{So Sokka is in a dilemma. Here he is, his usual lunch spot sitting on the stony edge of the fountain, eating his sandwich, when it occurs to him that he's had a ham-and-turkey--and-roast-beef-with-cheese-and-jalapeno sandwich for three week consecutively. And that's only because three weeks ago Hawky flew away with his sandwich before he could eat it. As he realizes he has little to no desire to finish this half eaten sandwich, he realizes his life needs a CHANGE. Something different. Exciting. A way to make his mundane existence in Luceti worthwhile again. Naturally he turns to the journals.]

Okay, so, I'm sick of eating the same old stuff for lunch. Sandwiches are great, really, but I've been eating them for a year now. I think I need more variety in my lunches. Any ideas? It can't be... complicated or anything. Believe it or not, cooking is not exactly my thing. So, anyone got any ideas that don't include visiting Seventh Heaven every day? Or the other restaurants, either. No offense to them, but... I dunno. No offense, either way.

{Unless it's for something special, Sokka just doesn't buy into making people work for him without recompensation.

He chews on his sandwich a bit more, then decides to add:]

Anybody like fishing? I mean... maybe not so much the net fishing. Just line fishing. Or spear fishing, I'm good with that too. It's actually been awhile since I caught my own dinner, now that I think about it.

[For you action folks, catch Sokka at his usual haunts. The smithy, around House 56, around the plaza, or beside the barracks, working on the lumber Moro provided into usable material for his boat. LOUD POWER TOOL SOUNDS, RAR HAR HAR.]

On my own? About a fifteen pounder. [The biiiig stuff he hasn't done since he was thirteen and allowed to go on long fishing expeditions with the men.]

Heh, was that here ... or back home?

Back home! I don't go for stuff that big here. There's not much point, since I usually eat my kills alone.

Ohhh? But don't you have six people in your house now? or something close to that...

Six people and two pets. [It's getting packed in there now. And to think, several months ago it was just the three of them.]

[TWO pets, too, that's right...] Heh, and none of them sharing your kills?

Well, Hawky does like the strips of meat, when I take him with me.

You have a hawk? [that one he hasn't seen. And taking a wild leap, from the deeply creative name...]

Messenger Hawk, actually. Well, I guess Dragon Hawk is what they're technically called in the wild... anyway, yeah. He showed up when Boss Blue talked about pets showing up. [Hawky doesn't get seen as much, though. Sokka lets him fly about freely when it's warm out and the other housemates don't have much to do with him.]

Huhh. Guess he had a thing for giving out birds... [that might've come out as a grumble]

Do you-- actually use him for delivering messages?

As a matter of fact, I have. Not often, but it's important to have him delivering messages or he'll lose his training. That's what the seller I bought him from said.

Ah-- so this is an old partnership, I take it?

I guess you could say that. I only had him for about a day back home, though. My sister sent him to deliver a message on the other side of the world and I never saw him again, until I got here.

[.......chuckle.] She didn't like him, or something? [because THAT would be a funny story]

Maybe. She was sending a letter for Toph to her parents. [KIND of a noble cause, but it was his hawk! She didn't even ask!]

Guess you got him just in time, then. Is that how you usually send long-range letter, in your world?

It is one of the more convenient ways, yeah. Though it's actually more of a Fire Nation thing. The Earth Kingdom tend to deliver things in person.

[oh, wait, he's knows this geography... he tries to recall a map made of suspended tea] But isn't the Earth Nation the largest, space-wise?

Yeah, it is. But they have systems set up to pass along messages through multiple riders. And in the cities, they have some pretty organized systems to distribute stuff.

Huhh, that makes sense. What do the water tribes use?

... we don't. [The Northern Tribe is isolated, the Southern Tribe barely even exists.]

Mm. [damn, he was hoping for awesome water-creature based methods...] I can see how news on war would be slow to date.

We had no idea how the war was even going for the two years dad was gone. [Heck, they only had contact with the other villages a few times in those two years. It was the real definition of isolation.]

[a low hum] I've seen in happen. But maybe now that's a system you'll have time to mend.

[in the future, anyway. The imaginary future.]

Yeah, I guess. But there's a lot of things to fix with the war over.
