markofthewise | 66th: The Party Planning of Sokka Thunderaxe

[Well, Sokka's in it deep now. After being forced to 'cover' for Haruhi in the Brigade, he went and made up some stupid party and now he needs to go public with it. Which... yeah, he is so not into doing. So, deep breath as he composes himself.]

Attention everyone! This is Haruhi Suzumiya, Chief of the SOS Brigade. [Okay, name and title down. He's got that. Now for the announcement.] As you should all be aware, the Autumn Equinox is September 23rd, that's eight days from now. It's also conveniently on a Friday as well. Which means we will be having a party for that. Although, technically, it might not really be the equinox. Different worlds, different planetary cycles, but that's not important. [It's getting too much into Sokka-esque technicalities] There's going to be a fall party, right in the plaza.

We will, of course, provide food and fireworks to make things interesting. If anyone wants to provide other entertainment like, say, music... have at it. The party will start at nine in the evening. Brigade members, you all know what to do! Failure to do your part will result in steep penalties all around.

[Aaaaand this is the part he hates most, but he knows it's inevitable.]

Also! We're recruiting. If you want to join the Brigade, contact me for an interview and can be... interviewed. If you like the idea of parties and other time wasting nonsense, this is probably the club for you.

[THERE IT IS DONE. Sokka will be sitting in the Brigade headquarters, after the meeting, to answer all these questions and generally hate his life. Later he'll hit up the grocery store to take some stuff 'home' for dinner. (And if that's not enough to work with, come up with something and we will MAKE IT WORK.)]

I'll have some milk, thanks.

All right. [She stands and wanders off to the kitchen to pour two glasses of milk.]

Just a little! [And then he'll just wait here. And maybe start on a muffin.]

[And suddenly there's a yelp, a thud, and the sound of a liquid being spilled. Oh dear.]

[Aaaaand now Sokka is popping up and looking in the kitchen.]

Is everything okay?

Y-yeah, I just - dropped it. [There's a cup knocked over on the counter, and she's bending over to pick up the gallon of milk now. There are two glasses worth of milk on the floor though. She sighs.]

[Wow. Awkward. Sokka gets up and starts looking around the kitchen for a towel.] What happened?

Like I said. I dropped it. [She's not really... all here. Being upset makes her kind of out of it. Winry grabs a small dish towel from a drawer, but when she puts it to the puddle of milk it's obviously not enough.]

... why don't you sit down. I can get this. [And he kneels down to start cleaning it up for real.]

A-are you sure?

Of course I'm sure. Just relax. I've got this.

[Even Sokka can handle something like this.]

[Winry steps back to sit down at the table. Once there she rubs her temples a bit.]

Sorry.

[Once it's cleaned up and the old dishes put away, he pours milk into new glasses. Fortunately not all of it was poured out, but this house is going to need a new jug now. Once that's done, he sets it down at the table and retrieves he muffins.]

There. No harm done.

[She cups the glass in her hand and looks down at the milk in it.]

Guess I should be paying more attention to what I'm doing.

Well... you've been having a hard time, right? Being a little out of it understandable.

[He starts pulling the muffins from the bag, setting them out fro the two of them.]

It's... like he died all over again. [She hangs her head and ignores the muffins for now.]

[Sokka knows loss. It's not easy and he's went through it a few times, even in Luceti. When Mayoi went home, it was basically her death. But it's hard to provide some kind of common ground when he doesn't know if Haruhi has one.]

I'm sorry. He was a really great guy.

[Winry nods. Mr. Hughes was a phenomenal guy. When he was around she felt like she had regained a little bit of what she lost in her childhood. But he's gone again, and has taken that with him.]

[Silence that he isn't sure how to fill. The muffins were a bad idea. He can't bring himself to consider them or the milk. Sigh.]

[She reaches over to take a muffing, and breaks a piece of the top off to put it in to her mouth.]

[Oh. Well there we go then. Sokka does much of the same. Except maybe a bigger piece to stuff in his mouth, which doesn't all quite fit. He forgets to eat like Haruhi and not like Sokka.]

...Are you trying to choke yourself with that?

[He looks up and tries to swallow it down quickly.]

I'm just hungry...?

That piece was almost too big for your mouth.

[He washes it down with some milk.]

I missed breakfast.
