[Nothing like peaceful summer days after bloody warfare. After having to avoid being killed by a giant rampaging reindeer the day before, Sokka has been a little slow starting the day since he was returned, opting to simply collapse in bed there and more or less die there. Village or not, he was rather attached to his bed. The one in the hotel while comfortable, was way too big. It's not until well past noon he decides to return to the world at large. This means he needs to go see people. His first stop will be the check on Raphael, which means a visit to Donatello. He unfortunately got the worst of it.

Second is a visit to Winry. He'll try her house first (it is a Sunday), then check the smithy failing that, which means he'll be able to see Edward too. Having already spoken to Brook about Chopper, he can bypass a trip to the Straw Hats and goes looking for San... for a few hours at least. Eventually he'll head down to the river to check his canoes. While he's down there, he leave a simple voice message on his journal for everyone else.]

So, what did I miss?

You look like you're in good health. [That is to say, he's glad you're okay.]

Well, not good good health. I'm a little sore. [He rotates his right arm.] Swinging swords and throwing boomerangs for an entire weak... it can wear a guy out.

[Better than death or some sort of mortal wounding. Edward settles back down at the front counter; no reason he can't work and talk at the same time.]

I've never used a boomerang, but I sympathize with the sword problem. If you're so tired, shouldn't you be resting at home?

I'll be fine. I wanted to check up on the smithy anyway. [He makes a show of looking around it, standing up and walking over to one counter and lifting a small knife and looking under it.] Yup, the place seems to be in one piece.

[You get a look for that, and crossed arms. HMPH.] Of course it is, it's my smithy. [Sort of. It was half his. Not so much anymore. DAMMIT LET'S NOT BE TECHNICAL OKAY]

[Sokka glances back at Edward.] Did you stage a takeover while I was gone or something? I thought this was our smithy.

[....Yes well.]

You were gone. Someone had to keep things in line.

You mean someone not named Winry, right? [His tone makes it obvious he's teasing. This isn't something that bothers him.]

Oh, is there someone by that name working in my smithy? [See, he can do it too! Sometimes. Almost. When he doesn't fail.]

Why yes, yes there is. She was your boss last week at her smithy. Which I've decided to reclaim. I might call it "Sokka and Winry's Awesome Smithy" now. Maybe add a little "and co." at the end. Real tiny letters. [It's on now. IT'S ON.]

[He can't compete with this for long, sob.] I don't think there's enough space in the plaza for another smithy. And the competition is rather skilled.

Is that so? Maybe you should go ask them for a job. They could probably teach you a thing or two. [Now he's just on a roll.]

[ >B| LISTEN YOU----'re joking again, goddammit. Okay think. Think.

...He can't think of a comeback.]

You're fired.

[NEXT TIME, GADGET, NEXT TIME.]

From where? Sokka and Winry's Awesome Smithy? You don't even work there, yet. But I am willing to hire you in as an apprentice. You know... for sweeping floors and stuff. [Somebody stop him.]

Try to give me a broom and I wouldn't be sweeping the floor, that much is certain. [YOU'RE PUSHING IT]

Right. Tell you what, how about we all stay here at our smithy instead. If we start competing, then we'll have to cut prices and we're already doing all of this for free.

[...Hmm... an acceptable compromise.] Very well. Working for free is bad enough, I can't imagine giving up more for customers.

Good. Welcome back to the Slash & Crash, Ed. I'll have a repair job for you later. Nothing too serious. The chainmail held up really well, but there's a small tear on one side.

[What, WHAT.] You already damaged it?

[He offers an apologetic shrug.]

We were ambushed on the last day by a huge group. Compared to some of the others, I was pretty lucky.

[Rrrgh. RRRGH. Okay breathe.] ...You should leave it with me while I'm still working on chainmail.

[He never knew you cared so much, Edward. About the chainmail, that is.]

I'll drop by again a little later, then. It's back at the house.

[He takes his armor seriously.]

...Maybe I should add more support to vital areas.

All my areas are vital areas! Anyway, that's why I wear my leather underneath it.

[So he's not too worried about it. It's not like there's a draft every day.]
