Fourth Wall (Multiple Character Post)

[Even though many of these people are currently away on missions, somehow they manage to end up in Luceti in their old haunts, unaware that they shouldn't be around.

Sokka is in the smithy, doing his usual work. Kurt Wagner is hanging out in the Rec Center, kicking back to play games. Ling Yao is on the roof of a building watching all the new people in amusement. Ganondorf is short on patience and makes his way on horseback to the mountains until this is all over. Arthur is absolutely puzzled, having had no experience with experiments, and is looking for anyone familiar in the crowd.]

[He recognized her anyway? -- Oh, because he looks younger, he must be used to her as a child! Well, that's...a little less weird, she supposes. (Wrong conclusion, whoops.)

A little sheepishly:] ...Hi, Dad.

[markofthewise]

[And that totally was not among the top ten responses he was expecting. He is stunned for a moment before he can make words coherent.]

I- you- what- but- DAD?

[.......Huh?]

Dad. You know, father, man parent, that guy who gets to sit at the dinner table every night -- dad.

[Frown.] ...How else would you know me?

[This. This is not funny. Not funny at all, Malnosso. He sees what they're doing here.]

You're- You are are supposed to be my friend. Blonde, pale, likes to swim a lot. You're a ferines!

[Blink. A what?]

One out of four really isn't that good. I don't even know what a...fer-thing is! [Setting down the fishing rod, she crosses her arms.] This isn't funny, Dad. Stop it.

[She knows she's being childish -- it's pretty clear that the Shift messed with his memories pretty severely. But...usually it at least kept some details right. She's getting a bad feeling about this.]

[He really should just try and go along with this for her sake, but this is weird and he's not sure Fenimore would forgive him for it afterward.]

I'm not- look, I'm not trying to be funny. This isn't supposed to be you. I mean... I was your dad once, but that was just an experiment!

[Which might be a good plan in general, but this time, Fenimore (er, the Ferines one) will probably never find out about it! But there's no way for him to know -- she's even got the right kind of wings under her coat. And she would probably eventually notice if he was playing along, anyway.

She's really not sure what he means by experiment, though. Well, he can't be talking about a Shift -- that would suggest someone was doing them on purpose and that is just a silly idea right.]

A what? Like on a trial basis? That's not how fathers work -- [...This isn't working.] This is so messed up.

It wasn't a trial! It was... it was an experiment. This isn't you.

[And they're doing it to her again! And it's terrible. He hates to outright tell her that she isn't real, but this isn't like some other Fenimore plucked from some other version of her world. This was a Fenimore invented by the Malnosso for an experiment. A sloppy experiment at that.]

[Being rejected by someone who looks and sounds as much like her father hurts. But it's easier to get angry than get upset.]

So what do you want me to do, huh? "My bad! I'll try to be blonder now"? I can't do that! This person you're talking about, this friend with my name -- that isn't me. I can't be anything but me.

[markofthewise]

[... okay, that wasn't fair of him at all. It's not like she can help being... whatever she is.]

... I'm sorry. I'm sure you're a great, um... daughter. But I'm not your dad. Your real one is... I don't know, in your Luceti.
