[When Sokka opens the journal, he does it with a very specific purpose and yeah, maybe it's New Feather season and the aftermath of some dumb experiment, but he has some news that he's been sitting on for awhile. News that only two or three people outside of the Avatar house are even aware of. So today, around lunch period at school, Sokka heads around the building, facing the playground, to make an announcement he'd been putting off for a bit. Not because he didn't want to make it, but it was hard to do it with people being all ragey with the Malnosso. Maybe a few days of New Feathers will have cooled them off?]

Hey everyone. So... this is actually a few weeks late, but uh, that experiment kind of got in the way and New Feathers showing up and... anyway. Forget all that.

If you guys happen to see Suki around town, say hi to her for me. After all, she's the future Missus Thunderaxe. [He allows that to sink in a bit.] Because, you know, we're engaged now. Just saying. Nice pretty necklace and everything. One of my best works, if I do say so myself.

[Yeah, yeah. He's feeling good about that, okay. Like, solid. Whatever that means. Anyway, he decided that tonight he is making dinner. That means he's going to the grocery and stocking up on steaks. He wants to make steak burgers, because he's heard about them (somewhere) and they sounded awesome. From Luceti he had decided he liked steak and he liked hamburgers, so a combination? Gotta be a winner. Nevermind that he's just getting regular old steaks and plans to just put those on a hamburger bun. He'll realize the bones are gonna be a problem later on.

He'll make his customary appearance at the smithy to help New Feathers with weapons. He'll also be around school during the appropriate times for that. In the evening, after his dinner fiasco, he'll be down by the river, on the southern end of town, making some modifications to see if he can't make it sea worthy. Like adding a sail. He's pretty unsatisfied with the results though. Looks like he may need to just make a new boat from scratch. Which necessitates another voice post in the evening. But only after excluding a certain pirate. No offense, Jack, but he wants his own boat.]

So... ship building. Anyone want to help make one? A big one. Not huge, just... sea worthy with a nice strong sail. And good for bringing in lots of fish, too. Any help would be good. Just materials would go a long way.

... well, I don't know anything about star rubies or moonite, but I do have some meteor rock. It's the stuff my sword's made out of. There's nothing like it in the world.

[This is the kind of thing that could really up his game. He'll never get any special powers, but enchanting his weapons... this could really make a difference. The only problem is that both his sword and boomerang mean so much to him. Replacing them is something he can't really imagine doing.]

Meteor rock? A meteorite? [While he could probably make star rubies or even orichalcum if he had enough iron to experiment, there were some ores and gems he just couldn't create through alchemy without a lezard flask as a medium.

That's definitely up there in rarity.

It's exactly the same as the one I found back in my world, anyway. I requested it a while back, but I wanted to make something special with it, you know?

[And this... well, it sounds special.]

Hmm... [He tries to remember what they used meteorite for when they would customize weapons.] Meteorite had fire, wind, and star properties, from what I remember. But I'd have to even check if your meteor rock would work the same way. For all I know, it could have very different properties from meteorite in my world.

[...And he should probably mention...] There's the chance of failure, though. It's possible the elemental property won't take, and something could always happen while you're forging the weapon that makes it unusable. [Accidents. Mistakes. Those things.]

[Okay yeah, he doesn't think his meteorite is going to have these powers, but then again, Sozin's Comet powers up firebenders and that's not even on fire!]

It's worth the risk. It's better than not doing anything with it. [Besides if they mess it up, maybe Tattoi will eat the leftovers or something.]

We can practice with something less rare than your meteor rock, if you have an extra weapon around you don't mind working on. Using gems, even the diamonds I have, can improve the strength and durability of weapons. Problem is, you'd have to break down the original weapon and reshape it to incorporate the gem.

Sure. I've got plenty of weapons laying around here. It's... something to do. But we don't have much in the way of gems or anything....

Is there other effects they could have? Like... if you had wind magic and a boomerang, would that make it go faster and farther? [He uses that principle with Kippin and it works great, but it also doesn't work outside the barrier.]

Well, the only reason I bring it up is because I've got extra gems at the moment. [Stupid experiment. ...But he really has to think about that question.]

I actually don't know what would happen. No one used boomerangs or thrown weapons, so I've never seen how they would be improved.

[Well he doesn't know where extra gems came from, but he knows better than to look an ostrich horse in the mouth.]

So, it'll be an experiment to see what happens, then? [That makes it even better. It may not be a groundbreaking discovery, but it's still trying something new and not knowing what will happen. That's cool stuff.]

[...It's really better not to ask, anyway.]

Yeah, I guess it would be. [Wind... Well, if Sokka wants to experiment with wind crests, he'll have to do some studying.] Pick out some things you don't mind accidentally ruining, then we can go from there.

Yeah, I'll get some stuff together. Stop by tomorrow or whatever and I'll show you the meteor rock too. You know, if this works, you might have other people who want stuff. It'll keep us both pretty busy.

[He twitches at the idea of being busy. It'd be a nice change of pace and a good distraction after some things...]

[He blinks as he notices the filter going up, but then realizes it would probably have been a good idea to filter all of that to begin with.]

Can we not involve Haruhi and the Brigade? I know she's your 'boss' and stuff, but it's bad enough she claimed the teleporter as a Brigade thing. I don't want her to start claiming these weapons are 'Brigade property' and start acting like she has some say in what they're used for.

[It's kinda sad that he's immediately associated with the Brigade in a negative way, but after the teleporter thing, he can't say he's surprised.]

Honestly, I don't think she'd be interested in weapons; it's not something I'd associate with the Brigade. ...But yeah, I'd rather they not get involved either. They're your weapons, dude.

Fair enough. I just wanted to be sure. [For all he knows Haruhi could declare Sokka has to do bodyguard duty or something to 'earn' the weapons or something equally ridiculous. Not that he'd listen, but one less headache, right?]

Yeah, I get it. I never did thank you for your help with the teleporter, anyway. [Or, you know, apologize since Haruhi hijacked the entire thing.]

Oh... right. Don't worry about it. You did the important stuff. Anyone could have done my part. [And anyone with special powers could have done it faster and with less effort, so...]

Maybe. Doesn't change the fact you put in the hours for it.
