Sokka the 71st - [Action/Voice]

[Today, Sokka starts out with some simple messages for the journal.]

I know this is pretty late, but... Luceti has a way of causing delays. I got a lot of orders two months ago and they're all finally finished. If you haven't already picked them up, then... well, you should do that. I think you'll be pleased. [ooc: if you want to assume they already picked this stuff up a while ago, that's fine too!]

So, now that it's nice and warm these days, how do people feel about... fishing? I just made my own fishing rod, so I'm thinking tomorrow morning? Fishing time. On the river, maybe. Or I could bring out one of the boats and head to the lake. Some company wouldn't hurt. As long as you're not the noisy kind. I uh, actually want to catch some fish.

20th

[For today, Sokka works his regular shift at the smithy. From morning until the afternoon, he's at the smithy. There's not much to do now that he's done, so he straightens things out, hangs out on the couch with an alchemy book in his face, or if he gets bored with that... he reaches for his fishing rod under the couch and does a few practice casts. If he thinks no one will catch him doing it. Winry wouldn't approve. 8|

In the afternoon, he'll be around House 56 in the front and back yard, with a can of dirt and pushing over rocks and stones looking for worms underneath. A good fisherman needs his bait, after all! And he wants to be ready for tomorrow!]

21st

[As soon as his sparring practice is over, Sokka sets himself up on the southernmost bridge in town. Sure, it's a little gloomy today, but still time to fish. He has a chair, he has a fishing line, he has a cold box to put fish in, and he has not shortage of snacks and drinks. About ten minutes into his fishing, he gets drenched. Watch as poor Sokka has to gather up his stuff and flee back home. Later when he has an umbrella, he dejectedly heads to the smithy to put in a few hours. And then a few more hours later at the library to do alchemy research. No fishing today. :(]

22nd

[After a rainy day and rainy night, Sokka wakes up to A BIG BEAUTIFUL RAINBOW. He'll try to rush through his morning training, that way he can head to the river west of his house and ready a canoe. With a clear sky above, he's going out to the lake for fishing. There's room enough for two, for anyone eager to join. Following that, he'll be out on the southern lake fishing, cooking fish on the shore for lunch, and enjoying a good solid day off. STRESS FREE.]

[At this point, Sokka doesn't even need to ask. He just fixes Buffy with a look that says, "Do I want to know?"]

[ she tilts her fish closer to the flame. impatient. always a downfall of hers. ]

It's a toy. Polly Pocket. [ ... ] Did you have a favourite toy, growing up?

I had Boomerang. Does that count? [Sokka frowns disapprovingly. She'll ruin a perfectly good fish that way.]

[ correct her then, man! ]

Probably. Definitely. Not the same boomerang, though? [ because yours is kinda scary and threatening, sokka. ]

Well I had a different one before my dad left for the war.

[But it still gave him plenty of time to get good with it.]

... you'll ruin your fish that way, you know.

[herotypical]

[ dutifully -- and perhaps a little sheepishly -- she lifts her meal away from the heat. wrinkling her nose. ]

How old were you?

[markofthewise]

Thirteen. I was a year too young to go with him, so I was left to protect the village. [Or that's what he tells himself. There's a chance even after passing his right of manhood, Hakoda would still insisted he stayed for Katara's sake. And the village's.]

[herotypical]

[ thirteen's a year (or more) too young for a lot of things, she thinks. ]

Big job?

[markofthewise]

Kind of. There was only about a dozen of us left.

[But it wasn't the job that hurt. It was. Being left behind. That was painful.]

[herotypical]

...Wow. I didn't realize the numbers'd be so small.

[markofthewise]

The Fire Nation didn't leave much behind. If Aang hadn't showed up, I'm not sure how much longer the South Pole would have lasted.

[herotypical]

Even with the Avatar's help -- [ oh look, she's learning the lingo ] -- twelve people can't exactly rebuild a whole village on their lonesome.

[ so what else happened? ]

[markofthewise]

Well, the rest of the men came back. I wasn't home long enough for anything to start changing, but waterbenders from the North Pole came to help us rebuild. But without the Fire Nation doing raids, we'd be able to unite with the other surviving villages and rebuild. There were lots of us, all over the place. But it was dangerous for us to be in big groups.

[herotypical]

[ she peers at her fish -- wondering how much longer it'll take. she'll ask sokka in a moment. ]

Have you been back? Since? To the South Pole?

[markofthewise]

I was there before I showed up here. [His fish has been cooking a bit longer and he brings it out, twirling it to ensure it's nice and done. Looks good to him.] But I didn't go back this past month. I was at Winry's home.

[herotypical]

...What was it like? Sometimes, her home sounds so different from mine. And then others? Not so much.

[markofthewise]

... there isn't much to say. We had to stay in doors the entire time.

[herotypical]

What? Why?

[ oh and... ] Do you think this is done? [ waggling her fish on a stick at him. ]

[markofthewise]

[Sokka nods. Knock yourself out Buffy.]

She was in hiding from the military, so she wouldn't leave the house. And, well, I wasn't going to just leave her there.

[herotypical]

I didn't realize her back-home situation was so precarious.

[markofthewise]

Well, apparently in her world, something called the Promised Day is arriving. Which is basically some kind of end the world plot.

[herotypical]

Oh. Happy happy joy joy. How I love those.

[markofthewise]

Well, they probably stop it anyway. Who's ever heard of a world where everyone ends up dying, right?

[herotypical]

Sergeant Doyle.

[ she takes an experimental bite of fish. chews. considers. ] He comes from a somewhere where...things haven't really worked out. I think.
