantly increased his understanding of science and he's talented enough to tinker with and repair modern electronic devices. His ongoing studies in alchemy has broadened his scientific research into fields he previously had no interest in as well.
Strategy - B
Sokka has developed into something of a strategist, being the one who formulated the plan for the invasion on the Day of Black Sun, to the point of timing the entire attack so they would be in Fire Nation capitol during the short 8-minute window that the eclipse would block firebending. His plan's only failure was that Azula learned of the eclipse from the Earth King beforehand. Because he looks at the big picture, he knows when to pick his fights and when it's better to conserve time and resources for the more important battles.
Mathematics - A
Although Sokka hasn't spent much time learning complicated mathematics, he is able to figure out numbers quickly in his head. This is particularly evidenced by the schedule leading to the Day of Black Sun. After being delayed, he was able to quickly calculate that if they woke up 43 minutes earlier each day, they could remain on his schedule. Thanks to his time in Luceti in both schooling and personal pursuits, he's significantly improved his understanding of mathematics and is capable of working out complex calculations in his head or on paper.
Writing - C
His handwriting is fairly poor. And easily recognizable.
History - C
Sokka never learned much history from his own world, beyond what was told to him. He has little interest in learning the history of other worlds either.
Possessions
Boomerang
Background: Gifted to him by his father over seven years ago, Sokka has become an expert in using the weapon. He keeps the boomerang regularly sharpened to a knife's edge, making it an extremely effective projectile weapon. His aim with is impeccable, proving himself capable of throwing it in an arc to hit multiple targets at once (such as cutting down several Fire Nation traps being held by rope in the trees high above them). He's even able to target enemies simply by mentally calculating their trajectory, as shown by him being able to hit Combustion Man square in the forehead by merely seeing the target of his attack and working out its source. It was in this way he was able to defeat and kill Combustion Man using nothing but his boomerang. As always, his boomerang always manages to come back to him no matter where it's thrown or where it hits.
Sokka has a special sentimental attachment to the weapon and always calls it "Boomerang" rather that simply a boomerang. It's one of his prized possessions and both times he's nearly lost it had been a crushing blow to him. He was naturally overjoyed the find it had been returned to him in Luceti and he has continued to make good use of it, even sometimes in hunting, showing himself to be able to easily bring down fleeing waterfowl with his weapon. Thanks to his training with wind magic and Kipinn, Sokka has found ways of incorporating the magic with his boomerang. Primarily he's able to use it to give the weapon an extra push, making his throws stronger and faster. He's been working on a new technique to use the weapon's own spin to create a mini-cyclone inside of it with the practical effect of being able to drag small objects back to him with the boomerang.
For Sokka's entire life, there has been one thing that Sokka could always count on. That Boomerang would be there for him. A gift from his father years before he left for the war, Boomerang is a constant reminder to Sokka of his duties as a Warrior of the Water Tribe, which not only include becoming stronger, but also protecting his family and friends. Because of that, Boomerang has been a key part of Sokka's life and a very significant part of his own identity. Out loud he might profess to be the "Meat and Sarcasm Guy", but in reality, he always saw himself as the "Boomerang Guy". Even when Karma threatened to end him in a small crack in the earth, Sokka wouldn't give up Boomerang.
After all. Boomerang always comes back. That's more than he can say for most people in his life, after all. It is that simple truth that makes it more than just a weapon, but like an extension of Sokka himself. If Boomerang can come back, then so can Sokka. For that reason, even as he's found other weapons, he keeps this particular one close by. And for good reason, his skill with it is without equal. He never misses his target with Boomerang. They're a team that can't be broken apart, even if his friends might not even understand. It's more than just a weapon to him. It's a part of himself.
Note: Sokka always keeps his boomerang on him, even more so than he does his sword. He keeps it in a special holster along his back, usually underneath his sword's sheath. However, if he's wearing his armor, he keeps it holstered on his belt at his side.
Space Sword
Background: Forged from a meteorite by Sokka, with the help of Master Piandao, Sokka's 'Space Sword' ranks second in Sokka's most important personal belongings. The jian itself is unique because it's not something Sokka would be able to reproduce (due to lack of meteorite rock) and although he doesn't mind showing it off, he doesn't like to risk losing it again. Although Sokka was already a fairly skilled fighter to begin with, his short lessons with Piandao set Sokka up to begin dramatically increasing his combat effectiveness. He continued training himself afterward and proved to be an extremely effective swordsman in the Fire Nation Invasion. This was particularly shown when, while jumping on the head of a Komodo Rhino and proceeding to cut a soldier's spear down the middle with his blade. He has also used the weapon to great effect in its impressive durability and sharpness, having demonstrated the ability to cut through even metal with the sword.
Because it was made by a member of the Order of the White Lotus, the sword's sheath has marking similar to those of a White Lotus tile. He has continued to practice with his blade ever since arriving in Luceti and has become increasingly more skilled in its usage. Although he doesn't quite consider himself a swordmaster just yet, he's becoming increasingly more confident with his own abilities. Lately he's been working on a way to combine filial magic with his sword fighting. One technique he's mastered is using Eferin to light it on fire, increasing its effectiveness as the heated blade cuts even cleaner and faster than ever.
Note: Sokka can almost always be found with his sword strapped to his back. He's also known to use it in unorthodox ways, such as cutting mundane objects with it if he doesn't have his machete on hand.
Chainmail
Background: A special set of chainmail created meticulously by Edward's expert hands. Originally Sokka ordered it merely for training purposes due to Okita Souji's harsh training sessions, but after seeing the finished product, complete with the Water Tribe symbol on the design itself, Sokka has put it to use, wearing it underneath his leather Tribal armor as a second layer of defense. As a matter of fact, he put it to good use during the draft and there was a few times where its added presence kept him from injury.
When not in use, Sokka keeps it on a special display in his room. The added weight typically slows him down, so he only ever uses it for occasional training or serious combat.
Messenger Bag
Background: A simple bag purchased in the Earth Kingdom. They were low on money, but Sokka felt he deserved something nice, especially after the events of Avatar Day. And yet after buying it, he felt instant buyer's remorse as he saw no use for it, even if Momo felt it was quite nice. It was only after Aang won the Earthbending Championship Belt, which Sokka took to wearing, that he realized it really worked for him. Sadly he gave up the belt to Toph later.
He kept the bag for the rest of season 2, where it came in handy for carrying a multitude of things, not the least which being scrolls and maps stolen from the Spirit Library. He lost track of it after Ba Sing Se, perhaps putting it away because of the obvious Earth Kingdom look to it while hiding out in the Fire Nation. He ended up finding it again Luceti and uses it all the time now. He ended up sewing in compartments on the inside and uses it to carry anything from his journal, smoke bombs and explosives, extra knives, sharpening tools, basic first aid items, and the occasional lemur.
Note: IT'S NOT A PURSE.
Sokka's Man Purse
Water Tribe Armor
Background: The traditional armor of the Southern Water Tribe. From the neck to the feet, the armor is composed of leather, dyed blue. It is strong and durable enough to provide some protection against blunt force and slow down bladed weapons. Primarily it protects from the flames of firebenders. On the top of the leather armor is a more ornamental layer that sits on the shoulders and chest, displaying the Water Tribe symbol. This layer is more rigid and reinforced, to protect the vital regions. The wolf helmet serves a similar purpose, while also giving the warriors a fierce, frightening appearance to intimidate enemies with its ferocity.
Sokka first received this armor from his father before the eclipse took place. Though it was offscreen, this was a very big deal to Sokka. It was a sign of him truly being counted as a Water Tribe Warrior. It's among his most valuable possessions and he takes great pride and care in maintaining it. Because he's grown in Luceti, he's been forced to modify it in order to continue wearing it. Because the opportunity for battle rarely presents itself, Sokka will sometimes wear it while hunting.
Note: Thanks to Molly Hayes, he has a replica of his helmet, which she made before his real one finally showed up. Although he doesn't use it for real combat, the replica does get used as 'attractive headgear', as it is much softer and lightweight than the real thing.
Headcanon
Sibling Headcanon
-Katara - January 1st in their world, July 5th in Luceti
-Sokka - November 17th in their world, February 25th in Luceti
Sokka in canon is one year, two months older than Katara. Due to Katara's timeline and delayed arrival, it is now one year six months.
GROWING UP
-Hakoda called Katara 'sunshine' as a girl.
-Kya used to sing to them as children.
-Their schooling was handled mostly by Gran Gran.
-One of Hakoda's sled animals, a polar bear dog named Tuyok, died when they were about 7 and 6.
-Katara saw their mother's burnt body. Sokka never saw Kya and it was months before he truly accepted she was dead and not merely gone away.
SOUTH POLE
-Mouse Ears are a common flower in the South Pole summers.
-Artic Lemon Flowers are very pleasant smelling.
-Boats are traditionally constructed from whale bone and fitted with whale skin. Larger ships required imported wood.
-Besides stewed sea prunes, a favorite dessert was whale blubber mixed with snow and sugar (when available) for a dish somewhat similar to ice cream.
-The Southern Lights could be seen from high places, although sometimes they could be spotted from the village. Hakoda used to take Sokka (and once Katara) to a particular spot on the hunting expeditions where they could be seen the clearest. It was believed by their tribe that the lights were the Ocean and Moon Spirit dancing together.
GENERAL
-Elements - the name for the Rock/Scissors/Paper game that Sokka and Aang play. Air beats Water, Water beats Earth, Earth beats Fire, Fire beats Air.
Evolution of Combat
Since his arrival in Luceti, Sokka's combat ability has significantly improved by various factors. The most significant is due to his training with Okita Souji and Derek Bliss. With Souji's style of fighting, Sokka has learned to fight in the thick of things, taking on multiple combatants at once and causing the most damage with taking as few blows in turn - making his best defense into being a quick and vicious offense. Although not a tactic he like to employ, because of how bloody it is, he has made good use of it during the draft where he fought Third Party soldiers using such tactics.
Thanks to Derek, Sokka has developed a great amount of endurance and stamina, being able to run and fight longer than he ever was before, meaning he can fight harder and take more roughing up as a result. Derek's training has also built on the hand to hand combat he learned from Suki, being able to take advantage of his own strength as well as use his enemy's against them. Thanks to his light and wiry frame, he is usually able to best his opponents in speed.
Never satisfied with what he can achieve through natural skill and strength, Sokka has pushed himself towards finding other ways to increase his effectiveness. Using Filial magic, he has found a number of ways. Using Kipinn's wind, he has found ways to increase air resistance and in fact, propel himself faster with everything he does, giving him an extra edge of speed and strength. Eferin's fire is a favored tactic, often lighting up his own sword. Although it doesn't make his sword that much more dangerous, it does create an element of intimidation. More significantly, he's learned to use Eferin to control his enemy's flames, allowing him to redirect them around him to avoid being burned. Tsinku's electricity is used sparingly, but he has learned to create controlled electrical shocks from his own internal electrical impulses that are effective and don't leave him as drained.
Because filial magic only exists in the enclosure and has limited use to him, he supplements his lack of powers with his own ingenuity. Aside from using smart use of terrain while fighting, he also employs a number of bombs that he keeps on his person. These range from low yield explosives, smoke bombs, stink bombs, and recently pepper spray. Because these take effort for him to make and develop, he typically only keeps a few on his person and only really stocks up during drafts. During drafts, he's also specially requested explosive boomerangs of his own design. Unfortunately they are too impractical for him to be able to successfully make his own, meaning he never has them in Luceti.
He's also learned some abilities from some of his more unique Luceti experiences. As Avatar Sokka, he has experienced being a bender and although he cannot use those techniques, his understanding of them makes him better prepared at dealing with both earthbenders and waterbenders. As female Sokka, a full time Kyoshi Warrior, he's retained some of her ability using war fans. Most significantly, his time with 'Slayer instincts' and 'Slayer weapon mastery' advanced his ability with many weapons. Although those abilities are gone, much of the skill he developed while using them has been retained.

Wang Fire
Journal:
Background: Sokka has only heard stories of this man, reputed by many to be not only a man of incredible wit, but also a Sausage Master. A loyal member of the Fire Nation, he strongly upholds the values that all citizens should, which includes harsh punishment and accepting bribes. He is also well known among many circles for being an excellent therapist, being personally responsible for talking the Avatar through many personal crises. His beard is majestic.
Avatar Sokka
Journal:
Background: Sokka's counterpart from an alternate universe, seen in late August when Sokka was replaced by him. This Sokka comes from a universe where Sokka has basically everything he could have wanted. Family, respect, powers, and a beard. But this Sokka took everything for granted and was a colossal jerk because of it. He flirted with all of Sokka's closest friends, pissed off Xion and Sanji, and did things Sokka won't soon forget.
... however, he left Sokka with crystal clear memories of his mother, a knowledge of lost Southern Water Tribe culture, and a greater appreciation for how he himself turned out. Unfortunately, he also left Sokka with some memories he'd rather not have as well as the as of yet unnoticed ability to determine a girl's measurements simply by looking at them. Despite everything that happened, Sokka sort of hopes Avatar Sokka really does exist. It's nice to think maybe there's a world out there that didn't suffer a hundred year war and where his family is still whole and happy.
Fem!Sokka
Journal:
Background: Another alternate universe counterpart, female Sokka's life is similar to her normal canon counterpart. Growing up, she rebelled against Water Tribe gender roles and the idea she should stay in the village and not be out hunting and fighting. She was quite the tomboy and very close to her father, to the point she actually did learn some fighting from him. However when he left to fight in the war, she was left behind because it was her place to stay at home and tend to the old and young. She refused to do this and trained hard to become a warrior, even though ultimately she found out that her skill did not match her determination.
Much of her journey with the Avatar is the same as Sokka's. She become a Kyoshi Warrior early on and was very close to Suki, although they didn't come to realize their feelings for each other until Serpent's Pass. In the North Pole, Sokka was not as close to Yue, although she hated Hahn who scoffed at the idea of a female warrior. Personality-wise, she is similar to Sokka, although generally more upbeat and a little more flirtatious. One noticeable difference is that she has no real talent with boomerangs, since she never received one as a gift from her father.

Physical Traits Meme
APPEARANCE: Something like this. Notably Sokka is older looking, more muscular, wears his hair longer, has a braid on the right side of his face, and a bear. A full body image can be seen here of what he looks like Season One. He dresses more or less in the same manner still.
HEIGHT: 5'9, pushing towards 5'10 which is where he'll probably max out.
WEIGHT: Probably somewhere above 160 lbs. He's getting fairly muscular.
POSTURE: He tends to slouch a lot, though when he it comes down to business, he stands straight and tall.
VOICE: Like this! His voice voice is a little deeper now and he isn't quite so squeaky anymore.
ITEMS: Oh jeez. Sokka LOVES stuff. On an average day he'll have both his space sword and boomerang along his back, though sometimes he'll settle for just the boomerang. He also will usually carry around a bag full of various items outlined here.
PECULIARITIES: Well as Lucetians go, Sokka is a little darker skinned than most people in Luceti. For as laid back as he seems, he's kind of paranoid and is always prepared for trouble.

15 Facts Meme
So when Katara left to go get her revenge, he ultimately didn't stop her. After all, he likely realized she never quite got that closure, especially since she was so close to the action when it happened. So he didn't raise as many objections as he could have. But they did talk about it after the fact. The episode closes with Katara walking towards Sokka (and Appa). So things were discussed.
2. Going with the above, he never did find out that the raiders were looking for a waterbender and that's why their mother died. He didn't find out until Luceti, when AU!Katara's story made it painfully obvious what had happened. He doesn't hold it against Katara.
3. Sokka is something of a prodigy with untapped potential. Being in the isolated South Pole, he never really had much to work with and all his lessons came from Gran Gran, but he was very knowledgable about whatever scientific facts he could get. Unfortunately Sokka is very focused when it comes to learning. He only pays attention to things he think are beneficial to him, especially in a battle situation. If he learned for the sake of learning, he could be extremely intelligent.
4. He's also a quick study for combat. This is kind of a forced explanation for how Sokka goes from being rather incompetent at the beginning (save for with his boomerang) to being able to cut a soldier's spear down the middle in mid air with perfect precision, mere episodes after learning from Piandao (not to mention being able to beat Piandao's butler only a day or so into training). Learning a particular style is hard for him though, he's at his best at improvising in combat. He also excels at rematches, because once he learns an opponent's moves, he's able to counter them a lot better.
5. This was never said one way or another in the show, but Sokka receiving a White Lotus tile from Piandao makes him an initiate in the Order. Sokka is completely unaware of this, however.
6. Before the AU event, Sokka had been convinced he would want to be an Earthbender the most, because they have the most fun. However, a week of the Avatar and going around surfing on the water, he'd definitely pick Waterbending.
7. Although he's not as adamant as he was about it in Book One, Sokka still perceives himself as the 'leader' of Team Avatar, even though he realizes most of the time it's usually group decisions that lead the way. He's not very good at being the responsible, mature one though. He does have his moments (especially shown in The Runaway with Toph), so he ends up being the one who keeps the group motivated either by being demanding (like with his schedule in The Painted Lady) or just by being a goof that keeps things interesting (as seen when he isn't around the group in Sokka's Master).
8. Sokka's guilt over failing Yue is one of the reasons he has his so-called 'harem' in Luceti. He's just ridiculously protective of girls and there seems to be a lot around that aren't quite as badass as the ones in his universe (but between Toph, Azula, Katara, and Suki... yeah)
9. Yue was definitely his first girlfriend, but probably not his first crush. There's other villages in the Southern Tribe. Before his dad left for the war, Sokka would sometimes visit those villages and probably had a few boyish crushes on some pretty girls his age. But once Hakoda and the men were gone, his village became isolated and he never had a chance to visit again.
10. When he and Katara were children, their dad owned a pet Polar Bear Dog that used to be part of his old sledding team. His name was Tuyok and he died when Sokka was seven.
11. Their mother used to sing to them as children and had a beautiful singing voice. Unknown to either sibling, Sokka is the one who inherited her singing voice. He is completely unaware of this, since he generally doesn't sing except for sometimes in the shower.
12. Sokka really does think his art is good. He just believes he has his own special, unique style that no one else appreciates.
13. He really struggles with his identity as a warrior. Following Sokka's Master, he had dealt with his 'Bending Envy' and began to appreciate his own value to his friends, even if he couldn't always keep up with them. Luceti was a great smack in the face for him when he met so many people who had special abilities that surpassed anything he could ever achieve. Although it's made him train all the harder, he realizes that ultimately he can never 'catch up' with everyone else. He won't admit it, but this is something that really bugs him.
14. Bloodbending is scary. Still, he doesn't worry about Katara ever using it against him. Besides, the Full Moon holds a lot more significance to him, because of Yue. The fact Katara is powered up during that time doesn't really register.
15. From the ages ten to thirteen, Sokka accompanied the hunters of his tribe, which is where he learned all his wilderness skills. Some hunting expeditions would have them leave the village for weeks at a time, either traveling further into the ice to pursue the herds or going out on fishing or whaling trips. During those times, he could see the Southern Lights far clearer than they could in the village. Also of note, his first two months in Luceti were the longest time he and Katara had ever been apart. Of course, all these hunting expeditions stopped when Hakoda and the men left for war.
Daily Life Meme (April 25th, '12)
2) Weight: About 170 lbs
3) Eye color/Hair Color: Blue eyes with brown hair.
4) Age: 18 years old. (He arrived in Luceti a few months shy of 16)
5) Physical features: Sokka is a little more mature and sturdier than his icons indicate. This is a good idea of what he looks like in-game now.
6) Voice: Have some voice clips. Now that he's older, his voice is a little deeper and he doesn't go as high pitched anymore.
7) Who do they live with and how are chores divided in their house/apartment?:
Right now he lives with Katara, Suki, Zuko, and Aang. Inevitably Katara ends up doing a lot of the cleaning up, but Sokka has got into the habit of doing stuff too. Since he doesn't cook, he's often the one doing after-dinner dishes. He's also the sort of 'handyman' of the house for when things break and need fixing.
8) Their favorite (and least favorite, if you want) foods and who does the cooking in their house/apartment?:
Sokka loves meat, especially if it's spicy. He also enjoys baked goods, but doesn't like things that are too sweet. Vegetables are okay with him, but not his favorite. Steak is his favorite meal. Usually Katara cooks and Zuko sometimes helps out. Sokka is known to cook up some bacon, steaks, or whatever else if he's in the mood. He knows how to cook meat, at least.
9) What they do during an average day in Luceti:
Actually I am lame and gave him a vague sort of shedule. In general he spends his time at the smithy tinkering with stuff, or with his nose stuck in a technical or scientific book, or just generally goofing off and hanging out.
10) Their general sense of fashion:
Sokka still prefers the standard Water Tribe tunic (like this) since he does like to go sleeveless (especially now that he's getting muscular!). He usually gets his tunics made by Shiki now, even though she tries to push him to change the style a little bit. He's a little more open to other stuff these days. He's started to get used to the idea of blue jeans (it helps that they are blue!) and since he outgrew his boots from home, he'll wear boots of a more modern style. He still won't wear just regular shoes, though. He likes his boots. In the summer he might switch to sandals on a particularly hot day.
Right now where it's kind of cool out, he'll wear this flannel jacket that Buffy gave him. During a particularly bright day, he'll sometimes sport these cool shades, also a gift from Buffy. He generally trusts her sense of fashion.
11) Do they have any hobbies? Did they come up with these hobbies in Luceti, or was it something they always did?:
Sokka has grown to become pretty work-oriented in terms of training, working, and self-improvement. Which makes him appreciate his goof off time even more. This will generally be stuff like fishing, hunting, tinkering with stuff in his basement, trying to teach tricks to Momo and Hawky, or collecting cool weapons. He also enjoys coming up with new puns.
12) Has the situation in Luceti changed their view on certain topics/the way they react to different things?:
Sokka has mellowed out thanks to his time in Luceti. He's not as spastic, he's not as negative, and he's a whole lot more tolerant of things that don't fit into his notion of what the world is like. That's not to say he isn't critical of things that seem logical or stupid, but he'll usually just drop the matter instead of exasperating it by complaining about it. He's more confident and secure with himself, having overcome a lot of his self doubts about being a leader or a non-bender. He's also a lot less lazy now. Even though he can still be pretty lazy sometimes.
13) Do they have a weapon? If so, do they carry it at all times or just under certain circumstances?:
Sokka's primary weapons are his Space Sword and his Boomerang. In general he carries them around almost all the time, though sometimes he'll leave his sword sitting somewhere inside the house or smithy if he's just staying around the building. Aside from that, he has a few knives he'll always keep on his person and a bag of bombs that he sometimes keeps on him. During drafts he also has a small axe that has a lightning crest attached to it, thus earning him the name "Thunderaxe".
14) Who are their neighbors?:
Across the path is House 51 and 52. Those house Valvalvis and Neliel in 51 and Mithos and Martel in 52 (unless that's changed?). To the south is House 57, with Tony Stark. Sokka has met Tony, but in general he doesn't know his neighbors much at all.
15) Who are their best friends in Luceti? How often do they spend time with them and doing what?
Outside of his housemates, his best friend in Luceti is Winry. They work together and generally end up spending a lot of time together at the smithy and sometimes out it as well. He's also a lot closer to Buffy and they usually end up socializing over the journals or spontaneously meeting up, though Sokka will usually visit her at Good Spirits when she's at work. Shiki and Fenimore are both close friends and ones he will generally visit at their usual haunts and they will often track him down at the smithy.
16) Their favorite areas/stores/hang-out locations?:
Sokka works at the smithy and it's his favorite place to be, since it's his place and it's where he can feel the most knowledgable and useful. And he likes the couch there a lot. He'll spend time there even if he doesn't have stuff he's working with. Besides that, he will go to Good Spirits to talk to Buffy or All Passions to peruse the clothes and bother Shiki. He spends time in the library reading alchemy books or books about science or 'how to' guides. He likes to spend time by the ocean or the river, maintaining his boats too.
17) Wing color and how do they deal with their wings?:
Sokka has made holes in his tunics for them to slip through, but he'll wear a jacket or coat or armor over them at other times. But on a normal day, his wings are out for all to see.
18) Did they change or grow in any way physically since coming to Luceti?:
Sokka has grown about four inches, built up a lot of muscle due to his sword training and work at the smithy, grown out his hair a little longer (he now wears a braid with a bead his sister made for him), and has grown a small beard.
19) What do they miss the most from home?:
Family. Sokka misses his dad so much. It bothers him a lot that they finally got their dad back at the end of the war and that he's now spent ANOTHER two years without him.
20) What does their handwriting look like? Do they write the way they talk, or is there a clear difference between the two?:
Sokka's handwriting is pretty messy, but it's gotten better than it was. His writing is pretty similar to how he talks, but he avoids writing if he can.
21) Is the way they act in person different from the way they act over the journal system?:
He's a little more confident and relaxed in voice. In person, he's prone to being more spastic and nervous on uncomfortable subjects.
22) Did they gain/lose any personal goals during their stay in Luceti?:
One major shift for him was the change in his approach to being a warrior. Although it was important to him at home, he hit a major turning point in a misunderstanding with Sanji about how he stacked up to Katara (and just about everyone else in Luceti). As a result he spends more time than he ever did finding ways to make himself better, whether it's just training, devising new weapons, learning alchemy, or integrating Filial magic with his own style.
Also now that he's engaged, he's gained the personal goal of... well, being married eventually. Staying true and all that.
23) Is Luceti a technological upgrade, or downgrade for them? Have they adapted to these changes well?:
Upgrade. And he LOVES it so much. He's acclimated to everything very quickly by finding out how things work and in cases of stuff he can get from the store, taking them apart and trying to put them back together. As much as it interests him, it's kind of killed his penchant for inventions. Everything he's ever done or could do has already been invented. So rather than an inventor, he's more of a mechanic these days and has gained a penchant for repairing or building things.
24) FOR STUDENTS: What is their favorite class? What is their least favorite class? What about their general behavior in school?:
Science. He also likes math for the sheer logic behind it. He dislikes World Sharing, because most worlds are just nonsensical and he's not all that interested in them... He pays attention in class, more so than he used to, but he still doesn't do his homework. He only attends the first half of classes before lunch and intends to stop going (except to specialty classes) after this school year ends.
25) FOR DRINKERS: What is their favorite drink? What is their least favorite drink? Do they prefer Good Spirits or Cloud Nine? What's their attitude about and while drinking?:
Sokka doesn't drink. Much. Unless talked into it. He likes bubbly juicy drinks though. And he prefers Good Spirits. But he and Suki are known to go on dates to Cloud Nine. In general he's not big on drinking, since he doesn't find it very tasty.
26) Do they have any special talents? If so, what are they?:
Hunting, fishing, smithing, construction... he's handier than he realizes, despite his lack of special powers. He doesn't tend to realize how talented he is because he ends up getting fixated on things he's not good at, like art and cooking.
27) Have they learned any new skills or abilities in Luceti? If so, what are they? Why and how?
Sokka has vastly improved his skills in smithing and metallurgy since learning from Piandao. He's picked up Tennen Rishin style from training with Okita Souji and is a very competent swordsman now. Also he has begun learning alchemy from Edward Elric, but still can only do simple transmutations and only if he has lots of reference materials on hand.
28) What kind of habits do they have on drafts? Are they willing to kill or do they prefer to avoid fighting?
Sokka will usually fight with 'Team Avatar', whoever might happen to be with him. He usually will try to stay in a defensive position where he can help the most people, usually helping out in a strategic role by overseeing things and coordinating with other groups. Although he dislikes killing, he's come to accept it as a part of life in Luceti.
29) What kind of habits do they have on missions? What is their reason for going on them? What do they intend to use their points for?
Sokka isn't big on taking combat missions and if he does, he doesn't go for war zones. He'd rather do something more constructive than killing cultists. He keeps getting called to do missions aroud the Farmlands, much to his annoyance. Originally he started going on missions to earn enough points to get the Barcode-hiding Adhesive so Yue could be exempt from a draft, but now he just generally is saving up his points for anything he might need. He goes on missions mostly to get perspective on the outside world.
30) How long have they been in Luceti? Has that length of time impacted them in any way?:
Two years. For the most part, he's started to think of Luceti as 'home' and in a sense, come to terms with the fact that they could be there for a very long time (talking to people on missions has really solidified that idea too). Although he tries to stay optimistic about one day escaping and being home, he's developed a sort of defeatist attitude about the whole thing.
31) How do they unwind and get back to normal after a brutal experiment, event, or draft?
He sort of internalizes it and tries not to let it bother him. He tries to take it in stride. In the event of particularly harsh experiences, he may take some time to himself by camping in the forest, going on a mission, or burying himself in work. If he's really bothered by it, he'll be pretty obvious with it in the way he becomes serious and cold.
32) What is their worst experience from an experiment or kidnapping? Were there any that they actually liked?
Aside from spending a month body swapped with Haruhi (which wasn't due to the above), his most humiliating was being turned into a nine year old, but without mentally regressing to being nine. Both times he fell in love (with Toph and then Fenimore) really bothered him a lot afterward.
He actually really liked being given super strength though. That was an awesome kidnapping effect.
Plurk Headcanon
Being from the South Pole, Sokka never really got to try candy much until he went to Omashu. He sort of liked the rock candy, even if it did nearly kill him by covering his body entirely. But in general, Sokka has a pretty mild sweet tooth, because he's just not used to it. So in Luceti he rarely indulges in sweets and finds hard candy to be kind of gross. He does like chocolate though.
Sokka + Heat
So not his favorite thing, but working next to a furnace for over two years now has made it so he has a pretty good tolerance for it. He works up a sweat and he looks good doing it! But he'd rather have the cold than the heat, when it comes to the weather. Especially in Luceti, where the winter months are like a nice reminder of home.
Sokka + Hair
Sokka's hair, for him, is a cultural thing that projects hid pride in the Water Tribe and as a warrior. He used to take a lot of care and consideration in keeping it shaved and well maintained. He decided to grow it out in Luceti when Katara gave him a hair bead identical to the one Hakoda wears on his sixteenth birthday. It took awhile, but after about a year and a half he had grown his hair out long enough to keep a strand aside for braiding and beading. He's let the rest of his hair grow mostly because of Hakoda's continued absence and its kind of a way of keeping him around. If not for that, Sokka would have gone back to shaving the sides and back again (as he does in canon).

Right now he lives in Avatar House with the ever-growing 'gang'. Inevitably Katara ends up doing a lot of the cleaning up, but Sokka has got into the habit of doing stuff too. Since he doesn't cook, he's often the one doing after-dinner dishes. He's also the sort of 'handyman' of the house for when things break and need fixing.

Oh and he lost his soul and became a complete jackass.
During drafts he also has a small axe that has a lightning crest attached to it, thus earning him the name "Thunderaxe".
14) Do they have any pets? Would these pets be at their homes, or do they hang out with the character in question?:
Foo Foo Cuddlypoops - a Saber-Tooth Moose Lion that he received as a Christmas present last year. It’s nearly a year old now, so it’s about the size of a medium-sized dog now and its horns are a bit bigger now. Sokka dislikes the cutesy name he originally gave it, so he usually just calls it ‘Foo’ around most people. The little creature is playful and fairly intelligent. He’s trying to train it to be an attack animal, but it seems to be more interested in being cuddly. When it’s full grown it’ll be quite large, but it won’t reach that size until it’s five years old.
15) Who are their neighbors?: House 51, 52, and 57. This largely consists of the Zombie Run! cast (and friends) and Mithos.
16) Who are their best friends in Luceti? How often do they spend time with them and doing what?
Sokka used to have some pretty awesome friends! Not so much these days.
Normally, however, Sokka can count Winry and Edward as among his best friends. He’s close to his housemates, most notably Aang and his own sister. He has other friends like Fenimore, Buffy, and Katniss that he enjoys spending time with. With most of his friends it’s usually just hanging out and talking. With Buffy he visits her at the bar to chat about whatever comes to mind, whereas he and Katniss will go hunting together.
17) On the flip side, is there anyone they actively don’t get along with? How do they interact, and would people know about this?
Due to his current status, he doesn’t get along with a lot of people. Things are particularly frosty with him and Winry, Edward, Korra, Sheena, and especially Suki.
18) Their favorite areas/stores/hang-out locations?:
Sokka works at the smithy and it's his favorite place to be, since it's his place and it's where he can feel the most knowledgable and useful. And he likes the couch there a lot. He'll spend time there even if he doesn't have stuff he's working with. Besides that, he will go to Good Spirits to talk to Buffy. He spends time in the library reading alchemy books or books about science or 'how to' guides. He likes to spend time by the ocean or the river, maintaining his boats too.
19) Do they belong to any clubs or organizations? Which ones? Do they go regularly, or just occasionally?
Sokka is a member of Brave Vesperia and technically a co-leader along with Luke and Emil, though his participation in the group has become essentially nonexistent since he gained his death penalty.
20) Wing color and how do they deal with their wings?:
Sokka has made holes in his tunics for them to slip through, but he'll wear a jacket or coat or armor over them at other times. But on a normal day, his wings are out for all to see.
21) Did they change or grow in any way physically since coming to Luceti?:
Sokka has grown about four five , built up a lot of muscle due to his sword training and work at the smithy, grown out his hair a little longer (he now wears a braid with a bead his sister made for him), and has grown a small beard. He’s gained a lot of scars due to accidents or from battle. His most noticeable one is a large scar on his left side from where a Shift Hunter bit him.
Recently he acquired a special Shift that has increased his physical abilities by fifty percent, making him stronger and faster than he normally should be. It’s usually not noticeable, though on drafts it makes him instantly noticeable to Shift Hunters.
22) What do they miss the most from home?:
Family. Sokka misses his dad so much. It bothers him a lot that they finally got their dad back at the end of the war and that he's now spent ANOTHER three years without him.
23) What does their handwriting look like? Do they write the way they talk, or is there a clear difference between the two?:
His handwriting used to be messy, but its steadily improved since he started learning alchemy and had to start making extensive notes. But he’s also just as likely to write in scrawl that only he has any success reading.
24) Is the way they act in person different from the way they act over the journal system?:
He’s more or less the same, though he’s a little harsher and meaner on the journals just because he can get away with it.
25) Did they gain/lose any personal goals during their stay in Luceti?:
One major shift for him was the change in his approach to being a warrior. Although it was important to him at home, he hit a major turning point in a misunderstanding with Sanji about how he stacked up to Katara (and just about everyone else in Luceti). As a result he spends more time than he ever did finding ways to make himself better, whether it's just training, devising new weapons, learning alchemy, or integrating Filial magic with his own style.
His desire to return home has continuously diminished and now with his death penalty, he has absolutely no desire to ever go back to his own world.
26) Is Luceti a technological upgrade, or downgrade for them? Have they adapted to these changes well?:
Upgrade. And he LOVES it so much. He's acclimated to everything very quickly by finding out how things work and in cases of stuff he can get from the store, taking them apart and trying to put them back together. As much as it interests him, it's kind of killed his penchant for inventions. Everything he's ever done or could do has already been invented. So rather than an inventor, he's more of a mechanic these days and has gained a penchant for repairing or building things.
27) FOR STUDENTS: What is their favorite class? What is their least favorite class? What about their general behavior in school?:
Sokka stopped attending school last year. He used to pitch in as a tutor, but has since stopped doing that.
28) FOR DRINKERS: What is their favorite drink? What is their least favorite drink? Do they prefer Good Spirits or Cloud Nine? What's their attitude about and while drinking?:
Before his death penalty, he was drinking more, having moved on from fruity beverages to beer. Nowadays he partakes in the fruity stuff still, but only for the taste.
29) Do they have any special talents? If so, what are they?:
Hunting, fishing, smithing, construction... he's handier than he realizes, despite his lack of special powers. In general, Sokka is a craftsman at heart. He doesn't tend to realize how talented he is because he ends up getting fixated on things he's not good at, like art and cooking.
30) Have they learned any new skills or abilities in Luceti? If so, what are they? Why and how?
Sokka has vastly improved his skills in smithing and metallurgy since learning from Piandao. He's picked up Tennen Rishin style from training with Okita Souji and is a very competent swordsman now. Also he has been learning alchemy from Edward Elric and has reached a point where he can create his own alchemy circles, though he isn’t able to come up with new ones on the fly or use it in combat like a more experienced alchemist.
31) What kind of habits do they have on drafts? Are they willing to kill or do they prefer to avoid fighting?
Sokka will usually fight with 'Team Avatar', whoever might happen to be with him. He usually will try to stay in a defensive position where he can help the most people, usually helping out in a strategic role by overseeing things and coordinating with other groups. Although he dislikes killing, he's come to accept it as a part of life in Luceti.
Due to his death penalty, Sokka has adopted a merciless attitude and shows no remorse when dealing with cultists and uses any method at his disposal to kill them, no matter how cruel or gory it might be.
32) What kind of habits do they have on missions? What is their reason for going on them? What do they intend to use their points for?
Sokka tends to go on missions quite a bit and will usually go for whatever’s made available to him. He places no preference on combat missions, as he much prefers to take safer tasks given his close brushes with death in the past. Largely he goes on missions to get a glimpse of the outside world, but largely these days it’s just to accumulate points for his own personal use.
33) How long have they been in Luceti? Has that length of time impacted them in any way?:
Three years. For the most part, he's started to think of Luceti as 'home' and in a sense, come to terms with the fact that they could be there for a very long time (talking to people on missions has really solidified that idea too). He tends to consider his chances of ever going home to be pretty small and comes to expect that most of the people he know won’t stick around for long.
34) How do they unwind and get back to normal after a brutal experiment, event, or draft?
He sort of internalizes it and tries not to let it bother him. He tries to take it in stride. In the event of particularly harsh experiences, he may take some time to himself by camping in the forest, going on a mission, or burying himself in work. If he's really bothered by it, he'll be pretty obvious with it in the way he becomes serious and cold. He had started to drink to help cope, but these days his death penalty means he doesn’t get bothered by them at all.
35) What is their worst experience from an experiment or kidnapping? Were there any that they actually liked?
The worst is both times he was ‘Avatar Sokka’. Though it came with some cool powers, it came with a mess of memories he didn’t want. His second time as the ‘Avatar’ came with some painful memories of his entire family dying, which he still hasn’t shaken.
He really enjoyed the few months he had super powers.
