Sokka the 16th - [Voice]

Guess this is the end of the month. I wonder if this will be the last night? After all, new people will be showing up in a few days. That would mean in one more day 'til I'm back to my normal Sokka self.

So how do you tell someone you might not love them tomorrow? Somehow I don't think opening with a joke is a good idea. But if you happen to have a really good one, feel free to share.

Geh. [Katara got affected too, huh? Seems like it got everybody]

That sounds like what I've observed. I haven't had much to do but listen in, lately-- and it seems like the affected individuals all react differently, based on their personalities, but no one could help feeling the way they did. Even if they knew it was inconsistent with their nature.

But I'm sure it's more complicated for people who were already confused about those feeling to begin with. [a sigh] What a mess.

Next month? I'm voting that the experiment somehow involve all of us having the foreboding sense that we left the house without doing something. Or perhaps just losing all of our socks.

[he laughs]

They ought to just put you in charge.

You can bring that up at the next town meeting.

I'll have to remember it.

[a pause, then he shakes his head] You're a pretty hardy bunch, aren't you?

Well we're a pretty varied group from a multitude of worlds. I don't think they picked us all because of our looks.

I'm beginning to doubt they pick us at all.

[a smile] But I meant you and your sister.

Oh. Well... I guess that's a long story. Have you ever talked to her?

A few times. We exchanged stories about our worlds.

She told me you're both from the South Pole. And about your friend Aang, and the war between nations-- the role he's supposed to play. She told me a story about finding the way out of a tunnel, too--- [a pause]

I get the feeling that she's had a lot of responsibility from a young age.

Yeah, she did. In a way, the last year traveling around the world restoring the balance was easier than how things used to be.

[Just a placid, drawn-out "Ohhh?" Do tell.]

Like I said, long story! The good news is that when we finally get to go home, life is going to be a lot better!

Well, I 'd love to hear it, sometime. Your world is pretty fascinating to me.

Heh. I think that'll be the case for everyone. Is that because you were taken after the war was over? Katara said something about that...

[Maybe when he gets to know you more, Mr. Ginko.]

Yeah, the war is over for Toph, Zuko and me. But from what Katara remembers, the war still has another month or so to go.

[He makes a living breaking into people's homes and asking them invasive personal questions, Sokka. This is his version of tact.]

That's right, we talked about that. At least she has the comfort of knowing how everything turned out, while she's here.

Yeah, but it would be a lot harder knowing that when you go back, the only thing waiting for you is a war.

Mm. A lot harder if you didn't know that war had an end in sight.

That's true. Of course, we don't remember anything if we get sent home, but I guess it makes it a little easier being here.

[sharply] We don't remember anything? How do you know that?

According to Vyse, I've been here before. When I went home, I didn't remember Luceti at all. I didn't remember it when I came back either.

Huh.

[he doesn't like the sound of that]

News to you, huh? Apparently the four of us have all been here before, Aang included.

I --wasn't aware of that. [he is NOT partial to the idea of his memory being tampered with]

I suppose that only makes the concept of "Shifting" all the more mysterious.

Honestly, I still have no idea what to make of that.

Yeah.

It sounds like a force that is in some ways outside of the Malnosso's control altogether. At least-- that guide said something about that. It seems there are some kinds of shifting they can control, but the one that brought us into this world isn't one of them.

I don't know.
