Sokka the 17th - [Voice/Action]

[So after going around breaking hearts and fighting evil demons, Sokka has found a new hobby to get his mind off of how annoying Luceti can be. That hobby? Cooking!

Surprisingly enough, despite the fact he's used the smithy as his personal kitchen for the past few days, Sokka has managed to complete a batch of eel jerky (or rather, a dish of mán xiāng consisting of salt cured eel) that actually doesn't taste absolutely horrible. It's nothing exceptional, but it is rather tasty. He's set out a plate of the stuff in the smithy, along with some vinegar bowl in a display that looks nowhere near as nice as this picture. At the very least it looks edible. Anyone who for whatever reason decides to drop by the smithy today are more than welcome to try some of Sokka's latest cooking experiment. Otherwise he's going to be inviting people over the journal.]

Hey Sanji, Brook! I finished the eel jerky I told you about. If you want to drop by you can have some. Anyone else who wants some can drop by too, but it probably won't last long if everyone does, though.

Great! If all goes well, we should do it sometime this month.

I was thinking "outside" but if you think going to the barracks would be a better idea...

Mostly I was thinking of going somewhere that wouldn't have people. So maybe just behind the smithy would work.

Sure. Lead the way.

[markofthewise]

[And he'll do so, using a back door to lead them into a small area between the smithy, the clothing shop, and a nearby house. There's at least two or three trees in this small area, but its otherwise fairly open. Sokka will be staying behind Nash for this little demonstration.] Alright, impress me.

Not sure if I can. This is weighted a bit differently, so part of this is just figuring it out for myself.

[He says this as he tries a few experimental thrusts, but nothing that requires use of the blade's more unique properties.]

By all means, take your time. [Sokka will just cross his arms and wait until something cool happens.]

We'll try for that bit of branch over there. [He gestures with the sword-holding hand, it's not far off, but still several feet away from where he's standing. Nash sort of stares at the branch for a while, then brings his arm up to strike. Everything happens pretty quick, there isn't any showy technique or flashes of lighting, but the branch gets cut and the sword is back to normal almost before the eye can make out the transition. He switches the weapon to his off hand and shakes his wrist out, wincing.]

I sort of forgot about the recoil.

[And what seems rather unimpressive first, quickly catches Sokka's interest. His attempts at using the same blade had mostly resulted in him breaking a lot of things on accident. There's definitely some skill in seeing it used like that.]

Oh yeah, that definitely takes some getting used to.

I suppose it wouldn't hurt to try again...

((ooc: Sadly I really have no idea how the weapon works. My SuikoGaiden knowledge is very, very vague.))

You were trying to use it before?

(It's never really explained at all!! You can pretty much just make something up. There's a button on the side attached to a reservoir that can release poison or oil, and the original was cursed and magical and talked to Nash sometimes, but the technical details are all vague. Whip-swords don't make much sense anyway.)

Well I didn't want to give you a shoddy product that hadn't even been tested.

[Anyways, he'll hold out a hand to take it. The way Nash used it has given him some insight into it's proper usage.]

I don't know. That could have been pretty funny.

[But he's handing the thing over.]

[markofthewise]

You might have accused me of trying to rig it to cut your hand off.

[Sokka takes it and holds it up, feeling his finger over the button. He hasn't tested the oil feature yet. Mostly because he just filled it with harmless soda in case it didn't work right. He'll try to do what Nash did instead. And then he executes it on a branch, missing by just a bit and hitting a tree instead. In addition to the recoil, a piece of bark flies loose and smacks him on the forehead.] Ow!

[Nash is studying Sokka's stance, how he uses the weapon. And then the bark comes flying out to hit him and similes.]

Yeah, you have to be careful. When the sword comes back, it can bring other things with it.

[markofthewise]

[Frowns.] Yeah, thanks for the warning.

[He tries again, aiming for the branch again. This time it cuts through the branch, not that Sokka got to see it, busy as he was wincing in case it misfired again.]

If the tree was fighting you back, that wince would provide a pretty big opening. [He looks Sokka up and down.]

Try to be smoother with your wrist. And keep your shoulders straighter, it's easier if you stand like this. [He demonstrates.]

[markofthewise]

Alright, alright. One more time. [He follows Nash's movements, this time keeping his eye on the target. He relaxes his muscles, steadiest his arm, and then fires. In less than a second, where once was a branch is now just some diced wood.]

There you go. You know, I was about your age when I first started training with the sword.
