Sokka the 30th - [Written]

[This has been brewing in his mind since yesterday. He decides to finally act on it. Katara, Toph, Zuko, Aang... they all had masters to learn their styles from. Sokka? He had fifteen years of pretending he was a warrior and a mere three days under a real master. Well, this was Luceti. He had nothing but time here. So after he's home for the night and dinner is done, he puts together the following filter]

[Filtered 100% against the Straw Hats, his friends (and anyone from his world), and your usual villainous suspects.]

I'm looking for someone with experience willing to teach fighting. I don't have any special powers, so if your style involves lifting ridiculously huge swords or shooting fire from your hands, forget it. I want someone who can fight for real. I'd prefer fighting with my own sword, but I'll try other styles. I can't offer much in return... but I can try to work out something in exchange.

((Sounds like a plan. Derek'll probably run him the same way people get run in the army ranger training (minus the shouting and stuff), so Sokka will get both Aikido as well as that training mixed in together. I have a link to the Ranger homepage (and their training regime) on Derek's link list, if you want to check it out. He's pretty patient and quiet, too, if that'll help you figure out how Sokka would deal with him.))

[And thus Sokka will be ready bright and early, showing up at the barracks at 3:55 AM. He has his Water Tribe armor on and is ready to get in there. Or at least he would be if he wasn't half awake at the time. He didn't even have time for more than an apple before rushing out the door.]

[Derek is already there, in jeans, combat boots and a t-shirt and looking bright and aware. He studies the armor as Sokka approaches, giving an appreciative nod.]

Ready to go?

[He fails to stifle a yawn in response. He looks Derek over. The contrast between his last master is astounding. So very, very casual.]

Of course, I'm ready. [He puts his fist against his open palm in front of him and makes a slight bow.]

[Derek makes no comment on the yawn; just smiles at the comment. He will, however, return the bow with a respectful one of his own before straightening up.]

Try and keep up, then.

[And with that, Derek is off and running, disappearing into the trees a lot faster than you might expect someone his age to go.]

But- [Well shit. He's off. Mentally cursing his choice in masters, Sokka will take off after him. Old guy is fast. He'll do his best to keep up. Fortunately having to keep up with benders of various sizes means a lot of running on his part.]

[Derek keeps running, avoiding the paths that have naturally sprung up from constant instinctive use by the residents, and instead leads Sokka on a sort of obstacle course that takes them over hills, rock, bramble thickets, low hanging tree branches, and thick grass.

He doesn't slow down for any of it, but eventually leads them back to the lake, for another half mile dead run across the sand and wet soil before he stops where the mouth of the river feeds into the lake.]

[Sokka is able to keep up pace, but for the most part doesn't really catch up with Derek. Dodging the obstacles is a bit difficult at first, but as he becomes more alert, it doesn't become as much as an issue. Despite that, he's fairly exhausted by the time they come to a stop.]

[Derek rewards that with a slight chuckle. He stretches his arms and legs out while he studies Sokka again.]
