[After a month of planning and a week of top secret work, Sokka has finished the final touches on the prototype canoe for the fleet that has yet to be built. And by finished, he of course made use of Usopp constantly. But what are across-town neighbors for anyway? So after getting his pride and joy finished, including a nice coat of paint (it's blue!) with the Water Tribe Emblem on both sides and in what is most likely a suicidal move, the Straw Hat flag mounted on the back.

An eager Sokka has already managed to pull it all the way past House #4 (with wheels obviously!) so he can test if its seaworthy (well, riverworthy) as he rides it down to the river all the way back towards his home next to the barracks. Even though he isn't planning on getting to it, he's brought along his fishing pole and some bait, just in case he gets swept down to the lake and has to survive on his own fishing and cooking skills for weeks on end while waiting for a rescue that might not ever come. So. Just in case. People may of course notice him sailing downstream and possibly try to drop things on him as he goes under the bridges.

Before he'll go though, he'll 'accidentally' leave his journal open for an 'accidental' voice post.]

This is Sokka. Casting off into the big, er, small blue... maybe kind of greenish brownish river in my vessel, The Insert Name Here. Wish me luck.

[Okay, he's losing Vash now. So he'll paddle off onto the bank.]

[Walks over, but stares at the boat a little nervously.] Just... hop in? [Carefully works on getting in.]

Yeah, sure. [Sokka will be carefully making sure to counterbalance as Vash gets in.]

[Sits down] Huh, this is strange.

[He hands an oar over to Vash.] You'll get used to it.

[Takes it and stares at it a moment trying to remember how he saw you use it. He'll stick it in the water and... pull too hard too close to the surface, splashing water all over.]

Wait! No! Not like that! Slower! Gentler! Like this!

[A perfect stroke of the oar. Sokka is just so damn cool.]

[Vash watches carefully then tries again. This time he dips the oar a little too deep, but he's getting closer.]

That's better. But more like this. [Niiiice and easy, man.]

[Watches again and gets a little closer. Vash picks things up quickly, but he's still no expert. More like just under a beginner. Still looks pretty proud of himself.]

Seems like you're getting it. What do you think?

I never realized water could be so hard to push through.

Well, for people like us, it can be. Of course Waterbenders can make the boat move a lot faster.

On the other hand, all we need to do is strap a steam engine on here and we'd have a boat that could really move.

So... it would kinda be like a sand-steamer... but on water.

[Peers at your fishing gear.] What's that for?

Sand-steamer...?

Oh, that's a fishing pole. For catching fish.

Oh. So you don't need it for the boat.

Nope. It's just in case of emergencies.

What kind of emergencies?

Like for instance, if we got swept downriver and were forced to rely on that fishing pole as our only means of food!

Oh, not a bad idea, but I don't think we have to worry about that too much in Luceti.

You never know. We could get swept downriver and be stranded at the lake for months.

Couldn't we swim to shore?

Maybe the lake is full of piranha eels!
