Yuri is someone that's always been around and is a familiar face in Luceti. They tend to have differing ideas on what Brave Vesperia should be doing. The two of them can go on for hours snarking about one another, unless one of them (or someone else) intervenes. It might not be accurate to call them 'friends', but Sokka likes Yuri enough to tease him.
Sokka remembers that Yuri and Judith used to have a son together. What happened to Yuri has served as a warning for how to handle relationships in Luceti.
Although Karol was leader of Brave Vesperia when Sokka joined, Yuri is the one in charge now. Sokka originally joined when he requested signs be put up for the sake of one of his old friends.
