Sokka the 18th - [Action]

[So after Katara has had her counseling session (with Sokka naturally following her around and being even more Batman super spy than usual), the two will be heading deep in the forest to search for Zuko. They'll try to raise him a few times on the journals, but are otherwise prepared to stay a few nights in the forest, even packing enough gear to spend a few nights camping if need be. After the loss of Toph, Sokka has no intention of seeing their missing comrade suffering a similar fate.

If for some reason your character is out deep in the forest, they may run across the two Watersibs combing their way through the forest. They may not exactly be the most conversational, but they'll probably talk to you if there's good reason to. Feel free to run into them while they're either hiking or if it's late in the day, setting up camp for the night.

Note: Either Katara or Sokka (or both) will answer your character.]

I've never seen anything like that before. [Her brow furrows. It's a good thing she had a chance to see it now. She'd never expect anything like that to come from something that small.]

How thick would something have to be to stop it?

It depends on the gun really. This one wouldn't be able to fire through a thick tree, but it could travel in pretty far. Other guns can fire faster and are stronger so the bullets travel farther.

[Katara follows a bit behind Sokka.] Something like that. We're looking for somebody.

[Nash. That name is familiar...] I don't think I've met you in person before.

It would depend on the range too. [And because he knows what Katara is getting at here.] I wouldn't count on ice blocking it. It's better to just find cover.

Oh, right. Nash, this is my sister. Katara, this is an old man. [Somehow Nash is lightening Sokka's mood. Damn you, old man.]

But I bet there would be some way to divert the bullet if it was caught in ice -- turn it to water and push it aside... or maybe block up how they exit?

The honor's all mine. [Nash does a little bow, a bit mocking but not in an insulting way.] We've spoken before. Or, not technically spoken, but written, which I find much more civilized, anyway.

[And then he waits to hear more about this missing person.]

[Katara will notice her brother's disenchantment with the conversation, but she thinks it's important to learn about the skills that other people have, even if they need to move along pretty soon.]

Well, not sure what you could do with a bullet after it's been fired, but - [Takes a bullet out of his pocket and holds it up.] They're filled with gunpowder - get it wet before it's fired and it won't work anymore.

[Nah, don't mind Sokka. There's this really interesting tree over here.]

[Sokka nods.] The trick is to deal with the gun, not the bullet once it's been fired. Even if you somehow divert a bullet, a second one can be fired in less than a second.

[...a bow? Seriously? Katara does not know what to make of this.] Yes, I remember you. I just don't think the journals count for real 'meetings.' It's nice to see people face to face.

[Katara glances at Sokka before speaking.] His name is Zuko. He's a.. friend of ours from back home.

[Even if saying that is really really weird.]

[There's something of a frown at the bow, but Sokka doesn't mind. At least he's not wiggling in true Sanji fashion.]

He ran off a week ago. Given what just happened we... [He trails off a bit there.] He should be back at home with us.

Magic comes from the spirits' interaction with the natural world. I draw on that with the aid of a medium, either a tome or a staff. I suppose that means it'd be an extension of myself, in a way.

Hmm... It would be hard to get anything wet once it's in the case, but if I froze the gun over and made it so he couldn't pull the trigger...

We're looking for Zuko. We think he might be out here.

That might be the best as some guns can fire multiple round instantly.

The element of surprise is the best thing you can have. Still... it's dangerous.

Yeah, the angry prince. Scar over his eye. [Katara makes the motion to show him over which eye and how devastating it is.

...and here comes an embarrassing part. She takes a breath and squares her shoulders.] The day the last experiment ended, Zuko and I had fallen asleep together outside. When we came to our senses, I... [She hasn't even told Sokka this. She had been so ashamed and sick that she'd stumbled away and was physically ill.] tried to get away without waking him, but I don't think it worked.

When I came back later that night, the area where we had been was torched. We haven't seen him since. He might not be in the forest, but he's not in the village. We have to start somewhere.

Fell... asleep... together? [Sokka is too busy processing this to contribute. Why are they trying to find Zuko again?

And you're worried something might have gotten him. But it sounds like your friend doesn't much want to be found, does he?
