Sokka the 71st - [Action/Voice]

[Today, Sokka starts out with some simple messages for the journal.]

I know this is pretty late, but... Luceti has a way of causing delays. I got a lot of orders two months ago and they're all finally finished. If you haven't already picked them up, then... well, you should do that. I think you'll be pleased. [ooc: if you want to assume they already picked this stuff up a while ago, that's fine too!]

So, now that it's nice and warm these days, how do people feel about... fishing? I just made my own fishing rod, so I'm thinking tomorrow morning? Fishing time. On the river, maybe. Or I could bring out one of the boats and head to the lake. Some company wouldn't hurt. As long as you're not the noisy kind. I uh, actually want to catch some fish.

20th

[For today, Sokka works his regular shift at the smithy. From morning until the afternoon, he's at the smithy. There's not much to do now that he's done, so he straightens things out, hangs out on the couch with an alchemy book in his face, or if he gets bored with that... he reaches for his fishing rod under the couch and does a few practice casts. If he thinks no one will catch him doing it. Winry wouldn't approve. 8|

In the afternoon, he'll be around House 56 in the front and back yard, with a can of dirt and pushing over rocks and stones looking for worms underneath. A good fisherman needs his bait, after all! And he wants to be ready for tomorrow!]

21st

[As soon as his sparring practice is over, Sokka sets himself up on the southernmost bridge in town. Sure, it's a little gloomy today, but still time to fish. He has a chair, he has a fishing line, he has a cold box to put fish in, and he has not shortage of snacks and drinks. About ten minutes into his fishing, he gets drenched. Watch as poor Sokka has to gather up his stuff and flee back home. Later when he has an umbrella, he dejectedly heads to the smithy to put in a few hours. And then a few more hours later at the library to do alchemy research. No fishing today. :(]

22nd

[After a rainy day and rainy night, Sokka wakes up to A BIG BEAUTIFUL RAINBOW. He'll try to rush through his morning training, that way he can head to the river west of his house and ready a canoe. With a clear sky above, he's going out to the lake for fishing. There's room enough for two, for anyone eager to join. Following that, he'll be out on the southern lake fishing, cooking fish on the shore for lunch, and enjoying a good solid day off. STRESS FREE.]

I guess so. But it was fun while it lasted.

[Aang usually preferred to move on to new jokes anyway. But thinking about jokes gave him a new train of thought.]

...Robin actually has a friend back at his home who tells jokes a lot like you. He's this green guy who can turn into all kinds of animals. You'd get along well if you met... [He eyes the bucket of worms and gives a teasing grin.] as long as you don't try to eat him first.

... I wouldn't try to eat him. Especially if he's green. He'd need to be more worried if he turned into a cabbage or something.

It's not like I'd eat him! I think I've lost my taste for cabbages somehow. And he only does living things. I think. Those superpower things are confusing.

Riiiight. Says the Avatar.

What? My "powers" are easy to follow. There's just... a lot of them.

I just know I've met a lot of superheroes here and their powers seem simpler. You guys have to do all your fancy moves to make stuff move around. Superman could just shoot lasers from his eyes.

Well, kinda. But that's because bending's more of discipline than an actual power. And there's more... defined limits, I guess? Whatever we do, it all comes down to the four elements.

I know, I know! I'm from the same world! I'm just saying, shooting lasers from your eyes is simple. You look at something, you set it on fire. Not even Combustion Man had it that easy.

I guess. Well, no one really knows what Combustion Man's deal was.

He shot explosions from his forehead. Seemed pretty simple to me.

Yeah, but it was really weird when you compare it to actual Firebending. Not to mention we never really learned anything about him except that he could do that. And that he'd rather kill us than listen to Zuko.

I think maybe he was just jealous of your tattoo.

Had to be it! He couldn't get one of his own because of his... whatever that weird eye thing was.

I think that was a tattoo too. Unless it really was an eye.

Whatever it was... I think I'm perfectly fine with not knowing.

[Sokka smirks a little, then his eyes linger to his can of worms.

... and the fact Aang is upset about using worms for bait. He frowns a bit.]

Did Katara tell you about the drafts?

...I've read about them in the Guide.

I've been on three.

[He pauses for a moment, looking at him sympathetically. He's not sure he wants to hear details, but he knows it's something he might need to hear.]

What's it like?

[He crosses his arms and looks away. It's hard to look Aang in the eye about something like this.]

Worse than any of the battles we fought. Everything in the guide is true.

[He feels a heavy weight on him, thinking back on the War described in the Guide, and his friends who have been here for a long time. He looks at his best friend, having no idea how to comfort him from the horrors he doesn't know about. It's very clear from his looking away that Sokka, the warrior who was once so eager to take down the Fire Nation, had suffered from this.]

I'm sorry they made you do that, Sokka. I can't even imagine... what that must have been like.

[... no, pity isn't what he's looking for. That just makes him twist up his face unhappily.]

I did what I had to do. We all have. That's part of living here.

So everyone's done it by now. [pause] And I will too.

Maybe. If you're here long enough. The drafts seem less frequent now. [... so maybe Aang will miss out.]

I hope they realized they're a stupid idea and never do them again.
