markofthewise | 65th: The Swapping of Sokka Thunderaxe

[And now Sokka was a girl. Worse than that, he was Haruhi Suzumiya. After an enlightening conversation with that Malnosso girl, he and the real Haruhi had come to the unhappy conclusion it was better not to tell anyone what happened. Which Sokka hated the idea of, but the potential consequences of not doing it could be worse. Besides, if Haruhi could figure out how to fix all of this, he'd be back in his own body by tomorrow! Or a few days, anyway.

This, unfortunately, means having to live like Haruhi. And dress like her too. Girly top, a dress, and that stupid ribbon in his hair. As much as he wanted to just tie it all behind his head in a ponytail, she wouldn't let him do that. Can't blow their cover, after all. And then he has to follow Haruhi's schedule for things.

He leaves the house undetected that morning, eating breakfast on the go. This leaves him to try and do things that Haruhi would do. Which he is not at all thrilled about. Since he doesn't want to run into people, he ends up hitting the library to read about things that would help him be Haruhi. Like things about Japan. He'd never cared about Japan, but it seemed like he ought to know things on it by now.

After lunch (which he spends tucked away privately in the back of one of the restaurants), he swallows his anxiety and goes to visit Winry. But then he decides to look in on Shiki first at All Passions, like instructed. After that he'll warily enter the smithy, feeling oddly out of place there, to visit Winry. When these 'appointments' are finished, he'll arrive at the Brigade building. Early. Twiddling his thumbs until people arrive. Fortunately he wrote down a cheat sheet for who everyone actually is.

After the meeting (which is probably short), he'll be left with nothing to do for a few hours. That's when he opts to just hit the barracks and try to train. He'll be incredibly frustrated at the fact he seems to have lost his skill at just about everything. While he's not horrible, he's nowhere near his "A Game".

In the evening he faces the second worst part of the day - cooking. Being only skilled at cooking meat, he'll try his darndest to make a decent meal. It will be edible Shiki and Beat, don't worry. It will just be incredibly bland and very heavy on the meat. Sort of a boring exercise in chewing, really. Given that Katara has drilled family dinners into him, he'll be at the table expecting a group dinner.

Later in the evening he'll spend some time on the roof, grumbling about his fate, and working secretly on carving a piece of wood into a new boomerang. Day one was a nightmare. He doesn't think he's going to last another one.]

MORE IMPORTANTLY this is a body swap plot! It involves some of Haruhi's reality bending powers, so it's not an experiment/Mallynapping thing. As explained here, this means that Sokka and Haruhi's friends shouldn't notice things being that odd. If they do, it's something they'd quickly dismiss. I hope you guys will play along!))

[Yeah so he really should've listened in longer than just making sure Winry wasn't in danger. Oops.]

Well. I still don't have to be happy about it.

[That merits some thought, and thought says that this is fair.] Yeah, I guess you're right. So like...I was thinking I could make it up to you somehow.

[Irvine really is supportive of lesbian relationships, especially if he's invited to join in once or twice. Not that that's ever happened to him.] Well, I dunno. It depends on what you need. I'm good at figuring out peoples' problems.

[Irvine has a better chance of that happening when Haruhi is Haruhi again. Which is still pretty much no chance in hell. Oh well.] You wouldn't happen to have the power to control souls, would you?

I figured. [Try not to look too upset about it, Sokka.] Well fine, what can you do?

I could program something for you at the battle dome. [He spent yesterday playing around there. Because he's a teenage boy, and if you give him a holodeck, he's going to test the limits.]

[He kind of already knows how to do that. He figures Haruhi does either.]

I've been here since the Dome showed up. I can work it pretty well already.

Yeah, but the point is, you wouldn't have to do it.

Maybe I like setting things up myself. [He figures it would involve going with Irvine to watch him set it up and then him inviting himself along. He doesn't like this idea. He doesn't think Haruhi would either.] Pass.

Okay. [Now he's feeling a tad insecure. He's usually better at this.] Any ideas?

[He groans.] You really want to do something, don't you?

Well, I mean. Just thinkin' about how we can make peace, right? That's not so bad.

[What can he do to get this guy off his back, if only he could throw him a bone or something.

And then an idea hits him!]

Okay, fine. How about this. You try and join my club- err, brigade. The SOS Brigade.

Um, okay. So like...what is it?

Didn't you read the guide? [Yeah, that seems appropriately Haruhi-ish to him.] We're only the best group in all of Luceti. We go around making things... fun. With parties and... activities, festivals... sometimes we do cook outs. And we have daily meetings. Those are fun. And.... [Jeez, what else do they even do? He should have grilled Haruhi for more details.] just general exciting stuff. We're pretty exclusive.

[Sounds like the kind of thing Selphie would drag him into. Which he would humor, because it's Selphie. But this is not Selphie, and this is totally not his kind of thing.]

Okay, well, I can think about it. Daily meetings, huh?

[It's just as well, Sokka wouldn't let him in unless Haruhi was okay with it. That was part of the deal.]

Except on Sundays.

'Kay. Like, I'll think about it? And uh, I'll let you know later.

[RUN RUN RUN IRVINE RUN.]

So uh. We're cool, right? You're not gonna like, kill me in my sleep. 'Cause it wasn't like I asked anyone to kidnap me and put me in bed with your girlfriend.

[Although he's not complaining about how he arrived. That was nice up until the tool-throwing.]

[Kill him in his sleep? He's huge.]

Yeah, you're fine. Just don't let it happen again.

[Hey, he's been kicked down the stairs by a 5'3" girl. Not that he's going to brag about that.]

[Sokka just frowns at that.]

You're absolutely right. But you got the wrong first impression, and I just want you to give me a chance, okay? I'll catch you sometime.

Yeah, sure. Seeya around. [He's not going to try and stretch this out any longer than he has to.]
