Sokka the 57th - [Action/Voice]

[Sokka has some messages to knock out of the way. He doesn't bother with a filter for the first one, mainly because he feels like being somewhat of a jerk and making light of Haruhi's ridiculous relationship with her 'minions'. In spite of that, Sokka's tone is pretty flat. There's no excitement here and it's pretty obvious through the message something is bothering him.]

Hey Haruhi, feel free to send Naoki over. He can do his thing now. [Oh wait...] Uh, after Leon takes a look over it, I guess.

Uh, hey Diana. Can I ask a favor?

[This last one he almost backs out of doing. But it's been a few days now and things haven't changed. Maybe this will help.]

So... hypothetically speaking, how do you make up it up to someone you really care about for something that really hurt them when what you did... there was nothing you could do about it?

[With things so awkward at home with Suki, Sokka has been spending less time there. It's hard to spend time with your girlfriend when she's still upset with you, but being polite about it. So this leaves him working at the smithy for longer hours, actually doing homework at the library, and once more taking part in his neverending quest to find a hat that really says Sokka to him. Through all this, he is accompanied by a certain cheeky lemur hanging around on top of his head, shoulder, or getting into things he shouldn't.

He will, at least, drag himself home for dinner. Delicious, awkward dinner.]

I don't know why anyone would. They don't exactly look like good eating.

[Which is the only reason to know the subtle differences in animals. If you're planning to hunt them and eat them.]

Some people actually do eat them, I think. But then again...some people also eat moose. Go figure.

Okay, amazingly? Trying to imagine said saber-tooth moose-lion babies does conjure a pretty big ball of adorable in my mind.

Yeah. [His tone goes a little fond, with a bit of an 'awww' factor to it.] I met one once. He was pretty cute. His angry mother, not so much.

And I'm guessing this wasn't in a zoo, either.

Nope. I got stuck in a hole trying to capture said cuddly cub for lunch. Worst. Day. Ever.

Wait...you were going to eat the cub?

[ because she thought you meant you were going to eat the crazy mean momma. ]

Hey, we were on the road and it's hard to tell what kind of animal they are as a cub. A full grown one weighs over five hundred pounds! For people on the road, that's a lot of food to try and carry around and eat, you know. Very wasteful.

[He will not feel guilty about this. It's just the way the world works.]

Oh, sure. On the road. But what about at stores? I mean -- they don't sell the whole thing there.

Just...just I feel sad for the little thing.

We eat to survive. That's just how things work. We ate stuff a lot cuter back in the South Pole.

When I have time. You're not going to go on about the talking animals now, are you?

That's creepy, dude. [ she's not going to activist on you, no. ] Do they...y'know...talk to you? When you -- ?

[... he knew it. He grows a little more annoyed. It's bad enough Katara does this to him sometimes.]

They're dead before they get the chance. Besides, you eat from the grocery, right? Do you really think that the animals they kill ahead of time for us were any different?

Hey, don't give me the platform speech. I'm just curious.

[ she's too used to being coated in demon blood to get too freaked out by some dead animals. even if the cute ones are pretty cute. ]

I don't go for the big stuff. That would be wasteful, especially since Katara doesn't want me bring back a bunch of meat that needs prepared. She really likes having stuff ready to cook.

[The reason Sokka doesn't do it isn't for the taste or thrill of the hunt. It's one of the only ways he has of connecting to his life back at home and his identity as a hunter of the Water Tribe. He won't easily give that up.]

I've, uhm...never hunted before. Not for food. Is it tough?

There's a lot you have to learn to do it. For one? Patience is really important.

Ugh. Patience. Lots of waiting under camouflage, right?

That helps, yeah. And you have to study your prey. Figure out how it thinks. What it wants, what it's look for, that kind of thing. It's actually kind of interesting having new animals to hunt. They don't act exactly the same here.
