[When Sokka opens the journal, he does it with a very specific purpose and yeah, maybe it's New Feather season and the aftermath of some dumb experiment, but he has some news that he's been sitting on for awhile. News that only two or three people outside of the Avatar house are even aware of. So today, around lunch period at school, Sokka heads around the building, facing the playground, to make an announcement he'd been putting off for a bit. Not because he didn't want to make it, but it was hard to do it with people being all ragey with the Malnosso. Maybe a few days of New Feathers will have cooled them off?]

Hey everyone. So... this is actually a few weeks late, but uh, that experiment kind of got in the way and New Feathers showing up and... anyway. Forget all that.

If you guys happen to see Suki around town, say hi to her for me. After all, she's the future Missus Thunderaxe. [He allows that to sink in a bit.] Because, you know, we're engaged now. Just saying. Nice pretty necklace and everything. One of my best works, if I do say so myself.

[Yeah, yeah. He's feeling good about that, okay. Like, solid. Whatever that means. Anyway, he decided that tonight he is making dinner. That means he's going to the grocery and stocking up on steaks. He wants to make steak burgers, because he's heard about them (somewhere) and they sounded awesome. From Luceti he had decided he liked steak and he liked hamburgers, so a combination? Gotta be a winner. Nevermind that he's just getting regular old steaks and plans to just put those on a hamburger bun. He'll realize the bones are gonna be a problem later on.

He'll make his customary appearance at the smithy to help New Feathers with weapons. He'll also be around school during the appropriate times for that. In the evening, after his dinner fiasco, he'll be down by the river, on the southern end of town, making some modifications to see if he can't make it sea worthy. Like adding a sail. He's pretty unsatisfied with the results though. Looks like he may need to just make a new boat from scratch. Which necessitates another voice post in the evening. But only after excluding a certain pirate. No offense, Jack, but he wants his own boat.]

So... ship building. Anyone want to help make one? A big one. Not huge, just... sea worthy with a nice strong sail. And good for bringing in lots of fish, too. Any help would be good. Just materials would go a long way.

Right, right. Fair enough. We're gonna want to build it on the ocean side anywhere. So the real problem is getting materials too big for the teleporter over there.

Build a wagon?

[Pauses as he has a horrible mental image that involves himself as the horse pulling such a thing.]

Not a bad idea. There's just... you know, mountains.

[A thought occurs to him though. There ARE animals from that farm, right? Maybe he could use them for something useful like.]

Wagons to pull it up, sleds to pull it down -- or some sort of rope system.

How did your people do things in your world?

[Not bad ideas, those. Be better if they could find a good path through it. On the other hand... Toph could do that pretty handily too.]

We made a point of living next to the ocean, so that came in handy.

Even living on islands, resources still have to be brought down form the mountains.

There wasn't much lumber in the South Pole. We imported most of it from the Earth Kingdom. A lot of our ships are made from whale bones and skin. It's good enough for fishing and traveling to the other villages. But not so much for long voyages or anything. [The war boats, however, Water Tribe hunters and warriors would go to secluded islands off of the Earth Kingdom or other empty areas to get the wood.]

I see. That does seem a lot harder to procure here than lumber would be, but I'm not about to touch Moro's forest without her permission.

[Yeah he's... a little unhappy about the idea of not being able to touch trees, period. He doesn't waste them and just picking up already knocked over trees in the woods isn't going to get him what he wants.]

Maybe just do a recycling of metal and wood, see if there are furniture items people don't need a lot of and things like that?

... you can't make a boat out of a bunch of old junk.

See if there are any trees or sections Moro wouldn't mind parting with? Otherwise it makes them prime for forest fires this summer anyway.

Yeah, I'll see what I can do.

[Ugh, working around Moro.. what a pain. Maybe if he's lucky, there might be material up in those new farmlands he can use.]

Or you could do what Blackbeard did and wait until the Malnosso kidnap her, but I'm of the personal belief that he's probably not a good role model.

... yeah, I don't think anyone could find much about him to want to model after. Unless your goal in life is winning food eating contests.

Well... there's also all the other things he does that makes him villainy, like doing actual legitimate pirate-y things. [Such a rare trait in these parts, isn't it? Pirates that act like pirates.]

Don't underestimate him. He killed the strongest man in the world, and everyone's already underestimated him once.

Don't worry. Getting involved with him is extremely low on my list of things I want to do. In fact, I'm pretty sure he didn't even make the front of the page. Or the back.

Tsk. I'm trying to think of materials other than wood that'd be sufficient.

I don't really think there's anything... practical, anyway. [Who knows where they'd get enough iron for a boat.]

I suppose it's too ridiculous to ask the Malnosso anyway.

Jack asked the Malnosso for boats more than once. [Yeah he stalks conversations. ~~It makes up for not being able to tag himself.~~] They never went for it.

Don't ask for ships, ask for wood or lumber and specify that you'd rather not hack down their lovely forest to get it.

Not a bad idea. I guess there's no harm trying. [... not that he likes the idea of depending on the Malnosso for this. Sure, he's using their tools for this, but still...]
