Sokka the 68th - [Voice/Action]

[This morning, Sokka received a message through his journal. One he hadn't quite been expecting after everything that had happened last week. After pondering over it a bit, he inevitably was drawn to the journals to talk about it.]

You have to give the Malnosso credit. They drop a moon on the village and then they expect us to go show up to work for them like nothing ever happened. And it's... Farm Security. So I don't even get to do anything exciting. I get to a place I've already been, to make sure that 'our' food supplies don't get attacked. Yeah. That's great, "CJ". I'm really appreciating that. [He groans.] Well anyway, looks like I report at nine in the morning tomorrow. Apparently I'll be gone for five days. I'll take my journal, but apparently it won't work while I'm there. Guess I'll find out.

... so, I'm not the only one who signed up, right?

Oh. And Hiccup... keep an eye on the smithy. [Normally he'd ask Winry to do that. But things are a little... different with them lately. So he's not exactly jumping at the chance to go and have a public conversation with her. Or private, really.

For anybody who wants to run into him, Sokka will be doing his normal stuff at the smithy. He's making some preparations for needing to fight, since at this point he has only the Malnosso's word that this is less dangerous than a draft. Even though it's starting to get too cold for it, he'll eat his lunch out in the plaza like he always does. Other than that, he'll be spending his day as normally as he can. Come home for a normal dinner, tell some bad jokes to his housemates, and spend some time with his gal. In the morning, he'll head out.]

[Hiccup is following along, but that last bit totally catches him off guard.]

Wait--really? You want me to take care of things? [Did that camping trip really improve your opinion of him THAT much, bro? Unexpected!]

Well. You know. Take orders. Make weapons. The stuff I usually do. No big deal, right?

Well--yeah, sure, of course. I'm just...surprised you asked me, that's all.

Well Winry doesn't make weapons. Who am I supposed to ask, Toothless?

Farm security. [There's a faint snort. Really.] I presume you signed up for guard duty?

[voice]

[markofthewise]

... well I had guard experience. [Kind of.] It wasn't the only thing I signed up for.

[voice]

[chikaidestroyer]

I see. You threw out a large net and expected something bigger.

Well, I'm sure there will be some curious to hear about your experiences, even if you are only revisiting a place we have protected before.

[Voice]

You were expecting something more glamorous?

[Voice]

Glamorous, no. Interesting, yes. This is like being on my second draft again. Only more boring.

[Voice]

Least it sounds easy enough. [These are the kinds of things he used to do all the time back home, this one in particular.] Unless something shows up. But hey. Then you wouldn't be bored.

[...He barely listened to CJ okay ]

Eh... was it?

[Some page flipping- oh. ...Wow, it is right there.]

You couldn't just tell them you're not interested?

I'm pretty sure I don't have to go. Just because it's boring doesn't mean I won't do it. I want to see how this all works.

I do too, but I just closed this place for a while and it wouldn't be fair to do that again. So maybe in a couple weeks.

[Sokka's going to be gone? Hiccup in charge of the smithy? This might be a fantastic time to steal some tools! Still, though---Malnosso mission and all. The last thing he wants is for Sokka to somehow become hurt in the line of duty.

And he is himself interested in taking on one of these missions someday.]

Luck to you, Farm Guard. I'd be highly interested in hearing about what this is like once you're back.

[He should probably suggest Hiccup put away some of the tools.

... or maybe Sokka will take his home today and put them somewhere safe. That is, it's what he'd do if he knew that Jack would be after them.]

That's assuming there's anything interesting to tell. You've been there before, haven't you?

Aye. But not outside a draft; nor have any of us that I know. So. Curious, is all.

[Katara sees this announcement, flips opened her journal and - yeah. Glares at it. When Sokka gets back home as Katara is preparing dinner, she will still be having her journal opened and glaring at it on and off.

She glances up when he enters.]

Hey.

[...glare at the journal again.]

[markofthewise]

[When he walks in the door, he deposits some of his usual gear beside the door as he usually does. He's hoping to spot Suki. But it looks like just Katara is out and about!

... and she's not happy. WELP.]

Okay, first, in my defense, everyone was still asleep when I made that announcement! And you guys get cranky if I wake you up.

[...glancing back up at him now.] What?

[Oh. Well, he has a point. She should really yell at him for this, huh? It might be better than admitting that she's hoping to glare the journal into submission.]

That's true, but this is something important. You should have woken us up, or at least waited until we got up to tell us.

[Yeah, her heart is so only partially into this lecture. Not that Sokka will notice - it's not as if he listens to her lectures anyway.]

Sure. Why not? [Okay, so he knows the why nots. But he's going anyway.]
