Okay, I just need everyone's attention for a minute. At least, those of you who, you know, like weapons.

I'm Sokka and I guess you could say I'm in charge of the weapon shop and smithy. I've been working with Leon Geeste, who is a kind of master alchemist guy, to make even better weapons. With his crests and my weapons, we can add a kind of magical element to them now. For instance, a sword can be given a fire element and that will make the blade burn and make it deadlier. Or a spear could be given an ice element that will freeze around the target a little. And, you know, other stuff. There's earth, air, and lightning elements too.

Anyway, these aren't always the easiest things to make, but... if it's a thing you want, we can do it. We've got stuff already made, but we can do something custom too. But just be practical, right? Sure, we might be able to figure out how to put crests into a hundred arrows. But we might also decide to, you know, have social lives too. These crests work best with a single weapon that you'll keep reusing. I can uh, explain it better, if you need me to.

[With that announcement out of the way, Sokka will hang out at the smithy until dinner time. He wants to be there and ready in case anyone wants these cool new unique weapons. Unless, of course, no one shows up. In which case he'll be at his work desk converting his alchemy notes into code, which is proving to be his least favorite thing to do ever. He kind of hates Ed now for telling him he had to do this. But it's what he has to do if he wants to prevent the secrets of meat alchemy from falling into the wrong hands. Who knows what people could do with that kind of power!

After closing up shop and doing his usual dinner at home, Sokka will be unusually taking a walk around the village in the evening. He's actually got a lot on his mind and without smithing or alchemy to occupy his thoughts, he's stuck on the Masaomi problem. He's half hoping that he'll run into the guy on the streets, but he's still not entirely sure how to approach the problem. Before the evening's over, he'll end up at Good Spirits, concerned and drowning his thoughts into a nice tall glass of... hot chocolate. Because that's what men do. Drink tall cups of hot chocolate with tiny marshmallows and whipped cream.]

"Well, the closest thing I've been to a hospital, I think, is whenever I've been kidnapped." And he remembered one instance of it. The infiltration.

"...Their facilities are kinda hospitalish. Yeah. I will confess that hospitals aren't nearly quite as horrible as that. U-unless you've got a demon running around eating sick kids. That's pretty gross."

"... you're going to have to explain that one, you know." He had passed on most of them. But that one? He couldn't just let it go.

"Ugly-ass demon. It lived in hospitals. It, uhm -- jeez. It killed kids by sucking the life out of them...sorta like devouring their essence. Afterwards, they looked like a fever had gotten them. Problem was that only kids and the really really ill could see this guy."

"... only kids and the really, really ill? That seems pretty convenient. For the demon, I mean."

"Evil camouflage. And he might never have been stopped if I didn't actually get the flu and land myself at the hospital."

"So how long had he been doing it? And how many others like him are out there?" For every victory Buffy talked about, he had to wonder how much was out there she never stopped.

"...He's the only one. Some demons are kind of a one time deal. Thankfully. As for how long? At least since I was...younger. I saw him once before I was even the Slayer. Not that I...knew that. At the time."

"That's a lot of victims." Solemnly.

"...A lot of little kids," she whispered. Poor Celia. A young Buffy Summers had no way to know that her cousin's life was being stolen by a demon. Not that she could have stopped him, then. But: "I dealt with it. I just wish the numbers were more in our favour, back home. I wanna win. Not just play stop-gap. Cork in the bottle."

"Can you win?" It wasn't like the Fire Nation. They stopped that war. More trouble might be ahead of them in the future, but they could deal with it. How did one stop an endless supply of monsters and demons?

"We can win big battles. We can turn tides. We defeated something we call the First Evil, back home. It doesn't solve the problem but it keeps things from boiling over. Winning, for us, mostly means beating the bad guys before they can end the world. But when you stop one apocalypse, the next is just waiting to happen."

It was tiring. Exhausting. But it was her element.

"Do you think that's how it is here? You know... with the Third Party." It had, at least, been the impression he received. It was amazing how he used to think that they could be dealt with. But after hearing stories from people in other enclosures, he hadn't realized how lucky they had been.

"I think it's a lot like that. I think it'll stay like that until someone tips the balance of power."

And she will eventually approach Katara about tipping said balance.

"Hopefully I'm back at home, eating artic hippo jerky, when that finally happens. I'm not really liking our odds."

"Ew. Ew ew ew. A thousand times ew."

"Hey, hey. It's better than it sounds. Trust me."

"I trust you, Sokka. Just not on matters meat-related."

"So that's a no go on taste testing the meat alchemy, huh?"

"Can I sit out as a conscientious objector?"

"Only if our friendship means so little to you."

"Oh. You so did not just play the friendship card. How dare you."

"With an extra helping of guilt too."

"...Say I play ball. Do I get to plug my nose?"

"Actually, the taste and smell is fine. It's the shape that needs some work."
