Sokka the 16th - [Voice]

Guess this is the end of the month. I wonder if this will be the last night? After all, new people will be showing up in a few days. That would mean in one more day 'til I'm back to my normal Sokka self.

So how do you tell someone you might not love them tomorrow? Somehow I don't think opening with a joke is a good idea. But if you happen to have a really good one, feel free to share.

[Sokka ignores the blanket, not really looking up as she sits down.] Hey.

[She rolls her eyes and unfolds the blanket over his legs. Other than that, she'll just sit there and wait.]

I told Toph it wasn't real.

What made you say that?

[Please remember, dear brother, that you are talking with someone who is also extremely affected.]

Because regardless of how I feel, I'm smart enough to know that come tomorrow, it's going to be Suki I'm in love with. [His head tilts back, resting against the stone.] But not smart enough to just keep my stupid mouth shut.

[Upset Katara is upset. A statement like that rips the rug right out from underneath her, and she really wants to yell at him and call him on it. But he's so obviously upset that she is going to try to be calm.]

...you don't know that, Sokka. How could anything take our memories and all our feelings and just -- change them? It's not as if we'd fallen in love with some strangers. It's Zuko and Toph.

[...and ohcrap, did she just admit that she was in love? To Sokka? ...time to move on quickly.] You should go after her.

[Unfortunately they can. But he doesn't see the need to drive Katara away too. He figures she'll have to deal with all of that on her own come morning.]

I don't know where she is. Probably underground somewhere.

[Pause. Then she speaks quietly.] ...Sokka. In all the time that I don't remember... did Toph's parents ever once go after her?

[Ouch.] ... no. [Not that there was much of an opportunity for them too, but still.]

...[There are times when she would cheerfully freeze Toph's parents to the side of a boat.]

You should go after her, Sokka. You should at least try. Even if you're right and this isn't... real, she's still our friend. She should know you looked for her.

[He sighs.] I know. You're right. [He stands up and picks up his sword, putting it back in its place.] ... I might not be back home tonight.

...are you going to be all right out there on your own? You were the one who said we should go in pairs.

I'll be fine. I wouldn't want to keep you and Zuko apart because of my own problems. [After all, they have very little time left together now. At least they can be happy a few hours longer.]

[She'd blush, but that just doesn't sound like Sokka at all.]

...are you sure you're going to be all right?

I've got Boomerang and I've got my sword. I'm fine, Katara. [He starts down the path. There's a few places he has in mind to look.]

[...why does she have a bad feeling about this?]

Sokka! [She'll go running after him, and grab him by the shoulder to turn him around.] Take your stupid book and let me know when you find her. And remember to watch your back.

[He nods, but doesn't quite turn around. He just taps at a pouch attached to his belt. He indeed has his book with him.] If anything happens, you'll be the first to know.

[Katara nods and lets go.] Good. Try not to say anything too stupid this time. Just be her friend.

...she might not want to talk to you. If she tells you to go, you probably should. Toph handles things her own way.

[Shrug] Just offer to be there for her if she needs you.

[Sokka turns back and gives her a slight nod. He then continues on his way.]
