Sokka the 57th - [Action/Voice]

[Sokka has some messages to knock out of the way. He doesn't bother with a filter for the first one, mainly because he feels like being somewhat of a jerk and making light of Haruhi's ridiculous relationship with her 'minions'. In spite of that, Sokka's tone is pretty flat. There's no excitement here and it's pretty obvious through the message something is bothering him.]

Hey Haruhi, feel free to send Naoki over. He can do his thing now. [Oh wait...] Uh, after Leon takes a look over it, I guess.

Uh, hey Diana. Can I ask a favor?

[This last one he almost backs out of doing. But it's been a few days now and things haven't changed. Maybe this will help.]

So... hypothetically speaking, how do you make up it up to someone you really care about for something that really hurt them when what you did... there was nothing you could do about it?

[With things so awkward at home with Suki, Sokka has been spending less time there. It's hard to spend time with your girlfriend when she's still upset with you, but being polite about it. So this leaves him working at the smithy for longer hours, actually doing homework at the library, and once more taking part in his neverending quest to find a hat that really says Sokka to him. Through all this, he is accompanied by a certain cheeky lemur hanging around on top of his head, shoulder, or getting into things he shouldn't.

He will, at least, drag himself home for dinner. Delicious, awkward dinner.]

[ past it? well, that gives her a good enough indication of just what degree of hurt they're talking about. ] Then flash won't work. Be there, be constant. You gotta remind whoever it is that you're still that same person who really cares about them and that a mistake is a mistake.

So... does that mean the whole giving them space angle is a bad move?

Well, don't smother them. But don't get too distant. It's a total balancing game.

[ buffy is the kind of person who just tries to pretend that everything is okay most of the time. her advice is bad. ]

So, pretend everything is normal, minus the making out?

[He's not sure this is the most practical interpretation of Buffy's advice.]

[ if you're having girl problems, i feel bad for you son. ]

Are there any other girls I go around kissing?

[Yeah, he's deflecting it with some sarcasm there. It makes it easier for him.]

Dare I even ask for any more details? I mean...you're only going to get the vaguest of advice if you give a vague scenario to begin with.

Uhh, well, I'd rather not. It's kind of personal, right?

[Super, super personal. He regrets even talking about this now. Maybe he can change the subject?]

No -- I get it.

[ she clears her throat. ] I stand by what I said. Keep on being the person she cares about, too.

Yeah, well... I'm good at being Sokka.

[Too bad that's sometimes half the problem with his relationships with people.]

And I'm guessing someone else has probably already chimed in with communication.

I guess? Apologies is the popular suggestion. [Making light of his own problems? Naaah.]

Beyond the apology, though...talking about the problem. Honesty and clarity and all that good, healthy stuff.

[ the stuff she never does. ] If it's as bad as you're implying? An apology might not be enough.

I guess. When she's ready for that, at least.

[He just... never knows when. He can hardly tell when Katara is ready to talk and he's known her his whole life.]

If all else fails you can actually give in and try the letter route.

I would, but I don't think Hawky likes her very much.

[Yes, he will not send a letter unless it's through Hawky. It's how he rolls.]

Your messenger hawk is actually particular about who he delivers to? That's...unhelpful.

No no. It's just Suki. He's probably happy all of this is happening.

[And maybe Hawky is having a /just as planned moment.]

[ sounds like the worst pet ever, sokka. :| why have a messenger hawk that hates your girl? ]

You could always give it to her some...not-animal-carrying way.

I'm... not sure it really means as much that way, you know?

[But mostly he's blaming his lack of delivery animals on not thinking the letter approach is a good idea. The last time he tried to fix a problem that way, it kind of uh... backfired.]

You're probably right. [ after all, buffy kinda hates letters in the first place. ]

But uh, thanks for the advice. I'll keep the letter as a backup plan.

She loves you, Sokka -- [ or at least buffy assumes, having heard only of their relationship from sokka himself. ] She'll come around. That's what love's about.

[This already came up with his talk with Charlotte. Hearing that love word here, especially when it's "Suki loves you", it makes him wonder. And doubt things a little. Maybe he'd been thinking they were at a place that they weren't? After all, he spent nine months waiting for her in Luceti. She spent five minutes in the woods until he found her.]

... yeah, I guess so.
