[Today? Sokka is at the smithy. Honestly, are we really surprised by this? Seriously, this is kind of his thing. He is waiting for Winry, though. He wants her input on a project.]

It's been two weeks since the equinox. And we're finally getting a break from all the rain. Funny how the new season just kind of Springs up on you like that, am I right?

[Oh Sokka, you are hi-lar-ious. He wipes a tear from his eye even, pleased that he managed to let such a well-seasoned joke be released into the wild. Oh, speaking of wild.]

No but seriously, now that it's getting that time of year, how many people out here hunt and fish? I know, I know. Boo hoo, the talking animals. I've heard it. But is there anyone here besides me who still does that kind of thing?

[Also, lately Sokka is keeping a new little trinket in one of his pockets. It's something he intends to give to someone at the right time. After the small blunder of forgetting to bring it on Suki's birthday, he's keeping it all the time on him now. So even as he's walking away from home, he'll often put his hand in his pocket to make sure it's still there. He probably won't show it to just anyone, though.]

Don't make me beg. It's very humiliating and mostly just uncomfortable for all involved.

[AND THUS... a few minutes later, Sokka will arrive and find a seat at the bar counter. Now then, where is Buffy?]

[ she's out back grabbing some fresh bottles of whiskey but it doesn't take long for her to return into view. she balances them precariously a moment before selecting homes for them on the shelf.

then, as she turns: ] Hey. How very prompt. Can I get you anything before you proceed to wow me with your tale of Winry-cheering?

Sure. How about... [And then he clears his throat.]

Coffee. [He was recently introduced to it by Ranka. He decided he likes it.]

Oh, how very adult. [ she teases 'cause she loves, sokka. really. ]

Black? Cream? Sugar? Whipped topping? Sprinkles?

[Or because she's mean. He deflates a little.]

Five sugars, plenty of cream. Uhh, no on the other stuff.

[ all is not lost! ]

Huh. Exactly how I take mine. Your taste is impeccable.

Right... who knew we had so much in common?

[While she fetches that, he's going to pull out the necklace. He doesn't put it out in open view, instead just turning it over in his hand.]

[ it won't take her too long. she can make this in her sleep -- she frequently has to, as that tends to be the best time to call upon a mug of coffee.

but soon she turns back with the drink in hand and she sets it daintily on a coaster before him. ] There you go.

Thanks. [He takes a sip of the coffee... ooh, tasty. He's tried making his own. It didn't work. He actually hasn't have any since Ranka made him some.]

So... you wanted to see what made Winry so happy, huh?

Please. I could use a vicariously-flavoured pick me up in regards to someone else's happy-making.

[He sets out a necklace. It's very similar to Katara's necklace, only with this emblem instead. He dangles it off his finger.]

I showed her this.

[ at first, buffy focuses simply on an appreciation for the thing. it is certainly nice and she has a fine eye for accessories. as, apparently, does sokka. ]

Wait...you showed it to her? You didn't give it to her? So why was she so happy?

What? It's not for Winry! It's for Suki!

[Huff. Then he remembers that what, they use rings in other worlds, don't they?]

... it's a betrothal necklace.
