[Sokka has some messages to knock out of the way. He doesn't bother with a filter for the first one, mainly because he feels like being somewhat of a jerk and making light of Haruhi's ridiculous relationship with her 'minions'. In spite of that, Sokka's tone is pretty flat. There's no excitement here and it's pretty obvious through the message something is bothering him.]

Hey Haruhi, feel free to send Naoki over. He can do his thing now. [Oh wait...] Uh, after Leon takes a look over it, I guess.

[This last one he almost backs out of doing. But it's been a few days now and things haven't changed. Maybe this will help.]

So... hypothetically speaking, how do you make up it up to someone you really care about for something that really hurt them when what you did... there was nothing you could do about it?

[With things so awkward at home with Suki, Sokka has been spending less time there. It's hard to spend time with your girlfriend when she's still upset with you, but being polite about it. So this leaves him working at the smithy for longer hours, actually doing homework at the library, and once more taking part in his neverending quest to find a hat that really says Sokka to him. Through all this, he is accompanied by a certain cheeky lemur hanging around on top of his head, shoulder, or getting into things he shouldn't.

He will, at least, drag himself home for dinner. Delicious, awkward dinner.]

[The moment was too tense for either one. But he does make a mental note not to justify this by blaming the Malnosso. He'll take the fall on this one.]

[Even though Sokka'a being vague and ... totally unenthusiastic, Leon has a feeling he knows what he's talking about.] All done?

[...Okay, so it's a little like when she didn't tell Silvie she was engaged, maybe? That could be it. Charlotte isn't sure about this because she ignored that and just tried to do better by Silvie in future. She bites her lip and then nods]

What do you mean that there's nothing they could do about it?

[Sokka will just be all business now.]

Yeah, the casing and stuff should be done. Naoki is gonna take the village half to the barracks and I should have someone who can take the rest to the desert er- beach fort.

Uh. I- err, they? [Wait, he didn't stage it as being a hypothetical someone else, why is he trying to play it that way?] I was stuck in a situation that was pretty much forced on me.

So the situation hurt them, or something you did hurt them?

[Because she's still not quite following.]

Dare I even ask for any more details? I mean...you're only going to get the vaguest of advice if you give a vague scenario to begin with.

[Huh. Usually the problems came when a man tried to say more than he should, but that didn't seem to be the case with this kid. That probably meant this was a serious situation.]

Sorry. I don't like doing this normally, but I need to know a little more about what happened if I'm going to help. General advice only works when someone isn't really hurt.

Listen... this sounds really similar to how I felt about Riku for a long time. And when it's something like this... I think all you can do is prove you really mean it and just be there for the other person for as long as it takes.

Even if the situation wouldn't have happened somewhere else, it still did here, and you're here so... what matters is what you did, not where it happened.
