Sokka's little sister. They grew up together in the South Pole and are extremely close, especially since their mother died when they were young and their father left them to go to war a few years later. Consequently, the two have a very close bond. Despite the fact they argue a lot.
She arrived in Luceti two months after Sokka and is roughly about two months behind him in their world's timeline. They have been in Luceti longer than any of their other friends from home, both of them having been in Luceti for two years now.
A waterbender, allowing her to control water in all its forms. Sokka possesses some jealousy over her abilities and used to hold some resentment over it too. He finds her ability to use 'bloodbending' to be scary, having been victim to it when Hama used it against him.
Now that Katara is old enough to be wed, Sokka has grown more protective of her than he was in the past. He takes his duty to her as older brother very seriously, even if he doesn't show it. Sometimes she seems to be the older sister in the way she is often the one taking care of Sokka. He gets annoyed if people point this out.
He is now aware of Katara being the target of the raid that led to their mother's death. He doesn't blame her for it.
