Sokka the 49th - [Action/Written]

[It was another day at the Avatar house. Well, minus the lack of Katara. Which meant a quiet breakfast. Too quiet. Suki and Zuko were quiet on their own. But Aang? That wasn't like him. So after cleaning up, he decides to go check on the weird bald monk. Only when he opens up Aang's room... it's an all too familiar sight. It's been emptied out completely. All that's left is the bed, furniture... and Roku's air glider. Again. They sent Aang back again. Barely even two months and he was already gone. It wasn't enough they had to take Katara, but now this...

He lingers for a few seconds, then grabs the staff and storms out of the house. That is, unless, Zuko or Suki happen to stop him first. Either way, he'll end up in the forest later. He and Momo are trying to find Appa, who they can't find either. What they do find, however, is the unusual carcass of a deer. It doesn't take long for Sokka to note that the wounds that killed it don't match any animal in his world or this one. With Momo acting skittish, he gives themselves some distance before opening his journal and writing a message.]

What kind of predator kills its prey with punctures to the skull?

((ooc: Sokka can be found leaving his house or in the woods at any point, the latter scenario will be with Momo on hand. Sokka is still dressed up like this. No wig, but his hair is down, since it refuses to stay in a hairtie.))

Hn. Whatever did it gets around fast then. Either that or there's more than one.

[If he hadn't been heading in a completely different direction from where Sokka is, he might've guessed it to someone from the village. And while that's a possibility, especially if it was more than one person working together, it seems less likely. Not to mention pointless.]

Not for a very long while.

... All right. [Not that she's comfortable about this.] Please let me know of your findings, then. [At least it would give him a reason to check back in.]

Certainly not. [He's not going to object at all if Sokka wants to do it himself, however.]

Not anything with a puncture to the skull. I passed a rabbit with nothing but a broken leg a couple hours back before I came across a dead fox. [Which is more suited to being a predator itself.]

[Giles actually has brought a knife. He pulls it out of the sheathe on his belt, sits down next to the deer, and examines the puncture marks closely] Hm...

[Then, after a couple of minutes, he goes to work with the knife, trying to get the skin away and get a better look at whatever further internal damage might have been done]

[Nope. There's nothing there that he expected to find in the way of damage. Something just punctured the skull and killed the deer. He looks anyway, bothered far less by the blood and more by the circumstances, silent for several minutes, then...]

Well, this is very strange.

Absolutely nothing out of the ordinary. Apart from the puncture marks to the skull, of course. The brain is still intact, the spinal fluids all there, it doesn't even look as though whatever killed it was especially interested in eating it.

Did anyone give you any leads over the journals?

Do that many coincidences usually happen around here?

No, they didn't. I've seen this kind of behavior in my world before. But of course, then I could predict the conditions.

But I guess there's nothing to do but wait.

Who is Appa?

I was merely inquiring about the carcass, Sokka...what happened to your arm?

I'll come out to where you are to get a better look. Can you describe the area?

With no such previous encounter of a kill like this one can figure this is a fairly new threat - and a dangerous one at that. If it does not kill for hunger that makes it all the more a problem. Could you tell me your location so that I could inspect the carcass?

Was voiced. Now it's written. |D

[But only because Sokka strangely doesn't seem to want to talk.]

I didn't think we had animals that could do that, here. But the birds all took off, too - be careful out there, Sokka. [Because that sounds like maybe the Malnosso shifted in some giant predator or monster or something.]
