Sokka the 60th - [Action/Voice]

[Today? Sokka is at the smithy. Honestly, are we really surprised by this? Seriously, this is kind of his thing. He is waiting for Winry, though. He wants her input on a project.]

It's been two weeks since the equinox. And we're finally getting a break from all the rain. Funny how the new season just kind of Springs up on you like that, am I right?

[Oh Sokka, you are hi-lar-ious. He wipes a tear from his eye even, pleased that he managed to let such a well-seasoned joke be released into the wild. Oh, speaking of wild.]

No but seriously, now that it's getting that time of year, how many people out here hunt and fish? I know, I know. Boo hoo, the talking animals. I've heard it. But is there anyone here besides me who still does that kind of thing?

[Also, lately Sokka is keeping a new little trinket in one of his pockets. It's something he intends to give to someone at the right time. After the small blunder of forgetting to bring it on Suki's birthday, he's keeping it all the time on him now. So even as he's walking away from home, he'll often put his hand in his pocket to make sure it's still there. He probably won't show it to just anyone, though.]

Oh, please. No more metal parts. I'm keen on being flesh and blood.

Well I'm not exactly saying losing an arm is a good idea or anything, but come on. An automail arm would be pretty cool. Especially if it had secret weapons on it and stuff.

I'm pretty sure that I'm weapony enough without the funky go-go-gadget arm.

Don't underestimate how cool a secret weapon is. It doesn't even matter if you ever use it. Imagine you get captured and locked up and you have to unload your weapons. The moment you reveal that hidden piece of deadly metal, they know you mean business.

See? That's the wacky beauty of already being the weapon.

Yeah, but that doesn't look as impressive, that's all I'm saying.

I'm gonna try and not take that like an insult, Sokka.

I don't know -- metal arms? They'd set off metal detectors. Flying'd be a bitch.

... metal detectors, you say? [This sounds intriguing to him.]

Gadgets. They detect metal -- used for security checks and beach-combing alike.

That sounds useful... I wonder how I could get one. [He doesn't even have any metal to find, it just sounds like an amazingly useful gadget to him.]

Honestly? I wouldn't even know where to get one back home.

Really? I figured everyone would have one of those, just in case.

Just in case of emergency beach-combing?

I'm not sure what beaches have to do with it, but you guys lots of metal stuff in your world, right? You must lose them enough.

Combers use them on beaches to sorta...try and find valuable things.

But why would that kind of stuff be on a beach? Wouldn't it be better to use them to find veins of metal in mines?

Oh, sure. For the raw stuff. But what about all the neat little treasures that get lost at sea or tossed over cliffs? They've gotta wash up somewhere.

Yeah, but the odds of actually finding anything like that seems pretty unlikely, unless you know where to look.

Which is why only recluse crazies have those kinds of metal detectors while the rest of us go back to our normal, non-beach-combing lives.
