markofthewise | 66th: The Party Planning of Sokka Thunderaxe

[Well, Sokka's in it deep now. After being forced to 'cover' for Haruhi in the Brigade, he went and made up some stupid party and now he needs to go public with it. Which... yeah, he is so not into doing. So, deep breath as he composes himself.]

Attention everyone! This is Haruhi Suzumiya, Chief of the SOS Brigade. [Okay, name and title down. He's got that. Now for the announcement.] As you should all be aware, the Autumn Equinox is September 23rd, that's eight days from now. It's also conveniently on a Friday as well. Which means we will be having a party for that. Although, technically, it might not really be the equinox. Different worlds, different planetary cycles, but that's not important. [It's getting too much into Sokka-esque technicalities] There's going to be a fall party, right in the plaza.

We will, of course, provide food and fireworks to make things interesting. If anyone wants to provide other entertainment like, say, music... have at it. The party will start at nine in the evening. Brigade members, you all know what to do! Failure to do your part will result in steep penalties all around.

[Aaaaand this is the part he hates most, but he knows it's inevitable.]

Also! We're recruiting. If you want to join the Brigade, contact me for an interview and can be... interviewed. If you like the idea of parties and other time wasting nonsense, this is probably the club for you.

[THERE IT IS DONE. Sokka will be sitting in the Brigade headquarters, after the meeting, to answer all these questions and generally hate his life. Later he'll hit up the grocery store to take some stuff 'home' for dinner. (And if that's not enough to work with, come up with something and we will MAKE IT WORK.)]

Generally speaking, yes. Though it really comes down to timing.

... Timing? [ She sounds a bit confused. ] What does timing have to do with parties?

Well you never know if people will get caught up doing other stuff. Or if there might be an experiment. Or someone will turn into a monster and have to be taken down.

W-well, they could at least hold off something like an experiment until after we have done the party.. It's only common courtesy, right?

I don't think the Malnosso really care about our schedule.

We'll just have to ask them! Ask them nicely, and if they don't listen, then we'll do it forcefully! They can't stop the party!

New enough that you haven't been through a real experiment yet.

Hmm.. In that case, what are these experiments like? Are they really as bad as you make them sound?

... they aren't anything like tests. Experiments are where they do stuff to you like... make you think you're someone else, or want to do certain things, or fall in love with people, or... turn into something else.

... Huh..? But how could they even make us think we're someone else?

It's called Shifting, which is like... bending reality however they want.

N-no way! We're up against an enemy like that?! I didn't know the situation was that bad..

Didn't anyone tell you what it was like here?

Well, Ami-chan told me all about the drafts and experiments and all, but.. I didn't know it went as far as mind control!

There's no limits to what they can do.

So you're saying they could even do horrible things like letting all the food in the village disappear forever?!

Well... technically, yeah, I guess they could. I don't know why they'd bother, but...

That's horrible! Definitely horrible! We can't let such a thing happen, it would be the worst thing ever!

... well, yes. But there isn't really much we can do. And right now they're not starving us. You can't spend your whole time worrying about what they might do.

There's no way I can stop worrying about it now! Don't you think too that it's a horrible possibility that they could take away our food any time?!

[Sigh.] They're not going to do that. But if you're worried, just start stocking up.

But if they could really take it away, then even stocking up won't help at all!

[ she sounds quite serious about this issue - food is apparently just that important to her. ]

They could just take it away from where I hid it!
