[After a month of planning and a week of top secret work, Sokka has finished the final touches on the prototype canoe for the fleet that has yet to be built. And by finished, he of course made use of Usopp constantly. But what are across-town neighbors for anyway? So after getting his pride and joy finished, including a nice coat of paint (it's blue!) with the Water Tribe Emblem on both sides and in what is most likely a suicidal move, the Straw Hat flag mounted on the back.

An eager Sokka has already managed to pull it all the way past House #4 (with wheels obviously!) so he can test if its seaworthy (well, riverworthy) as he rides it down to the river all the way back towards his home next to the barracks. Even though he isn't planning on getting to it, he's brought along his fishing pole and some bait, just in case he gets swept down to the lake and has to survive on his own fishing and cooking skills for weeks on end while waiting for a rescue that might not ever come. So. Just in case. People may of course notice him sailing downstream and possibly try to drop things on him as he goes under the bridges.

What about you guys? Where did you get your ship?

It was built for us at an island we visited. Where we met Usopp, actually. His village was under threat by a bunch of the ...more traditional pirates, I'd guess you'd say. We drove them off.

So I guess you could say the ship was a thank you present. Well ...our first ship, anyway. The second one was built at an official shipyard and was a lot bigger, but I kind of miss the first one.

Wow. We chased off Fire Nation soldiers from all kinds of villages and we never got a thank you present like that.

Guess we were just lucky.

Well we did get to steal an actual airship after I busted Suki and my dad out of prison. I guess that's almost as good. If not better.

Oh, you guys have airships too, huh?

...what are they like?

They're a pretty recent invention. You could say I was sort of the inspiration for making the prototype workable. [With an airflap. The genius dude can invent tanks, but an airflap eludes him. Anyway.]

It's not quite like riding on Appa, but at least airships can't fall asleep in mid flight. But the airships were big, like a regular ship, and could crew a lot of people. Unfortunately they were used primarily by the Fire Nation, so... [Add that to the list of Sokka's blunders.]

[...hrm. She can get the inference from that. Nami will sidestep that subject entirely and focus on the other point of interest.]

Who was Appa?

Appa was Aang's sky bison. [If this was Katara, she'd be TEARBENDING at the mention of Aang you jerk.] He was this big furry creature with six legs, weighed a couple of tons, and despite it making no sense whatsoever, could fly with airbending.

Not surprising. Guess we all just come from strange places. I mean, we've got squid at home that can be inflated and used as giant air balloons.
