Sokka the 54th - [Voice/Action]

[Sokka's day will involve a few things. One of them won't include shoveling all the snow out of the way of his house. It's not that he's lazy, but when his sister can take care of that in less than a minute, why even bother? Later his day will involve working on important things at the smithy, like the metal casing for a certain teleporter. And maybe some weapons or the key-shaped variety. Or helping New Feathers find their weapons so they can go about being dangerous. He'll also do lunch in the plaza... maybe do some shopping.

But why dwell on the bad parts? Before his kidnapping, Sokka is available for running into. Also, in light of the fact the snow is coming down pretty hardcore today and is, frankly, almost a blizzard, he feels inclined to make a voice post in the middle of the day.]

You know, we had that big blizzard about the same time last year. Well, not big big. I've seen bigger. But we had a lot of people get stranded out in that stuff. Actually, I met a lot of people being stranded at the Straw Hat's place... Uh, anyway. Yeah, blizzards. Bad stuff. Better make sure you got a lot of food at home, just in case.

[Hours later, on his way home, he'll meet some delightful metal men who will proceed to knock him out and drag him off, being nice enough to leave his sword and boomerang in the snow.]

... I'm not exactly sure how you got from weapons to a type of spice.

[In other words, what the hell is pepper spray?]

Pepper spray. It's...like this totally hot spray in a can and you can, like, spray it at attackers and it burns their eyes and they run away. Good for tiny younger sisters who might not be so pumped up in the strength stat.

I'm liking the sound of this. Do you know how it's made?

[Dawn's safety is completely forgotten. Sokka is already thinking of the weaponizing potential of this spray.]

Well, I don't know the science of it but -- uh -- like, take the hottest chili pepper you can find it and make all that hotness into a liquid and put that liquid in a spray canister and, voila! Pocket-sized pain! If you get attacked, you just pull this out and aim for the eyes.

That? I can do that. Yeah. Thanks!

[He may need a gentle reminder that this is for Dawn, not himself.]

Well, if you figure it out? I'd love one in pink. Dawn'll appreciate a weapon she can accessorize with.

Huh? Oh, oh right. Yeah, a pink one. I can do that, sure.

[He won't get it confused with the dozen he'll make for himself.]

We grew up in a town built on a demon-vomiting hellmouth. There is no such thing as overprotective.

Yeah, I guess that would do that. I guess moving was out of the question?

That's the thing about mystical callings. They're kinda tough to dodge.

Our calling wasn't all that mystical. We just found some twelve year old kid frozen in an iceberg.

That sounds...I don't even know how that sounds. An iceberg?

Yeah. He froze himself in it. A hundred years ago.

[ a pause, and then one simple sound: ] Brr.

And yet he wasn't even remotely cold! Avatars, yeesh.

And he was twelve? Or, like...a hundred and twelve?

Both? Yeah, both. He still looks and acts twelve, though.

[ okay. this is actually not too odd. buffy has seen age strangeness before. granted -- usually in vampires. ]

So he was literally frozen? Like -- cryo-style?

Cryo-what? [There you go, losing him again.]

It's a sci-fi thing. People freezing themselves so that they never die -- waiting to be defrosted in the future, when medical progress has caught up to immortality. Whatever. Kinda tin-hat, if you ask me. Why hit up science when at least a few dozen spells can probably do the same?

[ besides -- buffy does not want to live forever. oh heck no. ]

Oh. We don't have the science stuff for that... or the magic. No, he pretty much got caught in a bad storm he shouldn't have been in. He was going to die before his special Avatar powers kicked in and froze him. I don't think it would've worked for anyone else.

Sounds a little serendipitous.
