Sokka the 73rd - [Action/Voice]

[The house was demolished. And apparently it didn't have the decency to start putting itself together again. Not to mention the whole town was soggy. Most of Sokka's stuff in his room had been damaged. Some of it was salvageable, much of it he had to just throw out. His important valuables were in the basement and though there was a few inches of water down there, his stuff was up high and out of reach. Still, another mess to clean. At least there were two waterbenders in the house to clean that up. For a lover of stuff, Sokka was pretty put out by it. He hadn't been able to sleep in his room because of it. In a way though, he couldn't be upset. It felt right. Like starting over.

And then there was the smithy. Or what was left of it. The whole thing was rubble now. He wasn't even sure if there was a point in trying to pick through it. Best to wait until the Malnosso fixed it, right? It was freeing up his schedule considerably, anyway. At least he was back to his normal practice schedule in the mornings. Even if two straight weeks of combat had left him... weary of it, to say the least. All the same. He found himself to be glad to be back in Luceti. Back in the library, studying his alchemy. Sure, he lost all his notes and would have to start over, but it would be easier since he already knew what needed to be done again. Still. There was so much to go over.]

A guy can't leave for a few weeks without the town getting demolished, huh? Anyway. So uh. A lot of stuff has happened this past week. If anyone wants to, you know, spare some of the good details? I'll be around. Interested. And if you want? I can tell you all about space. Which was pretty great.

[Very around. Like hanging out in the plaza around. No smithy kind of leaves him with no daytime hangout spot. Especially without Suki to spend time with. So besides his training and time at the library, he's very much a man with nothing to do. Evidenced by the fact he's sitting at a bench near the fountain, lazily sprawled out as he counts his one hundredth consecutive hit on a paddle ball. It's uncanny how good he actually is with it.]

Just because a lot of people have done it doesn't make it any less difficult. If you think about all of the people here, then think about all of the people where they're from that didn't do something like that, it's still a small number. It's just concentrated.

We don't exactly have gods in my world. But I did knock out a huge knowledge spirit once.

I'll bet you spiritually knock out knowledge all the time.

What can I say? We all need hobbies.

I'm not sure that's a good thing, but whatever helps you sleep at night.

[A shrug.]

Anyway, from what I know about God, the whole idea seems pretty overrated. [Especially if God is supposed to be Haruhi Suzumiya.] So I don't see how it would make it any more impressive.

If God's a supernatural being who controls everything in the world, or at least what they're a god of, then that should count for something. I only care about the one who's in charge of the afterlife.

So, for example, beating the Malnosso here would be a big deal then. Gods or not.

Basically, unless there's a God here that needs to have his ass kicked.

You know, I generally don't meet people with such a grudge against God.

You don't generally meet people who lead rebellions from the afterlife either. Wow, Sokka, you're meeting all kinds of new people!

[He picks at his teeth, yawning a bit.]

Yeah, I guess that's something.

Anyway, I haven't met people who've taken out an entire country before so it's even.

I don't know. I mean... have you actually won yet, or...?

No. I don't even know if I will. The people from my world here who are or were ahead of me weren't there. The only thing I do know is when I get back, I disappear. Can't do that unless I let go of everything.

[Well so much for rubbing in her lack of victory.]

What happens when you disappear and let go?

I stop existing. My memories don't exist anywhere besides right here, right now. My soul gets reincarnated and someone else gets to live. I don't know what happens, but something to get me to accept that has to be pretty big, right?

... yeah. I guess it would have to.

[He's not even sure what he believes himself about the afterlife. After so many close calls with death, though... It's hard not to think about it. Even when death means nothing here.]

So I like to think I succeed. I hope I do, anyway. Anything less than that wouldn't... come close to making anything okay.

And if you found out otherwise?

If there's something less than that that could make anything feel right, then that's that. I don't think there is though. It's not like I tell everyone I'm dead here because I'm expecting to stick around for a long time if I go home.

There's a girl I know. [He won't say who.] She spent ten years as a ghost before she showed up here. Which, I guess, won't change if she goes back again.

Mhm. I know a couple of people who are dead back home too. That's why I don't blame anyone for wanting to stay here.
