[When Sokka opens the journal, he does it with a very specific purpose and yeah, maybe it's New Feather season and the aftermath of some dumb experiment, but he has some news that he's been sitting on for awhile. News that only two or three people outside of the Avatar house are even aware of. So today, around lunch period at school, Sokka heads around the building, facing the playground, to make an announcement he'd been putting off for a bit. Not because he didn't want to make it, but it was hard to do it with people being all ragey with the Malnosso. Maybe a few days of New Feathers will have cooled them off?]

Hey everyone. So... this is actually a few weeks late, but uh, that experiment kind of got in the way and New Feathers showing up and... anyway. Forget all that.

If you guys happen to see Suki around town, say hi to her for me. After all, she's the future Missus Thunderaxe. [He allows that to sink in a bit.] Because, you know, we're engaged now. Just saying. Nice pretty necklace and everything. One of my best works, if I do say so myself.

[Yeah, yeah. He's feeling good about that, okay. Like, solid. Whatever that means. Anyway, he decided that tonight he is making dinner. That means he's going to the grocery and stocking up on steaks. He wants to make steak burgers, because he's heard about them (somewhere) and they sounded awesome. From Luceti he had decided he liked steak and he liked hamburgers, so a combination? Gotta be a winner. Nevermind that he's just getting regular old steaks and plans to just put those on a hamburger bun. He'll realize the bones are gonna be a problem later on.

He'll make his customary appearance at the smithy to help New Feathers with weapons. He'll also be around school during the appropriate times for that. In the evening, after his dinner fiasco, he'll be down by the river, on the southern end of town, making some modifications to see if he can't make it sea worthy. Like adding a sail. He's pretty unsatisfied with the results though. Looks like he may need to just make a new boat from scratch. Which necessitates another voice post in the evening. But only after excluding a certain pirate. No offense, Jack, but he wants his own boat.]

So... ship building. Anyone want to help make one? A big one. Not huge, just... sea worthy with a nice strong sail. And good for bringing in lots of fish, too. Any help would be good. Just materials would go a long way.

Iiii got really lucky. But I guess my bola sling was pretty handy, too.

Except you. [Although a bola sling? That sounds more interesting.] How exactly did you manage to hit him with a bola?

H-honestly? Luck, mostly. But I guess I'm better with projectiles than other weapons...but really, just luck.

[He did build it all by himself, though.]

Right... you'll have to show me your technique sometime. I'm pretty good with a boomerang myself.

Ah-ahh, yeah! We'll, um, we'll definitely have to do that. Sometime. Sounds like..great fun. Yup!

[Jeez Hiccup, don't sound so enthused.]

You've got it. [Oh, an earlier discussion with Haruhi occurs to him...] Hey, is Hiccup your real name or just a nickname?

[What can he say, he...loves to...fight!]

Oh? Um. Yeah, it's my real name. Vikings like really nasty names that make you sound really mean. I...guess mine isn't all that threatening, though.

So let me guess, your dad was named Belch? Was your mom Achoo?

You know? Those aren't bad guesses. My dad's name is Stoick the Vast, and the guy I worked at the forge with? Gobber the Belch. Then there was Tuffnut, Ruffnut, Snoutlout, Fishlegs...oh, um, and my mom was named Valhallarama. Iiii...didn't really know her, though.

... Fishlegs seems like a pretty unfortunate name. [What do they do, draw two words out of a hat and combine them for a name?]

Yeah, he's...[A pretty unfortunate viking, too, but Hiccup doesn't have room to talk.] He's a great guy. Actually, you know, talked to me before I became the cool guy in dragon training class.

[Trying to imagine Hiccup as the cool guy anywhere... really, Sokka has no room to be so skeptical.]

Cool because of your Night Fury, right?

More or less, yeah. I kind of learned how to disarm dragons from him, so...I became the best student in the class.

Disarming dragons, huh? [He's never actually seen a dragon in his life, but come on, this sounds like universally useful information!] Is it hard?

Not so much once you know what really makes them tick. Or, rather...what they like. It was kind of like having a cheat sheet, I guess.

So... hypothetically speaking, you could teach me how to do all this stuff. Just in case I ever run into a dragon.

...Yeah, I guess so. Unless dragons work differently from places that aren't my world, yeah, I could.

[But why would you even want to?]

... oh, right. Do you think they would?

[Then again, why wouldn't they? All of Hiccup's dragons are nothing like the ones Zuko and Aang described.]

Iiii don't know. I mean, if people are different world to world, why not dragons, too?

Yeah, Iiiii've noticed. [Honestly, this place seemed to collect the weirdest types possible.]

And to think, the first thing I thought was weird was just the weird hair colors, like blonde.

You...don't have blonde people where you're from?

Yeah. Not a one. Same with blue hair, red hair, green hair, pink hair, and so on. [Rainbow hair! Who knew.] But I'm from the South Pole.

Yeah...we don't have the colorful hair so much. But there're a lot of us with red and blonde.

South Pole, huh? I'm kind of near the North Pole where I'm from, so...yeah. Opposite side of the world, I guess. If, you know, we were from the same world.
