Sokka the 73rd - [Action/Voice]

[The house was demolished. And apparently it didn't have the decency to start putting itself together again. Not to mention the whole town was soggy. Most of Sokka's stuff in his room had been damaged. Some of it was salvageable, much of it he had to just throw out. His important valuables were in the basement and though there was a few inches of water down there, his stuff was up high and out of reach. Still, another mess to clean. At least there were two waterbenders in the house to clean that up. For a lover of stuff, Sokka was pretty put out by it. He hadn't been able to sleep in his room because of it. In a way though, he couldn't be upset. It felt right. Like starting over.

And then there was the smithy. Or what was left of it. The whole thing was rubble now. He wasn't even sure if there was a point in trying to pick through it. Best to wait until the Malnosso fixed it, right? It was freeing up his schedule considerably, anyway. At least he was back to his normal practice schedule in the mornings. Even if two straight weeks of combat had left him... weary of it, to say the least. All the same. He found himself to be glad to be back in Luceti. Back in the library, studying his alchemy. Sure, he lost all his notes and would have to start over, but it would be easier since he already knew what needed to be done again. Still. There was so much to go over.]

A guy can't leave for a few weeks without the town getting demolished, huh? Anyway. So uh. A lot of stuff has happened this past week. If anyone wants to, you know, spare some of the good details? I'll be around. Interested. And if you want? I can tell you all about space. Which was pretty great.

[Very around. Like hanging out in the plaza around. No smithy kind of leaves him with no daytime hangout spot. Especially without Suki to spend time with. So besides his training and time at the library, he's very much a man with nothing to do. Evidenced by the fact he's sitting at a bench near the fountain, lazily sprawled out as he counts his one hundredth consecutive hit on a paddle ball. It's uncanny how good he actually is with it.]

Big. And empty. But I'll tell you the more interesting part first.

[He crosses his arms and looks thoughtful for a moment. Trying to rationalize his ideas and theories.]

It was emptier than it should be. There was this planet, the moon, the sun, and a few other planets. But that was it. There was nothing else out there. Just black.

Nothing else? Not even stars or asteroids or space debris?

[ Yuri actually sounds surprised for a second, because what the hell? ]

Asteroids maybe, but no stars. There's nothing outside this system.

[Maybe it didn't matter. But there'd always been that faint idea that maybe one of those stars in the sky was his home.]

That isn't even possible, is it? Where are all the things we can see from the ground here?

This guy, Davis, he made it sound like they were put there for us. Because an empty night sky would bother us. It's apparently that way anywhere else I've been. The mountains, the farm, even the ocean. Like they're just illusions.

[He frowns, looking away.]

It makes sense. Over a year ago, the Malnosso managed to stop people from arriving for awhile. Temporarily. Catherine- the blue guy, he changed the stars in the sky to make it spell something. If the stars were just a trick, it would be easy to change the way they look.

So are they an illusion on the surface of the barrier or do they exist outside of it?

[ She knows that people have been on missions and drafts and whatnot outside of the barrier, just not in space before. So if they'd still seen the stars outside, then that means that it's somehow in the atmosphere. Which.. would mean the whole world and everything in it can be controlled, even down to the appearance of the skies. ]

The same guy who everyone tried to help out against the Malnosso's orders and he ended up dying a few days ago?

It's probably a Shift or on the other barriers or-- [Hold the phone. Wait.]

He died!?

That was while you guys were still up in space, wasn't it? It seems like the rest of the Malnosso were trying to keep him alive and he was avoiding that for some reason. I didn't see the post until a couple of hours after, so it seemed like he was already gone so I didn't get to ask him anything.

Weird. [He doesn't know what to make of it. Weren't they trying to keep him alive?] I think Nami was supposed to be with him. I'll have to ask her later.

I don't know. [She sighs, then crosses her arms, eyes closed ] Looking on what it said on the post he made it looks like it was what he was trying to get done and something about being young again, so. If you hear anything from her more than what was there, let me know.

[That makes sense. He was pretty old? So if he died from old age, is that what's supposed to happen. Hm.]

I'll let you know. Besides that, we were fighting with the Malnosso. They really know what they're doing. They've got a lot of firepower and some of them are really powerful. If you guys ever have to fight them, they're not going to be easy to beat. There's a lot more of them than there are of us.

I was never expecting it to be easy.

[ She pauses for a second. ]

I do have a question though. You know how people have limited abilities here right? Do people ever regain certain ones that they can't do here right now? Is there some kind of quest or spirit cave you can go to and unlock them or something?

[ She's used to a lot of game jokes and comparisons, bear with her. There's a reason they call the people in the background of their world NPCs. ]

Uh. I don't think it works like that. [A frown as he thinks.] Although I remember about two years ago... this woman from outside the barrier, her name is Rem, she offered to help people be able to 'summon' again. Some power to call out creatures from another world or something. It's the last time we ever saw her though.

Sounds like she probably didn't get a chance to teach anyone. I was just wondering since there's this thing I can do back in my world that involves restructuring atoms. As long as I've got a good memory for the parts of anything, I can make it out of dirt. I assume it'd work if I saw something here, like the thing Scorpius took me out with or anyone's weapons. [ She's leaning back a little bit against the back of the couch. ] I can't do it here though. [ And she tried. : | Luckily no one was around to see her playing in the dirt. ]

I don't know about that. [It sounds like a really odd ability though. Who knew?] It may be that the Shift that keeps powers weaker here is preventing you from doing anything. You won't know for sure until you can get out of the barrier and try, though. That means going on a draft or a mission. [Though it does remind him of the alchemy he's learning.]

[ She shakes her head, sighing. ] Unless I could get myself separated from the group for a while it wouldn't be something I could manage. If I were a member of Guild, maybe, but I'm not practiced enough at it to get anything done beyond a pinwheel in less than an hour.

[A pinwheel in half an hour? If that's how good she is at full power, it's not wonder it doesn't work. Huh. Interesting. He leaned forward a little, watching her closely.]

Separate from the group, then. They can do without their leader for a week, right? You need to know first hand what your strengths will look like once you're out there. So do it when the stakes aren't as high.

[ Canonly, even for the guys who are good at it, it might take more than a day to get a single gun made. Ammo is easier, but you can't make anything beyond the parts. Even if she caught on really quickly compared to everyone else, it's not something that's easy to do. ]

Any generic missions you'd suggest to try it on?

Something at the farmlands. It's not hard to get signed up for stuff like that and it's not very dangerous. Plus there's lots of open space to practice stuff off hours. And, I won't lie, I really love the food they feed us out there. Almost all our food comes from there and they have really good cooks out there.

[There's a faint smile on his face as he thinks about his many trips to the farm. As much as he complains about going there, it's actually something he kind of enjoys.]

I might put you out of business if I can figure out how to do it, you know. [ She's teasing. Like she'd make weapons for people out of the SSS even if she could. :'D ]

Have you seen the smithy? I'm already out of business! [Though it would be disappointing if she could do that. He already feels like Ed's alchemy negates his construction skills. He ends up looking a little exasperated anyway.]

You'll get it rebuilt eventually, don't worry. [ She's finally sitting up, looking at him confidently ] I wouldn't do that anyway. I'm caffeinating Luceti, not arming it.

With the coffee shop, right? That's your top secret plan?

No, but the top secret plan was SSS stuff and it didn't actually succeed. So it isn't that important to know. The coffee shop is a very out-in-the-open plan.

[Yeah, he figured that. Seeing as she had been so open about it. All the same...]
