Sokka the 82nd - [Action]

When Sokka woke up in the smithy, he was, to say the least, concerned. He had apparently died and gone to weapon heaven. And then of course, there was some horrible saber-toothed moose lion on the floor next to him. Feeling rather panicked, Sokka scooped up his boomerang (and the awesome looking sword next to it) and snuck out of the smithy without waking it up. Upon examining the boomerang, he noted it was strange how it had a few extra notches and scratches to it, like it had seen some rough times. That worried him.

The town proved even more mind blowing. It was huge. Buildings raising up beyond what he could imagine and there were so many people and houses. And not a single inch of snow. In fact, he felt rather hot and he immediately had to shed his parka. He felt lost and confused and was worried about where the rest of his tribe was. Where was Katara? Or Gran-Gran? He needed to find them. And thus he began to explore town, from one shop and house to another. Sneakily.

At some point, Momo comes landing on his shoulder. A nice lemur. A nice delicious lemur. Sokka easily catches it (since it doesn't resist).

"Mmm. Hello meat. You're just in time for lunch!"

And so with lemur in tow, Sokka made a short stop in the woods, making ready to start a fire and cook a lemur. It would be wise to stop him. Otherwise, he'll be searching the town for people from his tribe and you know, a reason for why he has wings now.

Sokka let out a weak 'ow' as the stick clonked him on the head. Even as he accepted the hug with a complete lack of enthusiasm. Sisters, yeesh. He carefully extracted himself from any potential humiliation.

"Of course I have. You, Gran-Gran, and everyone." He then looked over her shoulder and frowned. "... so you have them, too."
waterbraids: (oh. well. but you see they're all dead.)

"The wings?" Katara frowned. "I know. Everyone here does."

She swallowed and tried to keep her voice steady, "I think we're a really long way from home."
swordbends: (Oh really)

He'd seen the signs. Don't try to remove the wings. Beware the barrier. He was determined to just find his way home, but he already knew that they couldn't just walk back.

"... yeah." He couldn't deny the distance. It was too warm for that. But that thought made him chillier than any blizzard back home. "But we're from the South Pole. So at least it's easy to know what direction to head, right?"

That sounded wonderful and... even Katara knew it was too good to be true.

"I think it would be, if... if we were in one of the other nations. Have you seen the houses they have here?" It wasn't like anything she'd ever even heard of - it wasn't like anything on their... on their world.

"Well... it's probably the Earth Kingdom, right? I mean, it's been a long time since Gran-Gran was out of the South Pole, right? Maybe things changed."

Changed to include wings. It was ridiculous and he realized he was being stupidly optimistic.

"... but there's supposed to be a barrier."
waterbraids: (oh. well. but you see they're all dead.)

[personal profile] waterbraids 2013-09-24 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
"A barrier?" She frowned. "What kind of barrier?"
swordbends: (I like where this is going)

[personal profile] swordbends 2013-09-25 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"I dunno. Just a barrier." He looked up towards one of the taller buildings. "I bet we could see it if we were high enough."
waterbraids: (concerned)

[personal profile] waterbraids 2013-09-27 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
"Why should whether or not we're high up make any difference?" Katara peered at the sky. "I don't see anything but... clouds."
swordbends: (Oh really)

[personal profile] swordbends 2013-09-28 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
"Well we're not going to look up. We're going to look over and see how tall the barrier is."

Or find any places that it might look weakest. He was, after all, expecting some kind of stone wall. Not an invisible force field.

"Alright," Katara said. "Then let's go see how to get to the top of one of those things."

"Stairs, obviously." And so Sokka, as always, led the way. There was one not far from them, so he headed to that one. It was only as he got in front of it that it began to sink in just how big it was. Looking towards the top made him cringe as he imagined being that high in the air.
waterbraids: (how the heck does this work?)

[personal profile] waterbraids 2013-10-06 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
Katara, typically, was not bothered by that prospect at all. "What is that thing made out of?"

Sokka came up beside the building and knocked the edge of the building with his knuckles. He shrugged.

"Some kind of weird rocks, I guess."

"Nothing about this place makes any sense," Katara said. The briefest pause and a determined look. "Let's go inside so we can see more."

And she starts towards the door. Boldly.

Once they were inside, Sokka was struck by the lamps on the ceiling.

"Wow. They really burn the oil hot here, don't they?"

[personal profile] waterbraids 2013-10-09 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah." Katara frowned, staring at the same lamps her brother had pointed out. "...but they don't really flicker like flames."
swordbends: (It's a rock)

"This place is weird."

He was curious, but they had a mission. The weird lanterns could wait. The stairs were right there and he at least knew what those were. So he started heading up them.

"I woke up in a house," Katara said as she followed Sokka up the stairs. "A house like the kind that you hear about in the Earth Kingdom."
