[After some more healing sessions, Sokka is almost back to feeling one hundred percent again. Which means he's going back to the smithy today, even if he can't do his usual share of the work, he can at least direct New Feathers with what they need. Besides, after seeing Zuko as a invalid for a few weeks, the last thing Sokka wants to do is spend too much time at home healing, even if it means using a staff to balance on in spite of that injured leg. One of the first things he'll be doing though is looking for Winry. If he can't find her at the smithy or clinic, he'll be making a trip to her house.

Later in the day he opens up his journal to make a voice message. He briefly considers making it filtered, but he's not going to talk about anything considered confidential anyway. Besides, he's feeling to tired to draw up a complicated anti-villain filter now that he has to change his usual pattern to include Azula.]

Yup. It's a brilliant plan. [Grin.] Now how are we going to do it without Hawky?

I'm sure we can figure out something. It worked for those notes on Valentine's.

Mmhmm. [Katara shakes her head and starts to get ready to go. She honestly doesn't want to hang around the smithy that much anymore - she'd been having a pretty good days so far. Why spoil it?]

[Oh, but he has ONE more thing to say!]

Katara? I wouldn't get mixed up with Raphael again.

[Katara tilts her head. She hadn't talked to him about this, mostly because she had a feeling he'd get as angry as he had been. That meant Raphael must have, and who knew what that jerk had told him? Sigh. She stays put.]

What happened?

He told me what happened. And not too subtly threatened to 'react' if you did something again. I tried to set things straight, but he's not very good at listening.

[OK, now she's annoyed.] Yeah, I noticed. What exactly did he tell you?

... he was pretty vague. Something about yelling at him for using the blowtorch.

...yelling at him for using the blowtorch. That's it?

[And he thinks you're crazy and need a leash, but he's not going into that.]

More or less.

[...OK, fine. She was doing Raphael a favor by keeping this to herself, but if he's going to be saying stuff like that to her brother? She doesn't care anymore. She's not even going to tell him not to get mad.]

That's not what exactly happened. [Sigh.] I came in, and he was throwing fire around, completely out of control. We talked for a little bit, and I saved him from a spider. There was another one behind him, and he killed it with a wrench. Then I told him just to use that next time, that fire was dangerous. And he said, yeah, but with fire you can hear them scream.

[Well technically spiders don't scream, but...]

... that sounds like him, alright.

[She is temporarily derailed from her story-time.] Then why would you let someone like that work with you?!

I already told him, if it happens again, he won't be.

Good. I don't think he's actually evil, but someone that much of a jerk is dangerous all the same.

[Pause.] So I explained to him - that nothing should be forced to die like that, that fire has hurt a lot of people, that it hurt me - and he said he didn't care. And he started burning things again.

So I froze his hand to the blowtorch. I made him stop. That's it.

[He considers all of that. Raphael didn't seem to like 'magic', even less so than Sokka. Even so. Her using bending on him explains the attitude.]

Well. He ruined my couch with that blowtorch too. [Relevant, right?]

[...and she feels cold somehow, telling him this. He's not reacting at all like she thought he would. It feels like he's blaming her, when she thought he'd understand that just taking out his hand? Was a huge amount of self-control.]

...He would have ruined a lot more than that.

[She stands.] I already told him that we should just avoid each other. I even apologized for misunderstanding him. I'm not doing more than that.

[And she's going to start walking away if he doesn't stop her.]

[When she gets up, he stands too and before she can get too much distance where he'll have to hobble after her, he puts a hand on her shoulder.]

Hey. I'm sorry. I'm just glad you didn't freeze him solid. He would have deserved it.

[Oh no, the dreaded shoulder-touch. The closest thing an immediate 'calm down.' She stops walking and glances at him over her shoulder to share the hard truth she doesn't really want to accept.]

Yeah, he would have. But... we have to live here.

[Sokka has to use them sparingly, or they might lose their effect some day.]

Yeah. We do. But we don't have to invite him over for dinner or anything.

...I'll probably be avoiding the smithy for a while. [And the humor leaves her face. In her opinion, Raphael is a Class-A Jerk.] You be careful around him. He doesn't listen.

[She shakes her head slightly.] And I don't want to be around him.

I understand. Really. [He pulls his hand away now.]

Right. Well. You have fun with the New Feathers.

[He grimaces.]

Yeah, I'll try. Seeya tonight.
