It's not until the early afternoon that she opens her journal. She's spent the morning first breaking the news to Sophie and then futilely trying to make it hurt less. It hasn't been a rousing success, but, by now, Sophie has exhausted herself into sleep, nearly an hour later than her normal post-midday nap. Only then can Fenimore retreat into her room to flip through her journal.
She looks pretty haggard and she's lightly holding a cold cloth against a bruise on her cheek -- the result of trying to calm the tantrum of a child iron eren -- but she smiles a little, tiredly, that he had asked after her first.]
I'm.... [The smile, which had briefly lingered as she started to reply, fades. It's almost second nature for her to avoid talking about any real problems she has. But this is Sokka.]
