Sokka the 53rd - [Action/Voice]

[Sokka is still out at the ocean, only with the Gaang and those Ferines ladies. It's a bit cold, but hell, it's the ocean and camping out in front of it is pretty awesome. Good thing he came crazy prepared for it. Except for, you know, a boat. So much for seafood. If for some reason you're in that vicinity, feel free to pester him. But as he gets a chance, he opens up the journal for catch up with people on the other side of the mountains.]

Well the ocean isn't going anywhere, I don't think. But it's not getting any bigger, so I guess Luceti won't be flooding. Good news? Now I just- [A lemur suddenly crowds the screen and Sokka has to shoo him off.] NO! Momo, the journal isn't for sitting on.

Yeesh.

Anyway! Now I just have some of my canoes over here... I wonder if that teleporter-building guy can get a new one out here or something? Or maybe if there was a railway over the mountains... or in the tunnels! Too bad there's no airships around here, that would make things easier. If Appa was still around, the trip back would be a lot easier...

So... how's things? Back in the village and stuff.

[She crosses her arms.] I don't ever want to go in one of those again. I'd prefer to walk.

What? Don't be ridiculous!

I'm not being ridiculous! Why should I trust something as weird as that thing is?

Because it worked and we're in one piece? It's safer than walking, actually.

It worked this time. Do you know what happens if it doesn't work? [Wait a second. In one piece?] --Did you even know if we would be in one piece before you put me in there?

Of course I did! I've tested it and used it plenty of times. Besides, if it doesn't work, a good designer would put in failsafes that would prevent anything bad from happening. And I'm sure something like that was designed by someone smart enough for that.

[But she still can't work the oven properly.... This seems like a silly thing to use as an example for how things can go wrong with devices and she doesn't know if she can really argue this properly with him, so she just looks sulky.] I still don't like it. And I don't trust it, either.

[he can tell. And he will logic her to death because of it.]

Right. Would you trust it if it was some kind of spell? Or maybe an animal was doing it?

I wouldn't trust anything that did that to me. E--magic doesn't work like that where I come from. And I don't even want to think of leaving my well-being up to an animal so much.

Well this was something made by a person for exactly one purpose... teleporting! Safer than walking.

Then you can use it! But I don't like them, and I'm not going to use one I don't even understand.

So when we all head back... and use the teleporter... you're going to walk all the way back to the village on your own?

[When actually confronted by the situation, she will probably give in and reluctantly use it, but, for now, she thinks otherwise.] If that's what it takes.

Make sure to take extra supplies. You know how cold it gets up in the mountains, after all.

[Rather than as helpful advice, she interprets it as a challenge to her decision and she bristles, figuratively speaking.] It's only a day. I'll be fine. We're already crossing most of the mountains as it is. [Well, she's guessing on all counts. She's not really very good at map reading at all, but she thought someone had mentioned the teleporter saving a day's travel.]

Yeah, just make sure you leave the hot springs at the crack of dawn. With how short the days are, you don't want to end up in the woods at night. [BEARS.]

Fine! I will!

Okay then!

[Redirecting his attention to his journal. We'll see who wins this little game. He'll hold out until the last... but then wait for her to stomp off for an hour and then end up following her to make sure she gets home safely.]

[When he returns to the journal, she will stomp off back oceanward. And, well, she might have given in and gone in the teleporter, but now that she...pretty much forced an argument about it, she can't back down now.

So, if nothing more is said about it before dawn at the hot springs, she is going to try to sneak off with the map she had gotten from Nami a while back and learn that it's not exactly a simple matter to follow a map through the wilderness when she doesn't have any experience at doing so.]

[Yeeeah, after making out like he left, Sokka does return. It's not difficult to track Fenimore, hunter that he is, so while she's wandering about, he'll be following her from a distance, enough that he won't be spotted. He's perfectly willing to let her find her way back all on her own, but if she gets lost or in trouble... well, at least she won't be alone.]

[She manages to not get entirely lost, as she is usually moving forward, but it does take more than three times as long to get about a third of the way from the hot springs to the foot of the mountains. She's also nearly a quarter kilometer off from the most direct route and has completely failed to locate the river, which would at least give her something to follow.

At that point, she suddenly stops to sit on a rock and put her chin on her hands. Her opinion of this trip is steadily changing from "maybe this wasn't such a good idea" to "this was a bad idea."]

[Once it's clear she's hopelessly lost and uh, not going anywhere, Sokka leans up against a tree behind her, filches an apple from his bag, and starts eating it. He'll let her notice him on her own.]

[She doesn't notice right away, not hearing his approach, but, with a sigh, she gets to her feet. About to continue moving forward, she takes a look back towards the hot springs as she considers backtracking. But she doesn't really get a chance to mull it over when she notices Sokka and jerks back in surprise.]

Sokka? [Then, with an accusing tone, though she's not quite sure what she would be accusing him of:] What are you doing here?

[He pushes himself off the tree he's leaning on and gives a halfhearted shrug.]

Did you really think we'd let you just run off like that? Someone could get hurt out here going off on their own.

Well--! [Well, to be honest, she didn't really think that, which is why she had tried to sneak off without telling the others. So, out of retorts, her tone turns to what might be described as "a little sulky." This is not a pout.] You seemed fine with it the other day.
