Sokka the 77th - [Action/Voice]

[On February Twenty-Fifth, Sokka turned nineteen. On the Twenty-Sixth, he left on a routine mission to work as a mechanic on one of the Malnosso's three space vessels high up in orbit. There was no battle, this time. Just good honest work, people to relate to, and a small bunk to call his own. Seven days, just like that.

On March Fourth, one of the mechanics triggered a malfunction on the hangar doors. The crew quickly fled, just as the power went down. They needed to close the hatch leading to the hallway. But without power, it could only be closed from one side. The one about to be opened up into space. The hero, the stupid hero, closed the door. In those brief moments, he thought that maybe if he reached a Tyr Fighter, he could climb in one of those. He ran. Hard.

He didn't make it.

Today, he fell into the sea, nearly drowning, and was saved by the Avatar. It distracted him from what happened, but now that she was off exploring town, he had the chance to go in his room, get dressed, and collect his weapons. It was a good thing he chose not to bring them. They'd be out floating in space right now, otherwise. One thing was strange, though. He wasn't upset. He wasn't distressed. He could only look back on it and regret that it even happened. That was a week's worth of points he wouldn't be getting. Damn Malnosso cheapskates.

After a bit of cleaning up, he went to go approach this new day. He'd be gone from Luceti for two weeks. People would probably miss him. But his first destination was the smithy.

The only problem was that once he got to the smithy, he found himself looking at the walls. They were barer than he left them. People had been picking up some of the weapons he'd made. Well, that wasn't going to do. He wasn't running a charity here.]

Hey Luceti. Looks like I got back in time for the new feathers to roll in. I'm Sokka. Hope you guys are settling in fine! I run the Slash 'n Crash, the local smithy and weapon shop. I make most of the weapons here. I do take commissions if people want stuff. But since there's no money, just talk to me and we can work out a trade. No point in breaking your back for nothing, right?

Anyway, did I miss anything important?

[For the rest of the day, Sokka can be found at the smithy. Later he does about an hour of catch up work at the library, before going home to dinner. Remarkably enough, he doesn't feel like drinking today.

Today is a good day.]

As promised, Sokka does show up there about an hour later. He put his stuff away, cleaned himself up a bit at the sink in the workshop, and did his best to make himself look good. Yeah, he looked pretty alright.

Once he made it to the tea shop, he did his best to ninja his way in and take a seat. That way he could patiently wait for Suki to notice him.

For awhile, Suki regretted inviting Sokka. She was nervous and wasn't sure if she was ready. But their last interaction wasn't that bad, so she didn't have anything to worry about. Or at least she hoped not.

Though she noticed Sokka right away, it took some time for her to approach him.

"Hey."

He smiled when he saw her and nearly considered being a little mean and teasing her to take his order. Normally he would, but this wasn't normally.

"Hey. So this is it... Are you on duty?"

She gives him a soft smile. "I'm actually off. But if you'd like something, I can get you something."

"Well, if you want to get something, I won't stop you. Just some jasmine tea?"

"Alright. I'll be right back then."

Though she tried to push the feeling away, Suki still felt awkward around Sokka. She still smiled though. He was her friend. That's what she had to remind herself of.

It took a few minutes, but she returned with a cup of tea for Sokka, nothing for her, and took a seat across from him.

He accepted the drink, but let it sit between his hands as he waited for it to cool. However he did raise an eyebrow when she sat down with nothing for herself.

"Sick of tea already?"

"No." She shrugged. "I just don't want a cup. Beside this will be the first cup of tea I've made-" She stopped suddenly. This probably wouldn't be the first cup of tea he had that she made. She had to stop thinking that she was his Suki.

"Really? Sheena just has you waitressing?" Sokka regarded his cup with concern. If this was her first cup, it might very well be terrible.

"Well, I still have a lot to learn about tea." And it isn't awful. It just isn't amazing.

Bravely, Sokka lifted the cup to his lips and took a sip. "This is great!" He lied. It wasn't awful and he'd be able to finish the rest.

Okay. Now she's blushing. Hearing that makes her really happy/ "Is it really?"

"Definitely. You're a natural at this!" He drank a little more and swallowed it without struggle. Sheer force of will.

She's buying it. "Thanks. That really means a lot. Did you want another cup?"

"No no! I couldn't--! I mean, Buffy gave me this huge milkshake earlier." He patted his stomach. "I gotta watch my figure. I don't wanna get all pudgy."

Staring now. "It's just tea." Now she's starting to not believe him anymore. And to tease him some, "And I thought you weren't going to lie to me anymore." Too soon? Probably.

He should probably feel guilty. But he didn't. If anything, he felt a slight twinge of annoyance at being called out for lying. "I was just trying to make you feel better."

That reaction was not one she was expecting. She was actually hoping he'd joke around with her. "You don't need to lie to me to make me feel better. You really didn't like it then?"

"It's not bad or anything. It's pretty good for your first cup, really."

She was still looking at him, not liking that answer from before. "Did something happen today?

"... I came back? From a mission?" He didn't want her prodding. Not until he knew what was up for himself.

"That's it?" Just making sure, but she really has no other choice but to believe him. And, if he didn't want to talk about it, then there was really nothing she could do other than drop the subject.

"Well I ran into Korra on the way back to town. The uh, next Avatar. After Aang. She'd just shown up."

[Oh. Maybe that was why Sokka wasn't in a joking around mood. It was hard for Suki to think about that too.]

Yeah. It's pretty hard to believe. The next Avatar. Have you spoken with Aang yet?
