Sokka the 12th - [Written/Action]

[Filtered to his friends at 80%. You know who you are, people.]

Since my sister arrived, me, Toph, and Zuko have moved to House 56. Right next to Building 5, hard to miss. Just thought I'd filter this though, what with evil demons going around destroying houses and stuff. So feel free to update your address book!

[And that's all Sokka is writing for now. Right now he's working on getting his room set up if his housemates want to bother him. Just about everything is moved over now, not that there was a whole lot to take. Sokka will miss those purple walls back home, though. He's a little bummed out since he recently discovered that his old 'boss' Elisa stopped showing up to give him sandwiches at the smithy and seems to be gone altogether. Sure, he's his own boss now, but he was getting rather fond of jalapenos...]

Oh no! Poor Toph! ...heh, although I'm sure she was fine. She's Toph.

[And she's gonna look away for a minute. Two months with just the two of them, experiencing the end of the war... it's like she's talking to a stranger. That's gonna make her mad in 3...2...] It's so weird. I didn't... miss you at all. And you said I did all this stuff I don't remember! I don't understand how they could take me from before and have you not remember I was gone. Why would they do that!

[Okay Sokka. You can handle this. If Gran-Gran and dad can do it, so can you. You're the older brother and you have like, an extra six months on her in age that you didn't have before. Time to completely defuse the situation as the older, responsible brother.]

You weren't gone. We've both been in this place before, we just don't remember it for some reason. This place is just weird all around. Really, I don't know why they want to mess with us. Probably some stupid experiment or something. Anyways, not to sound sappy or anything, but it's not like a few months means we're not siblings anymore.

Well of course not! [She hadn't even thought of that. He was Sokka, who'd been there after Mom died and after Dad left, who'd traveled with her around the world. She might not always want to be seen with him in public, but he was her brother, and nothing was going to change that. Nothing.] How could you even say that!

[Time to stand up and make with the angry pacing] Just because you remember things that I don't doesn't change what I do remember. Ugh! How dare they do something like this! It's not fair!

[Greeeeat. She managed to take that out of context. Just his luck. Best to let her work it out of her system.]

You're absolutely right. [There, a victory in itself. When in doubt, just agree. But in case that's not enough, he stands up and takes her by the shoulders.] But things haven't been fair for us in a long time. We have to stay strong for like, Toph and stuff. She's very impressionable.

Toph. Impressionable. [You should have quit while you were ahead, Sokka.] Sokka. She's an earthbender. She's about as impressionable as rock!

[But she doesn't break out of your hold and isn't yelling.]

Right. And Earthbenders make rocks very impressionable. But earthbenders can't do anything to water, except throw rocks in it. So we have to be like, water that... okay, I have no idea where this metaphor is going. Anyways, I'm glad to see you again. I actually had to learn how to cook!

[Have a tiny wry chuckle. It's good to see some things don't change.] You? Cook? That I have to see. Not... you know, taste. But see.

[Mission accomplished.]

I'll have you know that my food is actually edible. And not just for me, either!

Right, Sokka. Sure. [She's going to step back and sit on the bed again, but he gets a shot a quick grateful look before she breaks contact.]

Then I guess you won't mind demonstrating tonight!

Oh fine. [He was hoping you would cook a decent meal around here. Not that Sanji hasn't kept them fed well, but there's nothing like authentic Water Tribe cuisine.] Sausages for dinner it is.

This I can't wait to see.

So besides learning how to cook [and she is awesome for not laughing right here], what have you been up to?

[What she really wants to ask is for him to tell her everything that she doesn't remember. Especially about Aang and the last battle and what happened on the Day of Black Sun and if he ever found Suki again. But the fact that all this happened 'without her' is still a lot for her to deal with.]

You mean back home? I guess that depends on the last thing you remember. You remember picking up Toph, I guess. What about when Ba Sing Se fell?

I remember that. [Hoo boy does she remember that. She wouldn't be half so pissed at Zuko if she didn't.]

The last thing I remember... [And she looks away again] we were in the Fire Nation. And we... helped them catch Hama.

I see... [He remembers that fairly well. Besides losing control of his body to that old woman, he remembers how much that hurt Katara. Ouch.]

Well... the Day of Black Sun was after that... we lost. [He'll go on to explain everything that happened then leading up to their escape to the Western Air Temple.]

[And she listens with wide eyes and probably interrupts a dozen times and makes him go back over details that he might not have thought were important. Also, she is suitably impressed by the submarines.]

Wow. So what happened to dad? He's OK, isn't he? And... Suki? Did you ever find her?

Dad was taken to a Fire Nation prison, like everyone else. But he's okay! We even got him out. Suki was there too. But uh, that's after the part Zuko comes in. Should I just skip that?

Yes. [Arms cross, glower, sigh.] No. What happened?

[She won't admit it, but even through her anger she's a tiny bit curious - how could Zuko have possibly lived long enough to become one of the good guys... without her killing him as soon as he showed his nasty lying face.]

Right. So, the Western Air Temple. So apparently while we were escaping, Zuko comes following after us in War Balloon all on his own. A few days later.... [And Sokka explains Zuko's fail attempts to get on their good side, including how Toph got her feet burned, Appa licking him, and so forth. He'll go into what he remembers of Zuko's explanation for being unhappy and his choice to help Aang, although Sokka's explanation of that is admittedly poor.]

And we just believed him and let him stay? [And now Katara is miffed at her future self for allowing such a thing. Not to mention everyone else.]

I didn't believe him either, but Aang trusted him and Toph thought he was okay. I figured that was enough, even though I still kept an eye on him. More importantly, with Sozin's Comet still coming, someone had to teach Aang to firebend.

[Very grudgingly, Katara will admit that this is practical. But that doesn't mean she has to like it.] ...well all right, fine. Did he actually come through? [Why no, she's not looking for an excuse to hunt him down here and now.]

As a matter of fact he did. A few days later, I asked him where dad would be. So that night, I went to take Appa to the Boiling Rock prison. [He continues on to tell her about how Zuko went with him, their time in the prison, finding Suki, and eventually all of them escaping.] ... if Zuko had been planning to betray us, he could have turned me in at the prison.

I can't believe you just went off with him like that! By yourself! What if he had!?

[Yeah, she got the part that Zuko helped him rescue their dad and Suki and maybe a tiiiiny bit of 'he's OK' was planted before being overwhelmed with fury that he'd risk himself like that, trusting only Zuko.]

I had to go there, with or without Zuko. It was my invasion, my plan, and I was the one who failed. [Now it's Sokka's turn to be upset. Even though the Fire Lord was defeated, he still feels responsible for everything that went wrong on the invasion.] If Zuko hadn't went with me, I would've never got out of there by myself.

[Her response is immediate, brain to mouth filter - gone] Don't be so selfish! It was your plan but we all agreed with it because it was a good one, the best we had! If the plan failed we all failed. We were beaten, but there's no shame in that. As long as we got back up. [...and she softens, grows a little uncertain] And we did, right? We won in the end.

I know I wasn't there, but even if I was I'm sure I'd say the same thing. I'm just glad you're OK.
