[Sokka's journal is writing out some strange stuff, none of it that Sokka wrote. Or at least, doesn't think he wrote. As he goes over it, he voices his comments at some of the really weird and cryptic messages it's giving him.]

Sokka Thunderaxe Bored today. Don't feel like working at the smithy today. Guess I'll check up on what I've missed.

Well, tell me your full name, and I'll tell you. [If Frey happened to notice other conversations before this, he can see Sokka failing to even pronounce that full name.]

So how did you know my full name if you can’t even pronounce it?

It just showed up on the journal. I didn't write all that stuff.

Well, at least it isn't something else. It is a tad bit creepy, though. I don't usually go around giving out my full name.

Yeah, probably. And I can't blame you for that. [It's a MOUTHFULL. Isn't Sokka so polite?]

Well, after hearing someone mangle it enough times, you begin to just give up.

Someone called me 'Soh-kka' for the longest time once. It was pretty annoying.

It must have been. I doubt you could just shorten your name either.

No. But I can make it longer. And then tell people Sokka is the shorter version...

That seems like a lot of effort to go through for such a small thing.

Well it wouldn't be a small thing. It'd be a long and unwieldy name. Like trying to strap two spears together by the ends and trying to use them as nunchaku.

Who would do that, anyway? The... spear thing.

Well, see. I can never introduce myself as "I'm Sokka, but you can call me Sokka for short." [He's tried.]

But if I said to someone, "I'm Sokkadansenleechan Thunderaxe, but you can call me Sokka for short." You know what they'd do? They'd call me Sokka.

And nobody would do that with spears. Don't be silly.

I guess I'd have to correct them, then.

I suggested it as a hypothetical impossibility.

Probably, unless they figure it out on their own.

And it still seems really odd to mention it at all.

[Why does he have to explain this?]

Okay Frey, it's like this. I see this guy and he's dancing, but obviously he's horrible at it. I say, "You know what, I think a catgator would be better at dancing." Catgators can't actually dance, being as they are a quadruped incapable of standing on their hind legs. A dancing catgator is an impossible situation, but I mention it to make it obvious how horrible that man's dancing is.

In this case, I'm comparing a long and unwieldy name to something impossibly long and unwieldy. Do you get it now?
