Sokka the 51st - [Voice/Action]

[This morning, the Sokka that wakes up is not the one he was before. However as he gets out of bed, he soon recognizes the room he's in. He remembered it from two years ago... how did he get back here? How was he going to get back? With a sigh, he turns to his journal.]

What's the month and cycle here?

[Best to find out how long he's been gone. He soon finds some clothes that aren't too small on him and gets dressed, heading out to see what's changed since he's been gone from Luceti. Already he knows something is wrong. If he was sent home and brought back, all this stuff shouldn't be here. Maybe some people from home are here. Or maybe... maybe his sister is still alive here. He swallows hard as he exits his room, going to explore the house.

Later in the day, he'll be roaming town, now educated about what exactly is going on. He isn't too happy about it, but he can at least catch up with some old friends before he's sent home.]

((ooc: Avatar Sokka again! From his perspective, he left for his own world in August and has been gone for two years. He has all of his memories from prior to AU, thought it may take awhile for him to remember some people. Anyone regular Sokka met after August is completely new to him. Also, replies will come from

avatarsokka. Sokka is now eighteen, taller (5'10), and more built than his icons imply (Earthbending does that to you). He has since fixed his shoop beard.))

Maybe not, but... I still remember everything that she remembers. So I think... she's a part of me now.

[Like you're a part of Sokka. I can love you for that, I think.] And I know she'd want to thank you.

[The smallest, almost pained smile tilts her lips.] You were very kind to her, and you were the first waterbender she'd ever seen. You gave her hope.

[Like he is probably a part of her Sokka now. And he probably hates that. Who can blame him?]

I hope it helps her. [Because cynically, he's sure she went home and all he did for her didn't do anything. Just like how all his time in Luceti didn't prepare him for what would happen when he went home.]

Me too. [Katara does not like to think about that child. She hopes that she'll be all right.

...he's so sober. And he hasn't gone running out of the room yet. And she can see the faint outline of that scar.]

So... [Best to establish a baseline, Katara. Find out what he knows.] ...what happened to you?

[Okay, once again, concern trumps logic.]

[... ah, he wonders how much to tell her. Already it's just so weird talking to her. It just makes him think of all the times he could have talked to his sister, mother, and father... but never did. Never bothered. He lets his shoulders slump and rests his elbows on his knees.]

I don't know what happened back then, but I put that version of you to bed. She was scared to sleep alone, so I sat in bed beside her, until eventually I fell asleep too. When I woke up... I was home. All of Luceti? Just a vague dream I could barely remember.

[Which explains so little, doesn't it?]

[She nods encouragingly.] Yuber had attacked. There had been a fire.

[She didn't react well to fire.]

Yeah, it was my first time I was ever in the Avatar State. [And far from the last time, either.]

It's been two years since then.

...That's a long time.

[She's waiting, but not for long.]

Yeah, it is.

[He's in no hurry to talk about the details.]

...Sokka.

[He seems so far away and... hurting.] Come sit here.

[And she shifts, patting the space next to her.]

[Maybe if it was his Katara, he'd get up and sit over there. But then, his sister never would have seemed so concerned, would she?]

I'm fine. [He stands.] Don't worry about me. This isn't even the right Luceti for me. I'll be out of your hair soon.

[...the right Luceti?]

Don't be an idiot. [She snaps back, automatically.] You're here now, and this experiment should have been over last week when they made you a girl. But it's not, so for however long you're in here, you're still family. I don't care what Sokka you are. You're still my brother.

[And my responsibility, one way or another.]

[... he was a girl? For a moment, his mind forgets this whole situation and starts to think about how kinky that is. But he quickly snaps back to the situation at hand. She managed to cut right to the heard of the problem. He's still her brother. And she's still his sister. He manages a small smile.]

You haven't changed at all, have you?

[She's not sure how she feels about that.] It hasn't been two years for me. You've changed, though, haven't you.

Yeah, I have. [He turns away at that, staring at the wall instead.]

You told me about your world... and how bad off it was. I had a hard time imagining living in a world like that. [His crosses his arm, glancing back at her.] I don't have to anymore.

[There is a small part of her mind that reminds her 'It is far too early for this.'

...she recognizes that weight on those shoulders.]

I'm sorry.

[That's not said as to a stranger - these are things that she hates. And his innocence had been one of the best things about him, even if it had made him an idiot.]

[At first he doesn't say anything. What else is there to say? But at length, he finally makes eye contact again.]

Could you stand up?

...Sure. [And throwing off her covers, she does just that, taking a step away from her bed.]

[And for a moment... he's just going to imagine that it's his sister, the one he grew up with. He takes a step forward and pulls her into a hug.]

I'm sorry.

[Um. Okay. Unexpected hugging is unexpected. Even her Sokka hesitates to initiate this kind of physical affection. And it's usually over quickly, a brief reassurance that all is well.

...this isn't like that. His words are very quiet, and she can sense how much he's hurting.

So she hugs him back tightly, and doesn't say anything at all.

I'm here. It's okay.]

I should have been able to save you.

[... but he couldn't. Maybe it doesn't mean anything to say it to someone who isn't his sister, but maybe somehow it would get back to her. Maybe. He dries his eyes before pulling away, speaking up again.]

Sorry.

[Okay, something's seriously not right.

...would the other Katara expect Sokka to save her? ...he is the Avatar. He was supposed to save everybody. But he was also such a jerk...]

Sokka. When it comes down to it, the only person who's responsible for saving me is me. And I can't imagine a single one of me who'd disagree.

[She reaches out to touch his shoulder.] What happened?

[It's not that easy to believe that. He wishes it was, but...]

You... [It's so hard to say it, even after this long.] It was one year ago. The building collapsed and you... [didn't make it.]

...okay, that's really weird.

[No wonder he came in to check on her.] I got killed by a building? After everything else?

[She's really just insulted. ~~In order to push away the weird and horror.~~] That's a terrible way to die. It couldn't have been something - I don't know, worthwhile? I was just standing there?

[His tone gets harder, his eyes clenched and his fists tightened.]

It wasn't an accident. [And so far, the bastards had got away with it.[
