Sokka the 77th - [Action/Voice]

[On February Twenty-Fifth, Sokka turned nineteen. On the Twenty-Sixth, he left on a routine mission to work as a mechanic on one of the Malnosso's three space vessels high up in orbit. There was no battle, this time. Just good honest work, people to relate to, and a small bunk to call his own. Seven days, just like that.

On March Fourth, one of the mechanics triggered a malfunction on the hangar doors. The crew quickly fled, just as the power went down. They needed to close the hatch leading to the hallway. But without power, it could only be closed from one side. The one about to be opened up into space. The hero, the stupid hero, closed the door. In those brief moments, he thought that maybe if he reached a Tyr Fighter, he could climb in one of those. He ran. Hard.

He didn't make it.

Today, he fell into the sea, nearly drowning, and was saved by the Avatar. It distracted him from what happened, but now that she was off exploring town, he had the chance to go in his room, get dressed, and collect his weapons. It was a good thing he chose not to bring them. They'd be out floating in space right now, otherwise. One thing was strange, though. He wasn't upset. He wasn't distressed. He could only look back on it and regret that it even happened. That was a week's worth of points he wouldn't be getting. Damn Malnosso cheapskates.

After a bit of cleaning up, he went to go approach this new day. He'd be gone from Luceti for two weeks. People would probably miss him. But his first destination was the smithy.

The only problem was that once he got to the smithy, he found himself looking at the walls. They were barer than he left them. People had been picking up some of the weapons he'd made. Well, that wasn't going to do. He wasn't running a charity here.]

Hey Luceti. Looks like I got back in time for the new feathers to roll in. I'm Sokka. Hope you guys are settling in fine! I run the Slash 'n Crash, the local smithy and weapon shop. I make most of the weapons here. I do take commissions if people want stuff. But since there's no money, just talk to me and we can work out a trade. No point in breaking your back for nothing, right?

Anyway, did I miss anything important?

[For the rest of the day, Sokka can be found at the smithy. Later he does about an hour of catch up work at the library, before going home to dinner. Remarkably enough, he doesn't feel like drinking today.

Oh. Well, I guess this means we can work out a trade now. I just have to find things I'd think you like. [ She was hoping she'd have more time. She quickly looks around and sees a bird on the windowsill. Her mind briefly floats to Sokka's possible opinions on taxidermy before she mentally gently reminds herself that killing a bird on the feed would creep everyone out and would just reek of obsession and weirdness. Especially if Sokka didn't like taxidermy.

How do you feel about taxidermy?

[... taxidermy. Familiar with the concept, but he doesn't have much of an opinion on it. Well, okay, he does.]

That seems like a waste of the animal.

Well, if it's killed specifically to become a statue, I agree. But sometimes I find it to be kinda touching. I think metallic statues would work better for it, though.

I have been known to make animal-shaped metal statues. Once. It wasn't that good.

And just what are your favorite animals? [ Ooh boy this trade is going to be something so totally interesting. ]

Well, at the risk of being cliched, I've always been partial to the wolf.

Hmmm! I don't think that's cliche. I think something like a tortoise or a squirrel or a bird is. [ Tenten, who have you been hanging out with? ]

Really? Why would people want those?

I'm not sure. I think it's because Guy-sensei can summon a tortoise, but he never actually uses him. Or summons him. [ Two times in the past three and a half years? Yep... Sure is an exhausting life. ]

I'm sort of familiar with the summoning concept. Really. I get it. But why a tortoise? Why would you ever need a tortoise?

I'm not quite sure either. I think that's why Guy-sensei rarely uses him. I know he used him once to discipline my teammate while he wasn't there, and another time he used him as a platform to get even higher in midair. Guy-sensei told me he grew so much, he was easily three times his previous size! So, maybe he summons him to crush his opponents. I know the turtle can also summon him if it needs to.

You ninjas have the weirdest world. Almost as weird as the pirate one.

Almost as weird as the pirate one? There's nothing in our world that even comes close to the pirate one! [ Sokka you just opened up a whole 'nother can of worms... ]

I mean, our world has some basis in reality that doesn't involve islands in the sky and stuff. [ but they have turtle islands. ]

Like I said. Almost. At least they don't run on water. [A beat as he remembers Brook.] Most of them.

How is running on water weirder than the pirate world where people turn themselves into smoke? At least running on water is a natural application of chakra. It's not that strange when it's explained.

A 'natural application of chakra'. I'm not saying the smoke thing makes sense. But neither did what you just said.

Chakra is something that's found in everyone's cells where I'm from. By attracting chakra to your feet, it becomes a firm surface that you can walk on. But, because it's just energy, it's light enough to balance on top of water. That's how you walk on water.

Generally speaking, cells usually just contain even smaller, even more microscopic squishy things inside of them. Which means I've got as much chakra in me as a rock has thoughts.

Well, those things are still in our cells. We just have extra components and they make slightly different energy.

It's possible for nonnatives to have chakra though, from my personal experience. [ Looking at you, Masaomi. ]

[Ah. Right. He actually is thinking of the same person.]

Like Masaomi?

Exactly. I'm almost a little surprised how far he's come along. [ She didn't think it's possible, but the next thing she knows, he's standing upside down on a wall.

Eh. More power to him. ] It was the first time I realized someone can actually use our techniques, or, our basic ones anyways.

Well, as useful as walking on water would be, I'd have to give up alchemy to make time for learning something else.

You're learning alchemy? [ She's very curious right now. ] How's that coming along?

I'm on the verge of something big. Really big. The cultists won't know what hit them.

Hmm~ [ tenten likey. tenten likey a lot. ] I can't wait to see this demonstrated. I hope I get drawn for the draft, now. [ At least, if she goes, one combat incompetent fool won't risk us all by being out there. ]
