When do we start getting some real snow around here? I've seen a little here and there, but the stuff practically melts by the time it hits the ground! My real birthday is in November, but not, you know, the one it is in Luceti. I won't actually be, you know, seventeen this month. That's not the point. But back home, we have some pretty good blizzards this time of year. I mean, sure, there's snow all the time back home, but November snow is... special? Kind of? I'm just hoping we don't have to wait until December for the real stuff. Sunshine and flowers are great and all, but it's getting kind of old by now, you know?

[Having let everyone know his feelings about the weather, as well as work related updates, Sokka settles into the smithy to get some work done and meet anyone coming to pick up their orders. Afterward, he decides to have some fun in the Battle Dome. He can either be stopped on his way there from the smithy, or someone can meet up with him there.]

If it's cold enough the snow is nearly frozen and it's thick enough and high enough? Yeah, it would still be useful. It also helps to have some waterbenders on the other side to quickly patch up any holes.

So how does this waterbending work, anyway?

Well, first you have to be born a bender. That's the most important step of all. Very easy mistake to make, not being born with bending powers. So, assuming you got that first step right, you get to control it by waving your hands and feet around and controlling the water that way. Sure, it's a little more complicated than that... but yeah, that more or less sums it up.

That must get pretty awkward during battles if you have to dance all the time to use your ma-- um, your waterbending. Couldn't some enemy just distract you or knock you over or something?

Don't think of it as dancing... or magic. It's more like... using water as a weapon. You have to learn how to handle it, just like a sword.

Like a sword... it sounds complicated, but I think I kind of understand how it works now.

But anyway, in a snowball fight, magic and bending aren't fair. So it's not important.

Yeah, and stuffing snow down the back of someone's coat isn't fair either.

Not really. Technically speaking, in a fair fight, the victor does have the right to do what they want with the person they defeat.

Hey, your loss. Personally, I tend to settle for just making the losers make me some hot tea, hot cocoa, or something like that.

You don't stuff snow down their clothes? Then... maybe I'll think about it, as long as you promise not to do anything like that.
