[The whole Gaang is back together. So naturally it's good times all over again. Except Toph is still on bed rest and Zuko is still in very bad shape. And at the center of it is Katara, who despite his usual thickness for these kind of matters, even Sokka can't help noticing it. And so after some thought and consideration, some soul searching, lots of food, and a very enlightened walk where after kicking a rock, it bounced off a tree and caused him to fall off the bridge into the river, he decided it was time for Sokka to step up. That was yesterday.

So today, starting from this morning, Sokka has decided to play Team Dad for Team Avatar. Which includes keeping Toph from going bored out of her skull, Zuko from killing himself trying to move, Aang from doing something stupid like trying to ride a singing lion, and of course ensuring that Katara actually eats, sleeps, and relaxes. This means Sokka won't be going into the smithy today or anywhere else for that matter. It also means Sokka will be preparing the meals as well, which will be edible, if not exceptional. He'll even clean up the house! And ~~ruin~~ do the laundry!]

I have important stuff back home to deal with. You guys take care of the smithy. And uh, you guys probably should meet each other too. I guess that would be helpful. Ed? Winry is the blond, quiet girl working on the cool gadgets. Winry? Edward is the big guy with the huge sword. Have fun!

Since Katara is going to be busy today, do you think you could come over sometime today and check up on Zuko?

[The little reindeer doesn't exactly clue in to Zuko's confusion, but he knows a severe case when he sees one. Already he can pick up the scent of burnt flesh and blood. He looks up at the firebender very seriously and takes out his medical kit.]

My name is Chopper. I'm a doctor, so please cooperate with me. [He pulls a stethoscope and some antiseptic from the kit.] What caused these injuries?

[Sokka still keeps off to the side, but he stays in the room. Zuko isn't exactly the trustworthy type.]

Zuko, Chopper is from Sanji's crew. [Sokka doesn't know if Zuko has met the other Strawhats, but he should at least know the guy who fed them for a few months. He then turns to Chopper.] He was captured and tortured by Aku. He was had a battle with Yuber. ... he was hit by lightning several times.

Hi. [Zuko remembers the guy who fed them. He hasn't met most of the other Strawhats though.]

Mostly caused by lightning and swords.

[Aku and Yuber? Chopper is extremely impressed that Zuko made it out at all. He climbs up onto the bed and sets the stethoscope in his ears; possible delayed arrhythmia as a result from the lightning concerns him first and foremost. The smell of fever and infection is heavy on his patient as he closes in and spots the burn on Zuko's shoulder. He feels a stab of pity before turning to look at Sokka.]

Can you help him remove his shirt?

[Wait, he has to help strip Zuko down? Awww man, he didn't sign up for this! Well, that's what friends are for. So he'll come alongside the other side of the bed.] Zuko, this is going to hurt me a lot worse than you. Well... probably not. But I'll try to make it so it doesn't. [And he'll do his best to carefully remove the shirt without aggravating any of his injuries, numerous as they are.]

[Luckily for Sokka, as Zuko has been having regular healing sessions with Katara, his shirt is actually fairly easy to get off without aggravating things too much.] Thanks Sokka. [Zuko's voice is quiet and he's not meeting your eyes Sokka. He does appreciate the help. The burn to his shoulder is still very nasty, and there are a fair few small cuts (and a few deeper ones) along with some smaller burns that Chopper can now see.]

[And sees them he does. Chopper pauses heavily, his eyes flicking over the injuries as he measures Zuko's heart rate. After a few moments he moves around to reach his patient's back, gently pressing the stethoscope against unmarred skin.]

Inhale and exhale. [To Sokka:] Have these wounds been dressed at all since he got them?

[Sokka nods to Zuko and turns to Chopper.] Katara has healing sessions with him everyday.

Normally at least twice. They feel a lot better then they did a few days ago. [When he was busy getting them filled with dust and other stuff that made them get nicely infected.]

[Chopper takes some time to process. Healing magic is all good and well, but it doesn't seem to be doing very much for the infection. He fiddles with the stethoscope before removing it from his ears.] Sokka, can you get some towels and soak them in warm salt water?

[The reindeer pulls out a bottle from his bag, unscrews the lid, and dumps a pill into his hoof. He hands it to Zuko and sets the bottle down on the nightstand.] Take one of these every seven hours - if you run out before the infection subsides, call me and I'll make more.

[So he gets to be Nurse Sokka? ... he can deal with that. He does that with Katara often enough.

He'll be in the kitchen trying to figure out where Katara keeps the salt. Dammit.]

[Nurse Sokka it is. Zuko would make comment about it except her really doesn't have the energy. Zuko will take the pill from Chopper and look at it carefully before taking it.] What is it for?

[Get the damn salt, Nurse Sokka.]

[For now Chopper fetches some salve to put on those burns.] Herbal antibiotics. They should help to kill the infection, as long as you take them regularly. The warm saline compress Sokka is making will be applied to your wounds directly.

We're attacking the infection inside and out.

[Sokka is nearing the point of asking Katara on the journals where the salt is... but finally locates it. So after he creates a bucket of salt water, he drenches some towels in them and returns with the whole bucket. After all, Chopper didn't specify if they should be completely soaked... or just damp.]

Will this work?

[Zuko thinks he's following what Chopper is saying. This bit that really makes sense is that it's going to help make him get better sooner. He feels kind of bad that he's stuck in bed having other people look after him.]

Okay... Sokka is a whole bucket really needed?

It's fine. [To answer both questions. He motions for Zuko to lie back down, then reaches for a towel and squeezes the excess water back into the bucket. Nurse is free to help him apply them to the affected areas.]

He'll need these compresses at least once a day. Stop if his skin starts getting irritated, and be sure to wash them after they're done.

[His nose twitches in thought. He looks hesitant to give his next opinion.] I...don't know a lot about healing magic, but maybe you should stay away from trying to heal the infected areas for now. Infection is caused by bacteria, which are alive - if they're affected by healing magic, it might reverse everything we're doing to kill them.

[Sokka will do as he's told and apply the towels as needed.]

Maybe I should we writing this all down... Do you think the same applies to bending? Anyway, Katara has been focusing her efforts on the uh, internal stuff caused by Aku's lightning.

[And that stings so much Chopper. Zuko is going to hiss in pain as the towels get pushed onto the infected cuts.]
